The Big Bang Theory (CBS) – 8 p.m.
Viewers: 10.80 million (#2), A18-49: 3.7/10 (#2)

How I Met Your Mother (CBS)
Viewers: 10.48 million (#2), A18-49: 4.2/11 (#1)

NBC wouldnt need to restructure if they made comedies like the ones on CBS. Okay, maybe they would, but it's one less thing they would of had to worry about. BTW, great job CBS for airing all your great comedies (not Worst Week)

Shows that are safe next year on NBC IMO:
*Law and Order: SVU
*The Biggest Loser
*The Office
*30 Rock (NBC needs to get over this show)
*Deal or No Deal
*Medium
*Dateline
*America's Got Talent (Summer)

Bubble:
*Law and Order
*Heroes
*Life
*My Name is Earl

Cancelled:
*All shows that were already announced
*Kath and Kim
*Knight Rider
*Chuck

PB would have been great with 1 1/2 season. The UK model of short series would have been perfect for this show, it was ruined during the season 2 silliness.

MSNBC was talking about Jay Leno at 10pm. Then they had a clip from him saying why he chose to do it. Jay's response was because it made sense and something else I didnt catch.

But AFTER I brought it up, you couldn't resist going on about how much better it could do than the much more successful FOX genre show you hate. I provided the straw, but you actually stuffed it into the same old worn-out clothes. Big Grin

You said it was insane that NBC continues to air MOWE, in spite of the horrible ratings. And I simply asked how it was less insane for FOX to continue producing new episodes of a show that gets basically the same ratings, and will get even lower ratings when they move it to Friday. That's not a straw man argument. That's what is known as a 'salient point'. Wink

quote:
Huh no, Fringe doesn't hurt House because of it is the lead-out (though it sure doesn't help it either). But keeping Fringe there forces FOX to move its only hit drama to three different timeslots in less than a year, and it is down almost 5 million since last year.

And it couldn't be some people are just getting tired of House? Desperate Housewives has kept its timeslot, and it still loses audience year after year. In any event, we've been over this--they can't keep House on forever, because they can't replace the lead, and the lead won't stay on indefinitely. So they had to gamble. But if Fringe was a bad gamble, they can cancel it. I promise not to send them any fringed garments in protest. What are you planning to send FOX when SCC goes down? Big Grin

The rule of thumb for you seems to be "If I like the show, it can only be the network's fault that the ratings are down. If I hate the show, it can only be the show's fault that the ratings are down."

At least you're consistent about that.

Wink

I hope so too. I'm really disappointed that it didn't get the post SB slot. Most people (that I've observed) don't actually watch the show that comes on afterward. They are talking, partying, getting ready to go home etc. They do look at it though. You want something to grab the attention of those hot-blooded male football fans who have been too busy to notice what else was on, or those women who will be missing the crazy costumes and handsome men from DWTS on Monday nights.

Here are your choices. The Office...

Hmmmm. I know which show I would have tried to grow an audience for.

Welcome to pisherworld, Remus. Cool

And what a beautiful world it is to live in! ;D

And yeah, himymfan, pisher makes me smile on a regular basis, I always enjoy reading his posts. He's always slighty playful, perfectly provocative, makes GOOD arguments and never fails to make an excellent counter-attack when he's being attacked by some of the more serious members on this board.

Besides, I tend to agree with him a lot. Keep it up, pisher, don't let these prudes get you down! Wink

As I'm posting on a message board, nobody knows who I am and nobody can see my face, so I can get all cyrupy-sweety when I'm complimenting someone (in this case, pisher). So feel free to cringe at this sugary gushing, people, see if I care. Smiler

Pisher thinks that pretty much every network show should be canceled, especially the new ones. Since about 70% of series don't get a second season, pisher can then claim 'victory', so in that sense he makes valid arguements.

Of course it is not enough to satisfy his ego, so he has to imagine that some people here claim shows like SCC or MOWE are actually hits and should be saved by online petitions, although nobody made that argument (in this thread at least).

So what do you think of ABC's strategy to throw a special episode of Wipeout during halftime of the Super Bowl, and then a new episode after the game? I think it's a smart move..similar to what NBC did with Fear Factor a few years back (but since it's more family friendly, Wipeout will have cheerleaders and couch potatoes as contestants instead of Playmates).

And even spells the word 'argument' correctly. Wink

No, not in this thread. In many previous threads. But not anymore. Even SCC's diehard fans have given up on it, while it's still producing new eps. And that's all I wanted to hear. G'night.

If I was programming a network, I would put a show on after the Super bowl that was a great show but people haven't sampled it yet. I thought House was a poor choice for Fox (maybe after its first season but not after it was a top 5 show), everyone had seen the show.

I would put on a show that everyone at the network thought "if we could just get people to try the show, we know they'd keep coming back". Office is an ok choice, Chuck would probably be better unless they gambled with Friday Night Lights but that ship probably sailed.

30 Rock really? 6th highest rated scripted show on NBC, 4th in the demo? I don't really see the logic in NBC cancelling 30 Rock in their current state. Also, it's one of NBC's only improving shows. (This week, it was up 33% in viewers (5.4<7.2) and 26% in the demo (2.7<3.4) from the same week in 2007.)

Boston Legal was AMAZING last night - the entire 2 hours, I couldn't believe the show was ending on such a high note. I'm already putting it as one of the greatest series finales every - there was not one thing bad about it. I'm still wondering why ABC ended it - consistent 8-9 million all season, and their highest rated 10pm drama.

BBT continues to amaze - never would have expected it to reach 10 million so quickly, but now it can easily outshine that.

As to the NBC thing, what in the world are they thinking? Ben Silverman is singlehandedly ruining the network. I love Jay Leno, and I know I'll be watching his show near daily, but this is just insane, even with the money troubles.

I think, though, a lot of shows will be safe. You can bet My Name is Early, Kath and Kim, Knight Rider, Life, and Chuck are goners, though. Even Heroes will most likely rest after this season - with the shows budget, how is it even making money for the network anymore? I think Law and Order and Medium will be back next season, though, most likely in the fall. Both are still winners for the network.

Mushu must be looking at last season's 30 Rock ratings. Law & Order might move to USA to join Criminal Intent. The show skews too old to justify keeping on NBC (Even Chuck, Earl and the godawful Kath & Kim is higher in the demo.)
