Here are the fast affiliate results for Saturday, July 5 broken out by network and by half-hour (in the order of ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox). As usual, there was absolutely nothing to report. On that note…

FOX Leads in A18-49 After 3 Days of 2008 July Sweep; CW is 4th, ABC in 5th
After three nights of the July Sweep, FOX has moved into first place in A18-49 with a rather skinny 1.4 A18-49 average.
For the first time ever, ABC has fallen into fifth place in A18-49 with a 0.73 average. Also, for the first time ever, The CW is ranked fourth in A18-49 with a 0.80 average (none of the mini-networks, including The CW, MyNetworkTV, WB, UPN, PAX-i-ION has ever before tracked above fifth place during a Sweep period).
After three nights, CBS holds on to its customary lead in viewership, with FOX and NBC close behind.

* MyNetworkTV reports only final numbers (not part of FAST National data) which will be made available on Monday.
This years numbers are based on FAST national numbers, whereas last years numbers are based upon final Nielsen numbers. Also, this year's Sweep includes the low-HUT Fourth of July whereas last year's Sweep started on July 5th and did not include the Fourth of July.

Not wanting to sound alarmist or anything, but the numbers for The Unit and Eli Stone are both very concerning. The numbers garnered by both series have established new all-time network lows for CBS and ABC.
Yes, neither series repeats well, but with numbers this low, encoring them, even on Saturdays, is not a wise use of airspace. And without encores, how will CBS and ABC ever earn sufficient payback on their licensing fees?

I'm still surprised CBS stuck with The Unit. It doesn't play well at all, especially without a good lead in. And at times, NCIS would bring in 17 million and The Unit could only hold 10 or 11. I can see this might be the last season of The Unit, unless some changes are made.

I know that Pam won't like this, but the only reason that CBS brought The Unit back was because it needed a sacrificial lamb in the Sunday 10:00 timeslot and James Woods told his good friend Les that he didn't want to be bothered with the daily grind of weekly series any longer. I fully expect CBS to launch The Tower or Harper's Island after the AFC Championship Game and for The Unit to be gone after midseason unless all of CBS' new fall shows tank.
I know this episode originally aired last Tuesday night, but does anyone have any thoughts of what occurred on MTV's "A Shot at Love 2 with Tila Tequila"? This is the danger of me following a romance-type reality show - the end result turns out to be less than satisfying (to state the least!)

I dunno of anyone else who even knew or cared it was on, let alone actually WATCHED it.(Not trying to be smart-aleck, but I'd sooner watch a collection of old cigarette commercials, & I don't smoke.)
I think the night overall was affected by a Saturday July 5, with outdoors holiday spirit prevailing. Does anyone have a set of stats for previous July 5s?

I agree. I'd give the Sunday at 10 PM edge to The Tower. It seems like a better fit for CBS Sunday. Harper's Island is likey to go after CSI on Thursday at 10 PM mid-season.
For The Unit, it's only chance of lasting for the full year is if The Mentalist or Ex-List tanks early and CBS makes the move to switch The Unit there and it does well enough to leave it in that spot for the whole year. Either that or the Wednesday comedy block tanks and The Unit is called to fill in.

Yeah, I'm thinking The Tower too, but we really haven't heard much more about it??!
As for The Unit, I thought that it would be a great fit between GW and Numb3rs, but with it being a FOX produced show, it's an expensive proposition for CBS. Also, with Password, they now have realitively cheap filler for Friday. So, I'm thinking CBS may give Harper's Island a 6-episode run on Friday at midseason then put Password at 8:00 and move GW to 9:00 for the rest of the year.

The last I heard about The Tower is from that CBS Press Express article printed about a month ago and linked here. Seeing the crew attached and the fact that it was publicized on CBS' newsletter, I can't imagine it getting passed up. You are right though, they should publicize it more. Same thing with Harper's Island. They said they were recasting but I've heard nothing about the new version of Harper's Island since its pick up. No word yet on whose in the cast and how the storylines are changing. You would think CBS would have said something else about it. Perhaps they are focusing on their fall series first.

I don't think networks make decisions on how shows repeat. I think The Unit will get its fair chance in the Fall, and not be judged on how it repeats this summer.

Password's demos aren't nothing to brag about. If I were CBS, I would keep that as summer filler only. If it suddenly starts doing poorly in viewers (a real chance in the regular season), it could be pulling low 1's for demos. The Unit has its shot on Sundays this midseason. We also have to remember that The Amazing Race and likely Survivor will need a midseason filler here or there too so even if the Towers gets 10pm Sunday, the Unit could still be used as filler.
