It's not like this is just about white people not watching "black" shows. The top comedies among the African American demographic are The Game and Girlfriends. Are black viewers watching them instead of 2 1/2 Men or The Office because of quality or because they feature black leads? The week of October 23 (it's the only week we have on the board here), more black viewers watched The Game than Grey's Anatomy. Again, is that about quality or color?

Look for example at Everybody Hates Chris. It opened big showing that an african american show is not rejected from the start. If the show would've been really good right now it would've been a hit without any problem.

Duh, because the Nazi's anger was directed primarily at Jews. My last comment was said as a joke, FYI. I'm just saying, look at history. There have been many sucessful black sitcoms and drama's. If you feel that will never happen again, you can think that. I feel differently. If a quality, mass-appealing show comes along, it will be sucessful regardless if there is a black, asian, or gay in the lead role. And your right, I guess I am a moron for wasting my time trying to explain to someone why being racist is so last century.

OK, because I noticed that 100% of top series have white lead actors, that makes me a member of the KKK (why didn't you go with nazi directly?).

And repeating the same mantra "color doesn't matter and the world is a happy happy place!!! Smiler " without a single example of successfull TV show currently on the air with a non-white lead makes you a noble idealist, or a moron?

As for "reality" TV, we were talking about sitcoms originally. But yes I guess an African-American can win "Who Wants to Marry an American 5th Grader?", a truly moving thought.

Beacause they've liked those shows better than 21/2M. I'm white and i think The Game is better than 21/2M.

So you're saying that the majority of black viewers just happen to think that The Game and Girlfriends are the best comedies on the air and the color of the leads has nothing to do with it?

That doesn't even begin to answer the question.

Speaking of traditional multi-cam comedies, ABC seems to be making a bit more effort in developing and hopefully picking them up. Two projects with Cedric the Entertainer and Damon Wayans are in the mix for next season, and Cedric's comedy has been ordered to pilot. I can see an hour of these series together, either on Tuesdays or Fridays @ 8pm next season.

This doesn't sound like a very good idea. Cedric and Damon Wayans are:
1. not funny (at least Cedric, the Wayans brothers can be but are very unequal)
2. not family-friendly
3. not really popular
4. black (not a problem if they don't take the leading role, but that's unlikely in Cedric's case)

That's two flops waiting to happen.

1. Cedric and Wayans can be very funny
2. What on Earth means family-friendly for you? You seem like those "tv watchers" trying to stop Married with Children in the 90s
3. Cedric and Wayans are popular
4. I cannot even comment on that actually, it's just painful to read and totally false

I think all shows should have "RACIAL EQUALITY" when it comes to the casts. Especially those "RACISTS" that are so superior of their race (actually its INSECURITY of their race).

About BL, I'm a huge fan too...I haven't seen yesterday episode yet, but last week episode - despite the horrible ratings - was on of my favourites.

And in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make.

If you find my english is bad, it's because I'm italian. :-)

The Unit has a black lead.
Ugly Betty has a Hispanic lead.
Law & Order's lead detective is black.

I'll give another example. Almost as many African Americans watched K-Ville as House routinely from September through December. If you were marketing to African Americans, it would make sense to advertise in a minority led project like K-Ville than House, where the overall percentage of African-American viewers is much lower.

There is a place for minority demo TV. None of the main five is really capitalizing on it fully.

If the strike ends soon, the only difference I think would be more reality shows/game show ideas in the fall. There will still be a lot of new shows placed on air. Networks just won't waste money on a terrible idea like Traveling in Packs or Nice Girls Don't Get the Corner Office or I Am Paige Wilson that had no chance of getting picked up and that no one would ever see.

But Everybody Hates Chris, just like Chris Rock himself, is very popular with all audiences. I think that on an actual network the show would have done quite well. Because it has universal appeal.

But if a show is going to only draw it's audience from one race, it has to be white to succeed.

This makes exec's terrified of building a show around an African American lead, because the potential is that it will get buzz as a black show which they know means it won't succeed. This is why Mixed Race actors are so popular, especially on Twener TV, because we hope that race gets taken out of the equation
