ABC will be a shambles when Dancing returns and will finish the season in 3rd, maybe even 4th place. (NBC has announced a pretty good strike schedule)

This will be worse than a replay of 06-7.

ABC should already prepare to get shut down, with their poor performance in the sweeps and all!

Certainly ABC must envy the new hits on other networks like KVille, Nashville, NGAB, B2U...

"What a terrible new show track record."
After all, ABC only could get 5/5 of top new shows.

They are in Chicago right now. (Yeah!) Can't wait to find out which places they pick. (Hope it's not a place I've been to and find out about their unsanitary kitchen conditions.) Red Face

Yep. Its a bonefide success for Fox this fall. Easily their best new show.

Right, what about the other three 1/2-hours? Or the fact that the sitcom TD repeats so poorly? Fox under-performs once again, without AI and House this network would be a complete failure.

Season averages are a bit deceiving with ABC's shows this year. They all started out with good numbers, but with the exception of PP and WMC, they loose viewers week after week. That is the problem. PD, DSM, Big Shots, Carpoolers, and Cavemen all consistently drop in the ratings from week to week. Samantha Who? seems unable to get much of an audience without DWTS handing it 20 million viewers.

On the other hand, shows like Chuck, Life, and Moonlight have been able to hold on to more of their audiences and are now posting better numbers than the ABC shows.

I believe our bet, Obveeus, was for the finale to beat 5.5 million. But since this isn't Florida in 2000, I'm willing to call this a push.

But I hope you agree that of all the contestants that started on this season, Short Saleshia with the bad haircut was hardly the best of the lot.

Season averages are deceiving for all shows. Three of the shows you mentioned in declines are outright failures and will not be returning next year. The only shows with significant declines that have decent shots at renewal are PD and DSM. Samantha Who's lead in has been dropped in half- over 10 million less at times. Yet that show has maintained better ratings than any other new comedy on ABC in years. Once Dancing Wars gets back as the lead in it will be fine and I would be surprised if ABC didn't reair these episodes later on when the original Dancing is back on the air for more exposure. Private Practice has easily become the number one new show of the year and its margin could be much wider if it weren't for some really dumb programming moves. On the other hand, only Chuck has managed to really get a steady stable audience around. Moonlight has been somewhat consistent and has drug down a once very solid CBS Friday. It will get axed at the end of the year unless CBS has no new shows because I still see them keeping Amazing Race on the schedule and I think that there's a shot that a new hour of comedies will be developed. That leaves only 1 hour worth of time to develop (Tuesday at 10) and even that hour may be filled if Jericho manages to do well behind the younger skewing Big Brother. Life may have stabilized but this show's best shot is still on older skewing Fridays.

I suppose ABC shows should have started at abysmal levels like Life or ML to be deemed success of the season (not that Life or ML has improved since, mind you).

SW has dropped for sure, but not only did it lose DWTS, it also doesn't much of a lead-in at all now and has changed timeslot. Besides, not all shows can get ratings so high even with huge lead-ins (see BS). So yes it has suffered in ratings with weird programming but it also now airs in the Christmas/repeat period. Same goes for PD, the only original hour on ABC this last episode after a two-weeks break, a change of time-slot the previous week (when with a lead-in for the first time, it increased to 10m viewers) and an airing on Thanksgiving before that. Hardly significant at all, even if ABC is to blame. For that one week, when every other network would like to have a new show reaching PD numbers.

Who knows how much they would get without the strike? The only objective data is the season average, and as far as new shows go, ABC is a clear winner.

I'd like to see what numbers B2U would get now paired with repeats of TD. Life is still around 6m viewers, and ML doesn't do much better.
