I'm a fan of 30 Rock, but that episode last night was horrible. I was astonished by the difference in quality from 30 Rock and The Office last night. The Office was amazing. Just hilarious. 30 Rock was dull, boring and very much unfunny. What the hell was the point of that?
I stopped watching My Name Is Earl and I have never seen Scrubs, so I have no thoughts on those two shows.
In terms of ratings, only The Office and Scrubs showed improvement (date in parenthesis is date last aired).
30 Rock (January 10) Viewers - 5.98M to 5.72M (-260,000/4.3%) Adults 18-49 - 2.8 to 2.7 (-3.6%)
The Office (November 15, 2007) Viewers - 8.80M to 9.22M (+420,000/4.8%) Adults 18-49 - 4.8 to 4.8 (nc)
Scrubs (December 6, 2007) Viewers - 4.85M to 6.57M (+1.72M/35.5%) Adults 18-49 - 2.4 to 3.4 (+41.7%)
E.R. (January 17) Viewers - 8.92M to 7.59M (-1.33M/14.9%) Adults 18-49 - 3.4 to 3.1 (-8.8%)
It looks like "E.R." should have been on the losers list instead of "Scrubs".

30 Rock (Viewers: #3, 5.72 million; A18-49: #3, 2.7/ 7),
Isn't it wonderful that we are getting a 3rd season of this.
I don't get why NBC continues to air this show. its Demo isn't even that good.
Unfortunately for NBC, those demo numbers arn't bad for them... check out how many of their other shows did in the demo this week. It's pretty grisly.
30 Rock and Friday Night Lights happen to be in one of those best of the worst situations where NBC pretty much needs to fill slots and takes them. FNL is probably more based on critical acclaim, but NBC still has holes to fill and probably figures, why not? The problem is that too many NBC shows are in this situation: Lipstick Jungle, Life, and even ER, which had there not been a strike, would be gone this year. Why NBC must drag what was once so big through the mud is beyond me? I know it still does okay for NBC, but there comes a point in time when its just as easy to launch a new drama that's cheaper and gets about the same results.
Well it is Olympic season, and we did have a strike. NBC will likely try to re-introduce some of their shows to what will surely be a mostly new NBC audience when the Olympics start up.

I've been asking that about 30 Rock for a Year and a Half now.

Can you tell me which 30 Rock episodes are actually funny? I've sampled a few, and my reaction has always been that it's a collection of well-worn cliches borrowed from earlier, superior sitcoms, juiced up with the odd bits and pieces of contemporanea. Alec Baldwin is funny, but he's always funny. Tina Fey is cute, but she's not THAT cute.
It's possible 30 Rock is suffering from after-effects of the strike--or from writers maybe a bit steamed at Fey doing a commercial where she is portrayed as basically the only sane and competent person working on her show?
The Office has a whole cast of fascinating characters, and no one writer/producer is taking all the credit for it. It's a true collaborative effort, and as outlandish as it can be at times, it's about situations we all experience in daily life, albeit a bit less contrived, and not as well written (and no documentary film crew hanging around, thankfully--hopefully).
30 Rock is yet one more proof that people don't want to see TV shows that are primarily about the making of TV shows.
And that Tina Fey owes more to Lindsay Lohan than Lindsay Lohan owes her.
Now that I think on it, hasn't it all been downhill for Lindsay ever since she did Mean Girls?

And the rest of NBC's Thursday lineup--didn't.
That's partially true. "Scrubs" is also doing well (in terms of percentage increase, better than "The Office" even), while "E.R." is the only show down year-to-year.
Comparisons are from the episodes that aired on April 12, 2007.
My Name Is Earl Viewers - 6.67M to 6.98M (+310,000/4.6%) Adults 18-49 - 3.0 to 3.0 (nc)
The Office--8:30 Viewers - 7.71M to 9.22M (+1.51M/19.6%) Adults 18-49 - 4.1 to 4.8 (+17.1%)
30 Rock--9:00 Viewers - 5.07M to 5.72M (+650,000/12.8%) Adults 18-49 - 2.6 to 2.7 (+3.8%)
Scrubs Viewers - 5.05M to 6.57M (+1.52M/30.1%) Adults 18-49 - 2.7 to 3.4 (+25.9%)
E.R. Viewers - 9.24M to 7.59M (-1.65M/17.9%) Adults 18-49 - 3.7 to 3.1 (-16.2%)
