Marc is comparing this year's first round #s with last years second round #s. This is like compairing apples to oranges and does not give a true reflection.

With that being said I am not sure how this year's 1st round is comparing to last years. But the information provided by Marc is an unfair comparison.

Yes, Hawk-eye, you're correct about the internet streaming. I know many people who are watching March Madness on the net because they can choose the games and have to watch whatever is being fed to the affiliates. I really wish CBS would release these numbers.

Hollywood Reporter Article on CBS March Madness online.
No data on viewer numbers, but a strong indication that they would be up since the number of unique visitors has doubled from last year.

Thanks for that info, Obveeus. One thing I notice about CBS's streaming of BB is that, unlike ESPN360's college football (which does a lot of promo ESPN during), there are a great number more commercials. I'm sure ESPN will catch-up, but I wonder what the revenue stream is for CBS. I have one game on CBS TV and another is streaming. The only problem is CBS keeps switching back and forth to the game I am streaming which is about 2 minutes behind the network feed. It's enough to make my head explode.

Yes, thanks for the info!!

It's so funny to see CBS ahead of the curve on something for a change. Maybe Big Brother isn't all that bad??! Wink

I would suspect that "The Ten Commandments" did more harm to FOX than basketball did.

I was watching "The Ten Commandments" last night. I bet it would do well, and it did!

He did that before with college football games, comparing one year's championship game with another year's 3rd or 4th tier game. I think we need to get Marc a sports advisor! Big Grin

RE: Streaming Basketball.

On Saturday, I watched all of the KU/UNLV game by switching between the streaming feed and the live CBS broadcast. Since the prior game took almost a half hour to play the last couple of minutes, by the time CBS joined the KU/UNLV game, almost ten minutes of the first half were over.

In the second half, when KU started moving ahead, CBS went to the Stanford/Marquette game which went into over time and only came back to KU at the very end.

It was somewhat strange when watching it streaming and seeing the score update on the broadcast feed a couple of minutes ahead of when it was seen on the streaming feed.

The streaming does put in ads during the breaks and even when they say they are going back to to New York.
