Marc, I just have to make a comment from your Programming Insider column this morning... and this felt like the best place to do it.
I, too, am addicted to High School Reunion. I'm not sure if it's the unholy mixture of "The Breakfast Club" and "The Bachelor", or maybe its because I myself graduated in 1987, and its fascinating (and kinda sad, actually) to see how old I really am!
I've never really been into the basic cable reality shows... but for some reason I Just Can't Get Enough (yes, pun intended) of this one.

Robert, I agree with you -- WMC paired with Eli Stone would be an awesome Friday schedule. I hope you're wrong about ABC cancelling both -- I think odds are good that at least one of them will make it, and the way ES has stood on its own last night makes me feel that they both will.

Since The Pussycat Dolls are doing so badly and One Tree Hill is already moving to Mondays? Why make the move already, have the originals on Wednesdays, keep Reaper on Thursdays and move Supernatural to Tuesdays at 9/8c just to have a stronger line up?

Because Thursday nights are going to pot and likely to get worse once GA and CSI return? But hey, I'm all for Supernatural on Tuesdays and get it out of the firing range.
NBC has got to be happy about Apprentice’s performance last night. A 4.1 in its first hour and a 4.8 in its second? Wow. Having Lost out of the way really helped.
Yup. I thought up until now this show would be done.

-Yesterday’s Winners: Deal or No Deal (NBC), Celebrity Apprentice (NBC)
How long before NBC will move Deal Or No Deal permanately to Thursdays since it perfectly anchored the night this past 2 weeks? Once again bad news for scripted shows on NBC.
Despite ABC’s trademark How-Quickly-Can-We-Kill-This-Comedy Scheduling move, it looks like Miss/Guided may be a renew-worthy show. Note to ABC: try pairing it with Samantha Who? instead of sticking an hour of back to back shows in a ridiculous time-slot. The whole back-to-back new episodes thing baffles my mind. The show airs all its episodes in less than a month’s time?
That my friend is a deliberate BURN OFF of a failed series. And if it was paired with SAMANTHA WHO then let in come on AFTER SW...because I wouldn't want it to drag down SW.
I seriously doubt that it was a deliberate burn off. ABC is certainly not in a position where they can afford to intentionally schedule a show to simply be burned off, especially if it hasn't even aired yet (unless I'm wrong, I think that the back-to-back Thu. eps were scheduled that way before the pilot aired). They need any hit they can get, especially this spring.
Miss/Guided felt like a burn-off series, because ABC scheduled all the back-to-back episodes. That's why it seemed odd that the show debuted after Dancing With the Stars. Why would ABC waste such a valuable time slot on a burn-off series?

Not this season. The scripted comedies are back in 2 weeks. But I think next fall it would make sense to schedule DoND at 8, followed by a one-hour comedy block at 9, and of course ER at 10. "The Office" has to stay on Thursdays because its demos are strong enough to compete against CSI and Grey's Anatomy. I'd probably pair it with 30 Rock at 9:30.
Can NBC really afford to keep its 2-hour comedy block for much longer?
I don't think there is too much of a concern for 5th Grader. Last year, it was new and a littl e more fresh. Now, it has settled in to its tough time slot and has actually grwon from the fall.
You can't always look at Year-to-year to see how a show is doing.
quote:
Fox finished third overall in both total viewers and adults 18-49 care of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? (Viewers: #3, 8.45 million; A18-49: #3, 2.4/ 7) and the compatible Don’t Forget the Lyrics (Viewers: #3, 8.88 million; A18-49: #3, 3.1/ 8). But what could eventually be concerning for Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? was a decline of a hefty 2.14 million viewers and 35 percent in the demo versus it’s year-ago telecast (Viewers: 10.59 million; A18-49: 3.7/11 on March 29, 2007).
You can't always look at Year-to-year to see how a show is doing.
That is the most frustrating part about Marc's analysis, that he only does the year-to-year comparisons. But hey, it's not like his winners/losers list decide renewals or anything...

Well, I could be totally wrong, but here's what I think happened.
ABC was desperate (and who can blame them) to get something, anything new to the airwaves. Trying to launch a new sitcom with reruns of others is always a loser (can you say Andy Barker, P.I.)... and since they didn't have any other sitcoms to pair M/G with (save for According to Jim... can you say 'incompatible'?) they decided to simply pair it with itself. So perhaps Miss/Guided may not have intentionally been a burn off (despite appearances) but simply a desperation move.
If ABC had been a little more patient, they could've saved M/G's run until SW? came back from hiatus.

The only way they can 'afford' to keep 2 hours of comedy on Thursday is if they start creating some better comedies. If they keep 30 Rock, as the only other comedy besides the office, they won't even have 1 hour of watchable comedy.
DoND on Thursdays is a solution to their lack of comedy, but what will they do with their Monday and Wednesday scheduling holes? How many times a week do they want to air DoND?

Oh, i'm sure he will, haha. Total viewers were up 30% in the 9pm hour alone, and 40% for the whole broadcast. Respectively, demo was up 32% and 42%. Not bad at all.
I thought when he talks about "the biggest thing on television" he was talking about his toupee... that, or his ego -- I forget which...
ABC likes to double up episodes so they don't have to hear about 'compatible lead-in'. According to Jim is frequently paired with itself and Lost was paired with itself earlier this year.
I really hope Miss Guided is renewed. I mean for an ABC comedy to still be in the upper 5 million range and only drop a bit in the demo's, that is good. Hey, look at Samantha Who. Without DWTS, it only had lower 7's and upper 6's (millions)
