-The Franchises that Keep on Ticking: Cops (Fox), America’s Most Wanted (Fox)
-Better than Normal: Movie: Hallmark Hall of Fame’s The Magic of Ordinary Days R (CBS)
-Saturday’s Losers (excluding repeats) Truth in Motion: The U.S. Ski Team’s Road to Vancouver (NBC)
----------
-Ratings Breakdown: It was a Saturday of mixed leadership, with CBS the most-watched network and Fox No. 1 among adults 18-49. CBS opened the evening with repeat made-for Hallmark Hall of Fame’s The Magic of Ordinary Days, which was above-average for the network in the 8-10 p.m. block with 7.32 million viewers and a 1.0 rating/3 share among adults 18-49. Take a look at the half-hour breakdown:
Hallmark Hall of Fame’s The Magic of Ordinary Days R (CBS) 8:00 p.m. – Viewers: 5.95 million (#2), A18-49: 0.8/ 2 (#2) 8:30 p.m. – Viewers: 7.13 million (#1), A18-49: 0.9/ 3 (#2) 9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 7.85 million (#1), A18-49: 1.1/ 3 (#2) 9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 8.34 million (#1), A18-49: 1.2/ 4 (#2)
Leading out of the movie encore was long-running 48 Hours Mystery at a dominant 7.11 million viewers and a 1.5/ 5 among adults 18-49 at 10 p.m. Fox, of course, aired its perennial combination of Cops (original and repeat – Viewers: #2, avg. 6.19 million; A18-49: #1, avg. 2.0/ 7) from 8-9 p.m. and compatible America’s Most Wanted (Viewers: #2, 5.62 million; A18-49: #1, 1.8/ 6 at 9 p.m.). As I say all the time, both Cops and America’s Most Wanted will outlive us all.
Next up was low-rated NBC with its line-up of 8 p.m. special Truth in Motion: The U.S. Ski Team’s Road to Vancouver (Viewers: #4, 1.78 million; A18-49: #4, 0.5/ 2), a repeat of Law & Order (Viewers: #3, 3.79 million; A18-49: #4, 0.8/ 2), and a repeat of Law & Order: SVU (Viewers: #2, 5.12 million; A18-49: #2, 1.2/ 3).
Capping off the evening was ABC care of a two-hour repeat edition of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (Viewers: 2.86 million; A18-49: 0.9/ 3 from 8-10 p.m.) and a repeat of Castle (Viewers: #3, 4.04 million; A18-49: #3, 0.8/ 3 at 10 p.m.), which just had its episode order increased from 22 to 24 for this season. See you back in 2010-11, Castle.

Marc, What do you think of CBS putting Hallmark Hall of Fame repeats on Saturday Nights on a regular basis. I can see some eyes rolling, but this is an interesting idea. Not every week, but at least monthly or quaterly. CBS has enough movies in their vault to be able to pull this off. It would work great from say November-March....colder weather months. I still believe if they were to program this night, and keep 48 HOURS, they could get 8-9 million per week
I don't really understand why networks have decided to give up on this night, if something as cruddy as Cops can get a 2.0 in the demo... come on! And especially in times when people don't really have extra money to spend the night out.
Then again, the nets know more than me.

If they installed the movie on a regular basis, and they are airing another one next week, the numbers would probably grow, not to anything great but certainly it would be worthwhile.
The longer term benefit could be to build a regular audience who gets accustomed to watching tv on saturday nite. It's going to be an older slanting nite no matter how you slice it. Then later, if desired, stronger programming could be sprung into the schedule either at 10pm or gradually to take over the movie. I don't advocate it. Just saying that could be on their minds.
As it is now, it is a grab bag of crime dramas and not everybody who likes CSI likes CSI Miami or likes Criminal Minds or likes NCIS, and these shows are stumbled into more than looked for.

Castle is turning out to be a great repeater for ABC. Even on a Saturday, any ABC drama that can get over 4 million for a repeat is a definite keeper. Castle is definitely becoming a success story this season, which is nice to see. COPS/AMW are up this season, aren't they? Those numbers are very good for Saturday nights, especially when the numbers are better than they were Friday night. The CBS movie did great viewers, terrible demo, and 48 Hours continues to chug along on the night. CBS has the right idea here, and if they don't care about that low demo, then they should definitely keep it as a regular thing.
Interesting that EM:HE did better than Castle in the demos with roughly 70% of the viewership. Perhaps there is a market out there for some sort of feel good reality on Saturdays on ABC as long as the costs could be managed with the aid of corporate tie ins.

I missed it but I also heard that it was really good. Hopefully some of the clips end up online.

Don't they have like 6-8 episodes of Secret Millionaire in the can? This would be great for Saturdays. IMO, ABC should leave Supernanny on Fridays all season, and maybe do a Saturday lineup of Wife Swap, Secret Millionaire, and Castle repeats come March. Just an idea, but something along those lines could work.
On the subject of Castle, I saw the first what I considered to be solid episode of this last nite, an ep titled "Ghosts" from 2009 which involved a writer and a couple of fugitives from a 1989 crime who had turned into ghosts with new lives and identities, one of whom was murdered. It was an interesting yarn, and Castle's interaction with both the writer and Beckett at the end was entertaining.
I've been criticizing the show for being a few bricks shy of a load so I'm just trying to even things out.

Networks can't programme Saturday's because YOU won't let them. The second they announce a programme that will air on Saturday's you immediatly assume burn off or DOA. Even if FOX was to move American Idol to Saturday's you would all be saying that it's being moved there to die.
If networks where to come out and said in May that they were programming the new seasons most promosing shows on a Saturday you would either attack the network for not looking after the show or attack the show assuming it's bad because it's on a Saturday.
It's too late to break the rut now, Saturday's are dead except for live sporting events and long running franchises.
Saturday's are huge in the UK because we expect quality television on a Saturday (X Factor, Strictly Come Dancing, Doctor Who, Primeval, Merlin etc.) [Albeit some of those shows are not in my personal tastes but they still prove successful with audience ands critics]
On a different note, Marc will you be talking about the Parks renewal in your podcast tomorrow? I'm looking forward to hearing your views on it.
