B/c ABC's production company owns Scrubs. It reaps money from syndication deals.

quote: Am i the only one who thinks that most of the shows after the strike are pretty bad? I thought that during the strike the writers would come up woth great ideas, but most of the episodes i watched are below the average quality of the shows.
The Office has been fine, and Lost actually improved. But in general, it's probably never a good thing for a season to get interrupted. All kinds of domino chains get toppled.

I don't know, but if I were Steve McPherson, I would hold off on new shows until at least January and spend the summer reminding people that Desperate Housewives, Brothers & Sisters, Grey's Anatomy, Ugly Betty, and the Wednesday night drama line-up are still on TV (I use those shows because they're already picked up... whereas stuff like WMC, BL, MIT, etc are on the fence). I mean... a massive campaign. Massive.
Until JANUARY? Are you kidding me? Regardless, what's the point of doing that "MASSIVE" promo campaign during the summer when ABC will have a difficult time cracking a mid-2 demo? And what about November sweeps?
You misunderstood. Hold off new series. Make the fall all about the returning series.

Supernatural's numbers are just plain bad. What happened?
For SN, failed concept of basing an episode on a reality fictional reality series, the shaking camera action, and I have read....not showing the series regulars until 15-20 minutes into the episode. Some viewers tuned out because it did not seem like SN. Peace!!

Surprisingly, on a year-over-year basis against last years finals, ABC had the smallest decline in A18-49 demographic: web demo demo %
web 2008 2007 chg
ABC 4.80 5.20 -8%
CBS 4.00 4.77 -16%
NBC 2.90 3.20 -9%
FOX 2.30 2.70 -15%
CW 1.20 1.40 -14%

Travisyanan, in order to up the familiarity quotient and hold off on new fall series, how many and which of the 10 pm bubble dramas would you renew? (October Road / Boston Legal / Cashmere Mafia / Men in Trees / Big Shots / Eli Stone / Women's Murder Club)

To give the writers some defense, this was an episode that was written before the strike and was meant as a midseason lightweight. After the strike, since the script was pretty much complete, they decided to use it, much to the shock of many fans, since there are only 4 episodes left and one was wasted on a standalone comedy that didn't even have anything to do with Supernatural itself. So, who knows. I'm just going to say people tuned out because they were confused, bored or just didn't like this type of camera/reality show.

Maybe on paper it sounded good, but it just did not fly at all on screen. I hope this is the first and last time they try something like that. Peace!! quote: Originally posted by robert: I don't know what the writers on SN were thinking

ABC effectively ended blockbuster fiction shows with its move of GA to Thursday against CSI.

From MediaLife:
At 10 p.m., ABC’s “Lost” dominated the competition in 18-49s, averaging a 5.5, just 0.2 off what it had been averaging in the earlier timeslot this season. CBS’s “Without a Trace” finished 40 percent behind it with a 3.3, while NBC’s “ER” hit another series low at 2.9.
Marc is showing a 4.8. That's a big difference... Who's right?
Either way, its a huge improvement over the 4.4 demo it got from its last original episode in March. I was one of the naysayers who thought that a 10pm Lost (even after GA) wouldn't improve on the performance of its last few episodes in March. With the buildup to the season finale - I would expect these numbers to stabilize and perhaps creep up. (and as good as last night's episode was... expect great word of mouth as well...)

Not in the demo. Seems like EVERYTHING was down last night. Too bad The Office is saddled between two fairly unfunny and poorly performing shows.
I hate the stupid demos. It should just be by viewers. Then everything would be easier.
Profound.
