I'm willing to change my stance on 30 Rock and probably shouldn't have included it in that list. What should happen however is a move back to 8:30 on Thursdays airing out of either Amy Poehler's new show or My Name is Earl (should NBC chose to renew it- I think they will). I think Law and Order can return. NBC should utilize it as a lead in for a new show. It could probably do at least second in viewers at 8pm Wednesday and a 2.5 demo or so away from other procedurals. Besides, NBC apparently wants to let the show break Gunsmoke's record. Chuck's demo may be a bit higher than L&O's but its just not that popular of a show and tough decisions will have to be made. I'd say between Earl, Chuck, Law and Order, and Life, two will make the cut. The two I'm guessing are Earl and Law and Order. Chuck would imo make a great USA series, with Monk leaving the airwaves and all. Finally, while I'm sure it will be a last minute pickup again, Medium really deserves a slot too. I would simply move Heroes and Medium up an hour on Mondays or use Medium as the 8pm hour and keep Heroes at 9.
I don't like the show but I've said its just not a CBS show from the start. I do think it would be a great Thursday night addition for NBC.

I think L&O would be a great 8pm Wednesday series into the new LAPD. Agreed Howie Do It could be Friday 8pm material if ratings hold up this January (remember- Fox won't have 5th Grader there much longer). DOND if I had to guess will be like the Price is Right now: air in daytime and have primetime specials.

With DOND, NBC is planning on resting it in the spring. I think if Howie Do It hits, HDI and DOND will share a timeslot in the future.

Comments like this always amaze me in their stupidity. I'm sure whether or not "Law & Order" breaks the record 20 season run of "Gunsmoke" is not being discussed in the executive suite at NBC. At the end of the day, does anyone really care if "Law" beats "Gunsmoke"? It is an arbitrary record anyway, since "Law" would probably have to run for 10 more seasons to eclipse "Gunsmoke" in terms of episodes produced.
Actually, since "Gunsmoke" ran for 20 seasons and "Law & Order" is in its 19th season, it would actually have to run for two more seasons to overtake the long-running Western.
NBC is about spending as little money as possible while still providing entertainment, not satisfying an overrated producers outsized ego.
If that were true, Law and Order would've been canceled two years ago or be on TNT by now. The ratings are still good for NBC and when it has a half ass lead in (like last week) it does quite well yet. Dick Wolf provides NBC with its only real hit drama yet. What may happen is Criminal Intent could get cut (since ratings are not insanely good for USA), but I would like them to keep that for a while yet too and air the repeats on Saturdays at 10 after Most Outrageous Moments and Dateline.
Originally posted by Julie: BBT continues to amaze - never would have expected it to reach 10 million so quickly, but now it can easily outshine that.
Yeah, and it would be doing even better if all the CBS affiliates would ever air the show. For the second week in a row it was preempted in St. Louis and Columbus, OH and a couple of other affiliates. Something about a CBS agreement where affiliates can show other programming at 8:00, and keep all the advertising income. It lost roughly 300,00-400,000 viewers in the finals the past two weeks with preemptions, while the other CBS sitcoms all aired in all markets. It would easily be CBS's second most viewed sitcom if the it ever had full coverage from all affiliates.
No sense in crying over this nonsense. The shows are doing fine. The local affiliates have the right a few times a year to air other things instead. CBS is the morons in this situation. They could've saved these episodes for January and February when more people are watching TV.
Well it is TV's #1 new comedy. I think people around here tend to forget that.

ABC, ABC Studios Feeling Urge to Merge? By Josef Adalian
With NBC moving to consolidate its network and studio operations, industry insiders are beginning to buzz about the possibility of other potential mergers—and there’s a growing consensus that ABC might be next.
Knowledgeable sources inside Disney and ABC insist that no structural changes are imminent, with one insider even saying that such a change hasn’t even been discussed with top executives at the company. A Disney-ABC spokesman declined comment.
But that hasn’t stopped knowledgeable Hollywood sources from suggesting that Disney is considering a scenario under which ABC and ABC Studios both would report to one executive, likely ABC Entertainment President Steve McPherson. While there’s a chance Disney could maintain separate studio and network development teams, it seems more likely in the current economic environment that the company would try to find cost savings by combining staffs.
It’s not just NBC’s merger that’s fueling the talk of an ABC-ABC Studios consolidation. ABC-ologists are making a big deal out of the fact that ABC Studios President Mark Pedowitz’s contract is up in late February, and the company has not yet announced a renewal. (Of course, it took a long time for Disney to announce a new deal with Mr. McPherson, and he ultimately reupped.)
The delay in Mr. Pedowitz’s deal has led to much talk that Mr. Pedowitz may be talking to Disney ABC TV Group chief Anne Sweeney about a new position within the Disney universe. His business acumen is well-regarded by many in the company, and he and Ms. Sweeney have had a good relationship.
Another piece of the puzzle: The appointment earlier this year of Barry Jossen to the top creative post at ABC Studios under Mr. Pedowitz. If Mr. Pedowitz left ABC Studios, it seems unlikely Mr. Jossen would be ready to take sole control of the studio. But Mr. McPherson and Mr. Jossen are said to have an excellent working relationship, making it easy for many to see the two men working on the same team.
If there were a merger, it wouldn’t be the first time Disney has sought to combine its network and studio operations. The two units were combined in 1999, but ultimately were separated after Mr. McPherson left the studio to run ABC Entertainment.
Looks like the CBS Comedies had their best performances of the season. Even with preemption these are still the highest numbers of the season for each show. The weak link remains Worst Program. That program needs to go immediately. Horrible retention every week and it hurts the Miami ratings from hanging around 15-16 million viewers.
The 16 million for Men was amazing and its sad CBS didn't schedule an extra weeks worth of new episodes. BBT & HIMYM ratings were huge and the demos. BBT is getting very close to 11 million viewers. No excuse NBC's numbers are unacceptable on Thursdays and they should be getting these type of numbers week in and week out. Just proves multi-cams are more watchable for casual viewers.
NBC's Monday Night schedule could've been past on and needs to change completely for mid-season. There's no need to put Heroes on Mondays at 9pm anymore if its going to struggle like this. They should give Heroes a better lead-in b/c the show is still worth keeping around with those demos. MOWE is a great show, but nobody watched it.
The Jay Leno thing at 10pm is not going to work and I hope it doesn't work. NBC made a soft ass coward move to avoid competing at 10pm so now they're going to go all CW and FOX on us with a two hour slate. I hope CBS and ABC keep their 10pm hours as it should be easier to get audiences now in those hours. 10pm is usually the procedural hour and LAPD should've had a 10pm slot. I also wanted Jay Leno to go to FOX or ABC to compete with Conan b/c Conan shouldn't be on that early. His show is better after 12am and is going to be unwatchable come September. NBC can't have all these talk shows all night long. That's saturation! NBC made one of the worst moves in TV history although I do expect the ratings be high at times for big celebrity appearances. The whole point of a late show is to be on after the news.
FOX is stabilizing which is important, but with both shows moving and ending it really doesn't matter at this point. I'm worried for T:SCC against Smackdown on fellow MyNetworkTV. PB is having an awesome season as I got a chance to see the last few episodes and its the best its been since season one. Those viewers that left PB have missed some pretty good stuff. I think PB should end by season's end and spawn off two spin-offs. One back to prison full-time and the other on MyNetworkTV featuring the women's prison. JAIL and PB could make a pretty good combo there.
The CW is not worth talking about anymore and GG only getting 3 million viewers for a hit is a big laugh. Wish it was on a real network so that it could've got canceled hard. Not NBC or CW! LOL!
ABC's Charlie Brown performance was really good. ABC has got to find something that attracts the 2-11 demo full-time. Great way for BL to go out as the show deserves it.
A Drama Legend Will Be Gone With David E. Kelly's Boston Legal leaving the air next Monday were going to be losing one of the best sharply written dramas of all-time. I feel like BL is a tie with The Practice so for the first time since Tuesday March 4, 1997 ABC won't have that Emmy awarding legal franchise, which is my favorite legal drama of all-time even though Judging Amy and Perry Mason are right up there too. From Lara Flynn Boyle to William Shatner are losing about 12 years of history here and most of us welcomed it into our home at least one time. Sad to see it go, but it is the time to let it sleep and maybe down the line make a full-fledged remake comeback. The New England legal franchise will leave us next Monday, but for some of us we will never forget it. This is BlueLick signing off a piece of genius American history that is The Practice/Boston Legal. Next up ER in March, good writing is sliding away from us.
That's always been the case with CBS' St. Louis affiliate, since the network sold it in 1986, to fend off Ted Turner's takeover attempt. At one time, KMOV was preempting about 100 hours of CBS programming a year in prime-time. The number's probably come down a bit since then.
I don't think a St. Louis and Columbus pre-emption wouldn't hurt all that much given the size of those markets. But if it were Washington D.C. and Atlanta - the largest affiliates outside of the O&Os... that's a problem.

Unfortunatley the ratings may be tired for PRISON BREAK but creativly if you check message boars like TWOP its one of the most popular seasons since Season One.
And no series on prime time does cliffhangers before commercials like PRISON BREAK...no one!
That's actually not even true. Prison Break used to get 20+ pages of discussion on TWOP in Season Two (and even more during Season One). Now it's getting... 7 pages at best. So, don't talk about it being popular these days... it's never been this unpopular (at least not on TWOP).
For the 11th episode of Prison Break's 4th season, TWOP had 5 pages of discussion. Compare that to Lost's 11th episode of it's 4th season, which got 44 pages of discussion. That tells a story!
Okay, I know this is stupid, but I HHHHHHHHHHATE this season of Prison Break (have hated the show since it got shitty midway to Season Two) and I can't stand people calling it good. I always have to go out of my way to prove that it SUCKS.
Online popularity has nothing to do with quality or good ratings. Supernatural has between 30 to 50 pages after every episode on TWOP. And while I really like it, it doesn't mean it's the best show on tv. It only means that many people like to discuss it. I really like this season of Prison Break, but online posting has nothing to do with it.
I agree. Look at Lost, as it's probably more posted about online than ever, even though it has pissed away half its season 1 audience. Exactly the same for Heroes.
Pushing Daisies fans are overrunning every other site posting their conceited little hearts out, hard to argue it's eithr successul or any good.
Personally I love NCIS and Criminal Minds and besides admitting to that here, I never post about it online, BECAUSE they are popular. My family discusses these shows over dinner, my friends and university all know that Ziva SO loves Tony, even my grandmother likes to look at Dharma's husband. No need to seek out some nerds online.
Those markets are # 21 and # 32. Not the biggest, but not small either. There were some other small market preemptions, too. They look for a half hour 8:00 show to preempt so they do not have to preempt a full hour so BBT gets the preemption. BBT fell in the finals 400,000 last week and 300,000 this week. The other sitcoms did not fall much if at all. The 8:00 preemption is affecting it. This show would be approaching the 11 million mark if it was not for the preemptions.

Good point - I forgot that KMOV and WBNS are some of CBS' strongest affiliates.
KMOV aired "Sharing for Kids",a charity-for- children special at 7 p.m. (CT) that could have run at 6:30 p.m. But I guess KMOV didn't want to anger those "ET" fans who need their daily dose of celebrity gossip... or interrupt the flow of revenue they get from running it.

I will say that L&O CI will probably survive for a while on USA. Its main cast is composed of only 3 regulars (2 of which switch every other episode and so I don't think its as expensive to produce and what not.) It gives a good lead in to its new series and ratings are pretty good now At least 4 million sometimes 5. Chuck I think would be a nice addition to USA slate of original programming.
