pisher, I don't think anyone is buying your arguments -- I certainly am not.

And people here have overwhelmingly been positive about LOST today, save for a couple of folks.

I'm having a great day actually.

As you wish:

Showing the incredible potential of LOST on multiple entertainment platforms, just released LOST video game is a hit with reviewers:

From the Washington Post:
quote:
Get Lost -- in a Good Way

Based on the TV show "Lost" and featuring characters from the series, Lost: Via Domus reveals a few answers to the mysteries facing the survivors of downed Oceanic Flight 815.

Those expecting the typical lame action game based on a hit TV show (see "Alias" or "24") will be surprised by Lost: Via Domus.

Ubisoft worked closely with the creators of the hit ABC show "Lost" to craft a classic adventure game filled with puzzles, answers to the show's rich mythology and an occasional action sequence. Designed for fans of the series, this game puts players in the middle of the action as Elliot, an original character who is a fellow survivor of the crash that stranded passengers of Oceanic Flight 815 on a mysterious island.

With amnesia from the crash, Elliot has his own story that unfolds through seven chapters of the game, which lasts about a dozen hours. Flashbacks, so vital to the show, are interactive in the game: Elliot can walk around in his memories (including a sequence aboard Flight 815 before it took off) and snap photos to unlock clues to his past. On the island, Elliot interacts with central characters from the show, including the survivors and the strange Others.

Although next-generation graphics bring each character to life, only six actors from the show provide voices. The voice-alikes are a mixed bag, and those that don't work can hamper your enjoyment.

Elliot's adventure takes players to locales familiar to fans, including the hatch and the survivors' beach camp, but also allow gamers to explore new areas. Mysteries will be solved along the way as the show's creators reveal new things about the first three seasons.

The challenging puzzles drive the narrative. The game features action and exploration elements, including a journey through dark caves and a frantic run from the dreaded black smoke. The look and feel of the series is enhanced by an original score from the show's composer, Michael Giacchino.

This is one game that lives up to fans' expectations.

Oh great one... Please tell us what to watch. We do not know what is best for us. Please lead us to the great TV programming that we are missing. Roll Eyes

The episode last night was arguably one of the 5 best tv episodes I have ever seen, and Lost is by far the best show on television, and yet it cant beet absolute mindless garbage like Dont Forget the Lyrics..

Its just amazing to see how Americans dont watch good shows, and watch stupid reality programs like Survivor or Deal or No Deal (I dont get how people find joy in watching people pick numbers that open cases), or mediocre shows (like basically everything on CBS)...

As for Idol, the ratings remain solid, and will continue to go up once Carly, Michael, David Archuleta, David Cooke, and Brooke White start battling it out to win it all this year...

Then what do the ratings from the first two seasons of Lost prove? Confused

That people have gotten even dumber in 2 years...

I think we might want to scrap the whole public school education thing and start from scratch. Just bulldoze every public school across America, get rid of every teacher, and start from the beginning...

I am not telling anyone what to watch. I am just saying that many people watch horrible shows and ignore the good ones.

And the networks contirbute to the problem by producing more of that same garbage.

But, if people want to skip Lost and watch idiots make fools of themselves on Dont Forget the Lyrics, that says something, but they are entitled to do just that...

Actually, wouldn't they prove that people got smarter, THEN dumber? Really, what they prove is that the national intelligence level rises and falls in accordance with how the Nielsen ratings agree with your tastes in popular entertainment. So when will your study be published? Smiler

And just make all the kids watch primetime network TV shows you like? A required viewing list, if you will. Smiler

Here's a simpler idea--why not outlaw television, and force everyone to read? Smiler

Now, I'm not saying that public education in the US is fabulous, but I'm pretty sure that a decrease in the number of people watching Lost isn't a valid indication of the state of education.

WAT - Marc had the net averaging 3.3 which would be a 2.7 for WAT and in line with past

LOST and NCAA's - marginal effect

LOST coming out of GA - marginal effect

LOST against WAT - WAT gets nicked somewhat

I'd buy that if you were talking about The Wire. Lost is a fun show sometimes, but at its very best, it's still just an above-average genre potboiler with some good actors. You don't actually think there are deep meanings in there, do you?

So the obvious answer is to stop watching television, since the more television there is, the more garbage people watch. Really, even the best TV is garbage compared to the great novels. If the objective is to only spend our time on stories that enrich and enlighten us, we shouldn't be watching TV at all. There have been studies that show watching TV lowers the IQ. And no studies that show watching Lost raises it. I'd say there's plenty of evidence that the opposite is true. Wink

Most videogames based on franchises are flops; and that screenshot looks really bad.

Why would you trust reviews for a game, especially from... the Washington Post? Confused

That sums up everything I hate about Lost. "Mysteries" instead of a real story, and "mythology" (oh how that word has been misused) instead of consistency.

I think a lot of things are involved in comparing Lost's numbers 2008 to 2005.

1. DVR - I don't have the figures but i'm assuming that DVR usuage has more than doubled in the last 3 years?? I think Lost is a very difficult show to watch live sometimes. It's very involved and I for one enjoy it more if I can pause it, stop it and go back and rewind it.

2. People lose interest- It's only natural. It happens to the best of shows as the seasons go on. Grays doesn't do as well as it did but it's still has a large viewing audience. Although i'm not one of these people I can see how some people can give up on Lost. It's a show you really have to dedicate yourself to, to appreciate it.

3. Cable TV- more and more people are watching Cable over the network shows. More good shows are on cable now and also Discovery, The History Channel and AMC have been doing a great job presenting good first run programming

4. 4 time slots in 4 seasons (soon to be 5 time slots in 4 seasons) how many shows do you know that have been thrown all over the schedule and still have a loyal (and in my opinion fairly impressive following) and have very good ratings to boot?? none. Look at what has happened:

2004- Wed's at 8
2005- Wed's at 9
2006/07- Wed's at 10
2008- thu's at 9
4/24-5/22-thu's at 10

any show would lose casual viewers if it's constantly being moved.

I don't think Milcus is trying to tell us what to watch. I think his point is that a lot of shows that involved more than a rudimentary level of thinking are usually ignored by the mass audience. Often viewers complain about complex storylines. Since many people (that have stopped watching) have been saying that about LOST, I agree with Milcus that it seems to indicate a trend of avoiding those types of shows.

When we were at the meeting, we decided that no one should be told in advance how Lost ends. Each person has to figure it out for themselves or keep watching until the last episode. So, the ratings for Lost are a direct count of the number of people in America that are not smart enough to have figured it out yet. Shhhhh...don't tell. Wink
