ABC - cancel Hopkins now. The numbers were even more pathetic than Swingtown.
It's always smart to base a decision on Holiday viewing numbers.

Surprised Fear Itself won the night. It would be Hopkins if they give it a decent lead in. It's a shame they are letting a good show get ruined by two repeats as lead ins.
Too bad for Swingtown - it's a great show, and no one's watching. My suggestion for CBS - keep it around, see where else it could do well. Maybe if Flashpoint is a hit on Fridays, switch it to Thursdays and Swingtown to Fridays. IT seems like it would do better sandwiched inbetween Ghost Whisperer and Numbers.
The finale is scheduled for 8/28 per The Futon Critic. Swingtown was signed for 13 episodes which would take it to 8/28. Now i'm not 100% sure it will make it to 8/28 but that's when it's scheduled to end the season 1 run. I don't believe CBS will cancel it and I think they will just let it run it's course but obviously ratings can't go much lower. Even in summer with lower advertising dollars they need some stronger ratings to promote the fall shows at least. Flashpoint will probably stay on Friday nights because it is a 13 episode first season as well. This would take it to the beginning of October when the CBS fall shows on Friday night are scheduled to start.

You can't really judge off of a holiday night. The only reason numbers are so low is because of 4th of July.
ITA!!!
However, I don't see CBS picking up the show for another season unless the numbers rebound dramatically over the next few weeks. There are only four episodes remaining (the finale is scheduled for July 31st), and I'm thinking it would have to finish around the 6.5-7 million mark with a 1.8 demo to have any shot at a renewal. On the other hand, if it stabilizes around 5 million viewers for the remainder of the season, CBS might consider giving it a shot on Showtime, which is what I'd actually prefer. I really like the show as it shows a potential to be great, but the limits of broadcast television is just holding it back.

I wonder how many of CBS's summer shows are filled with 'makegoods' due to the 'poor' ratings that resulted from last season? I know the article has a point about the Timelife CD collection seeming like late night advertising, but really, I think that ad fits with the show perfectly. Meanwhile, I think that they are offbase to questions whether regular CBS viewers can handle the Swingtown content. Most of the regular CBS viewers lived it, afterall. The people complaining about Swingtown are from a 'different breed' (those PTC lemmings that complain about whatever they are told to complain about) and if they had half a brain cell between them, they would be complaining about all of CBS's procedurals (full of drugs and dead bodies), not trying to get Swingtown banned from the airwaves.

Agreed. Swingtown has too few viewers and likely is attracting viewers that aren't going to stand in line for the crime procedurals anyway. So, not enough viewers and not the right viewers for Fall promotions. Swingtown would certainly have fit better on ABC to promote their Fall lineup.
CBS – Swingtown Viewers: 4.62 million (#2), A18-49: 1.4/ 5 (#1)
NBC – Fear Itself Viewers: 4.46 million (#3), A18-49: 1.4/ 5 (#1)
Source: Nielsen Media Research data
exmalibu's post revealed the final numbers as:
ABC Hopkins 4,750,000 1.2/4 1.6/5
CBS Swingtown 4,510,000 1.3/5 1.7/5
NBC Fear Itself 4,480,000 1.3/5 1.6/5
Did Last Comic Standing run over a minute or two on the 10pm hour? I can't think why else the preliminary numbers for Fear Itself would have been so inflated.

And I don't say that as somebody who hates the show.
I say that as somebody who likes to see Molly Parker in sexy situations, and still keeps forgetting to watch the show.
Back to cable, Molly.
Maybe hell will freeze over and Showtime will pick it up and give us some real action. Ooo that would be nice....oh crap! I really need to stop posting while watching Swingtown.
This also seems like the type of show that will generate one of those annoying fan campaigns ala Jericho (a show I actually liked) or Moonlight (a show that deserved death). We can only hope it doesn't get nuts like ABC Family's Wildfire.
