-Ratings Breakdown:
Fox dominated, of course, on this American Idol-populated Tuesday. In the very distant No. 2 spot was NBC, followed by CBS, ABC and the CW.
American Idol stood well above any Tuesday series, with a hefty 29.05 million viewers and an 11.7 rating/29 share among adults 18-49 from 8-9 p.m. But comparably, that was a loss of 4.60 million viewers and 13 percent among adults 18-49 from the year-ago telecast (Viewers: 33.65 million; A18-49: 13.5/33 on Jan. 30, 2007).
Second in total viewers at 8 p.m. was a repeat of CBS’ NCIS at a respectable 12.15 million (and a third-place 2.2/ 5 among adults 18-49). NBC’s The Biggest Loser 5 was just the opposite, growing in each of its four half hours and capping off with a first-place finish among adults 18-49 at 9:30 p.m. Take a look at the breakdown:
The Biggest Loser (NBC)
8:00 p.m. – Viewers: 6.45 million (#3), A18-49: 2.5/ 7 (#2)
8:30 p.m. – Viewers: 7.57 million (#3), A18-49: 3.2/ 8 (#2)
9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 10.06 million (#2), A18-49: 4.1/10 (#2)
9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 11.68 million (#2), A18-49: 4.9/12 (#1)
Also airing in the 8 p.m. hour were two episodes (original and repeat) of ABC’s Just For Laughs (Viewers: #4, 4.76 million; A18-49: #4, 1.4/ 4), and a repeat of the CW’s Reaper (Viewers: #5, 1.54 million; A18-49: #5, 0.6/ 2).
First overall in the 9 p.m. hour (and aided, no doubt, from lead-in American Idol) was a repeat of Fox’s House at 14.02 million viewers and a 5.0/12 among adults 18-49. Also airing in the hour was a repeat of CBS’ The Unit (Viewers: #3, 7.91 million; A18-49: #3t, 1.9/ 5), ABC’s According to Jim (Viewers: #4, 6.18 million; A18-49: #3, 2.2/ 5) and Carpoolers (Viewers: #4, 4.89 million; A18-49: #4, 1.7/ 4), and the CW’s One Tree Hill (Viewers: #5, 3.05 million; A18-49: #5, 1.4/ 4). Worth noting for One Tree Hill was growth out of the encore telecast of lead-in Reaper of 1.51 million viewers and a considerable 133 percent in the demo. As for the ABC comedies, tick, tock…the cancellation clock is ticking.
NBC’s Law & Order dominated at 10 p.m., with 12.97 million viewers and a 4.6/13 among adults 18-49. Second was ABC’s Boston Legal at a below-average 8.24 million viewers and a 2.2/ 6 in the demo, followed by a Tuesday edition of CBS’ 48 Hours Mystery (Viewers: 6.93 million; A18-49: 2.0/ 5).
