Prime-Time Ratings:
Saturday 12/01/07

The following results are based on the fast affiliate ratings (Live Plus Same Day data)

-Saturday’s Winners:
Saturday Night Football – Big 12 Championship (ABC)

-Saturday’s Losers (excluding repeats):
Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular (NBC)

----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
ABC totally dominated this post-November sweeps Saturday, with a first-place finish in every half-hour and an average 9.79 million viewers and a 3.6 rating/10 share among adults 18-49 for Missouri vs. Oklahoma on Saturday Night Football (Big 12 Championship) from 8-11 p.m. Comparably, that outdelivered the No. 2 network (CBS in total viewers, Fox among adults 19-49) by a considerable 2.61 million viewers and 64 percent in the demo.

CBS opened the evening with a repeat of made-for movie Jesse Stone: Sea Change at 7.34 million viewers and a 1.1/ 3 among adults 18-49 from 8-10 p.m. That led into 48 Hours Mystery at 6.85 million viewers (#2) and a 1.7/ 5 in the demo (#2) at 10 p.m. NBC aired seasonal special Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular at 8 p.m. (Viewers: #4, 6.47 million; A18-49: #3, 1.2/ 4), followed by repeats of Chuck (Viewers: #4, 2.95 million; A18-49: #4, 0.9/ 2) and Law & Order: SVU (Viewers: #3, 5.43 million; A18-49: #3, 1.4/ 4) from 9-11 p.m. At the risk of being attacked again on Feedback for my “snide remarks,” Chuck is just one of those well intentioned shows that will never be a mass appear hit.

Fox finished third overall in total viewers and second among adults 18-49 with its perennial combination of Cops (Viewers: #4, 5.91 million; A18-49: #2, 2.1/ 7) and America’s Most Wanted (Viewers: #3, 6.30 million; A18-49: #2, 2.3/ 7).

It doesn't get any older than that. The CW Monday comedies pull that demo with around 1/3rd the total viewers.

Awww, poor Chuck. 2,95 million is not good. However, it's been gaining more viewers in the last few weeks and it's NBC's best new show... I'm confident for it's chances. Go, Chuck! It's cracking 8 mil these days and it's been a while since that happened.

But it still should do better... which is something that can be said all of NBC...

And Saturday Night Football did awesomely!

I think Jesse Stone should be a fat loser. 1.1 for CBS? Not even NBC Big Grin

NBC should try:

8:00pm Law & Order
9:00pm Law & Order: SVU
10:00pm Law & Order: CI

And what ever happened to Law & Order: Trial by Jury?

Totally off-topic, but this one's for TV-aholic:
Gene Simmons to guest on Ugly Betty.

Jesse Stone has always done well in viewers, but very poorly in the proportion of A18-49 demo it attracts. I cannot fathom why...Mr. Selleck was the young demo bees knees just a few decades back.

ABC has finished a very strong season of Saturday Night College Football. An idea for Mr. McPherson that occurred to me today while reading Hawk-eye's tribute to Mr. Evel Knievel in another posting string. Why doesn't ABC revive the Wide World of Sports franchise that ran from 1961-1997 to very strong Saturday afternoon ratings. And for weeks where there isn't a heck of a lot to report in the sports world (is there ever any such week?), then ABC could show encores of previous landmark broadcasts of this exceptional series of sports journalism.

Just thinking of it makes me wistful for Mr. Howard Cosell...and his odd-but-endearing Saturday Night Live With Howard Cosell variety series.

Marc...I don't really care much for the "new you". Don't feel like you have to sugar-coat everything now because of one crazed FNL lover. You can do better. If you think Chuck is performing poorly, just say it. Stop worrying about your "snide remarks". Even for a repeat, Chuck's numbers were horrible (and yes-I love Chuck). And although J.Stone skews older, 7.34 seems pretty great for a repeat movie on a Saturday night.

I agree you on Wide World of Sports, Dumont. I am NOT a sports person, but I used to watch that program on Saturday afternoons because they covered unusual sports in an intelligent fashion. If it were properly executed, might that work in primetime on Saturdays outside of College Football season?
