8M would put it on par with T:SCC. 7.5M would put it on par with PB. However, if it had under 10M last night, I doubt it will be able to hold up to either of those levels in the Monday timeslot.

how long do you think it will be before Fox decides what to keep and what to let go? still holding out hope for SCC....

Got to think they keep SCC.. It's got good buzz and would pair well with 24...

And would go right on dropping, in any timeslot they could put it in.

But yeah, if the only other choice is NA. Big Grin

I found it very weird that in two hours on ABC I saw almost nothing in the way of promotion for Here Come the Newlyweds, despite quite a lot of promos for EM:HE and Oprah. I actually considered its over-4.0 opening on Sunday to be more of a "winner" than Oprah since the Big Give has, you know, Oprah and all the hype that goes with her

I agree, I also found Newlyweds success a bigger winner than Oprah's. My guess on why they chose to focus on EM:HE and Oprah is simple: those two shows need to do well for Newlyweds to do well. Its strong ratings, though significant, was still mostly due to the strong lead-in. Since it was a good show, it held the ratings pretty well, but is not yet strong enough to pull high ratings just on its own. So Newlyweds benefits from EM:HE and Oprah's success.

FOX upfronts are May 15th, so the lucky shows will know by May 1st that they are renewed for Fall and the other shows will have to wait until around May 14th to hear if they are renewed.

Eli Stone is obviously still in big trouble, but I thought that last night's ep was VERY good, IMO the first episode since the pilot that stopped sitting on their increasingly stale premise and indicated some real forward movement for the series. Unfortunately, as with so many shows, they probably took too long to "find their groove" or whatever.

Partly agree, partly disagree. I agree that last night was good, and that it moved the story forward even more. But I disagree that it was the first good one since the premiere. I think only the 2nd episode was sub-par, and the reason for the show's ratings drop is that they had their "bad" episode so early in the run. I think the show found its groove on episode 3, and has been chugging along ever since.

I'm calling for a nationwide ban on shows whose name is the same as the lead character's name. It worked with house and that should be the end of it. I tuned into New Amsterdam and as soon as I found out his name was 'John Amsterdam' I knew the show was weak. Add to it that he's another of these 'on the edge' and 'don't play by the rules' cops whose potential partners have initial misgivings but then back him up when he becomes a liability... I started counting how many shows and movies have done this same, tired routine and I got so busy totalling them up that I missed the rest of the episodes. And I'm better of for that

If 5.4 in demo is just "mediocre" (especially when the leadin is only a 1.9) then that makes every show on CBS a flop of epic proportions, doesn't it?

Agreed, but I would think in those commercials for both EM and Oprah that they would at least mention Newlyweds. It almost reminds me of how they phased Six Degrees out of their "Come On Over" Thursday ads last winter, except Newlyweds certainly hasn't earned that treatment yet.

Why exactly do you think last week's episode was horrible? It's definetely in my top 5 Lost episodes.

Hater. Cool

Honestly, did anyone here even WATCH NA last night?

Yes, I did. I was bored to tears. Which was actually an improvement from being "bored to death" from the pilot. I liked that they made the Omar character John's son. I thought that was actually very interesting. But the rest of the show is a crap heap of "seen it all before". Plus, the crime stories are not that interesting. For the show to have had any chance of succeeding, they'd need to match the importances/relevance of the "search for the one" story / flashback stories from John's long life.

Oh, it's too early to be comparing this to Six Degrees -- almost quite the opposite. My guess is that ABC is also surprised at how well it did last week, and don't quite know what to do with those results. They're probably waiting for another week to see if they hold up, so they can legitimately start calling it a hit.

I said this about the NA pilot yesterday and several people were telling me "How dare you decide that you are bored with a show after only 5 minutes." It looks like I decided correctly, and have saved myself another 115 minutes to do something else. I DVDed last night's episode just in case, but based on what I'm hearing, I don't think I'll bother to watch.

And that's really saying something, from someone who watched the entire run of Veronica Mars. Big Grin

He can actually make babies? That's another departure from the usual "Immortal hero yearns for mortality" storyline.

And again, this is from somebody who watched every episode of Veronica Mars. Sorry, go on. Wink

I think the whole idea of a hero whose quest is merely to die (which btw, was the quest of the villian in that shortlived Shaun Cassidy series "Roar") is misguided. I mean, for one thing, he's been around less than four centuries. And it's been a very interesting four centuries. What's the big rush? He wants to kick it before global warming really kicks in?

For another, it's just not a very exciting quest. It basically consists of waiting around, and looking at subway surveillance videos (one of the few moments from the pilot I saw). I mean, he's turned immortality into the Ultimate Dead-End Job.

I guess I should identify with that, but I'm enjoying life just fine. It sucks having people you care about die on you all the time, while you just keep on existing, I'm sure. But hey, any dog lover knows how that feels. Frowner
