Just an FYI...
Dave Annable will be returning to B&S.
And yes, very good premiere.

Thanks. I thought I heard somwhere else that he would be, but I wasn't sure.

DH got a 12.0/18 B&S got 8.8/14
Other than the season to season loses, which seem to be happening all over the place...are these good numbers? No clue what they translate to in millions of viewers. I am sure the demo was high, as usual for both shows.

quote: How do you know this? Were the ratings for DH bad last night?
Marc's Programming Insider report is up at Mediaweek--DH was down 24% from last season's premiere, as I said. It still ruled the timeslot, but that's a big drop. And knowing Fillion, it's not done dropping yet.

I knew it would drop, but let's face it. Add in DVR increases and it was probably more like a 12% drop. If CBS can claim that DVR's are hurting their bland and often older skewing procedurals, then I'm sure they're hurting serialized shows as well that require tune in week after week. Still, ABC should be happy seeing that they have given Housewives about zilch in promotion this week. quote: Originally posted by pisher: quote: How do you know this? They're not terrible. With DVR's included they won't look as bad, but they still lost viewers which is never good. Were CBS's numbers up from last week's low rated premieres? quote: Originally posted by nyctvdramaqueen: DH got a 12.0/18 B&S got 8.8/14

DVR's main purpose these days seems to be to excuse ratings losses. It's a big freakin' drop, and this is not a show that should need a lot of promotion at this point. A lot of people saw Fillion's face, and said to themselves "There goes the neighborhood." I'm sure there were other reasons, but that was the big one. The new characters are not going to catch on. (And I like Dana Delany, but not in this type of role). Get Fillion out of Wisteria Lane, ABC--ASAP.

Its a drop, but people weren't freaking out when CBS's Sunday shows debuted much lower last week. In fact, CBS had been using DVRs as an excuse in all their press releases this week, which to me is a joke, but probably has some truth behind it. The networks as a whole are losing live viewers, but the fans are still here. quote: Originally posted by pisher: DVR's main purpose these days seems to be to excuse ratings losses. Considering it looked like Grey's lost a lot more viewers than it actually did in the overnights (26% drop in overnights vs. 18% drop in total viewers), DH still probably topped 19 million viewers, higher than anything it got after the new year. Again, I think we have to now consider not how much is it down from last fall but how much is it down from last spring.

DH ended last season with 18.44 million viewers. I'm guessing last night will be similar to that, maybe off by 5-10%.

Pretty good retention for Brothers & Sisters. The numbers themselves are going to be down from last season's premieres. quote: Originally posted by mushu_jj: They're not terrible. Oh, I didn't mean I wasn't optimistic about it. But I also wonder if a Lost-ish premiere rating is entirely out of the question, given the buzz, promotion, and critical acclaim (and, that's Lost's premiere timeslot even if DVR has changed the landscape a "tad" ). If ABC got Betty numbers I think that would be an accomplishment, as well (since that's 15 million viewers and a 5 in the demo, or more viewers than established-brand PP got and just about the same demo). quote: Originally posted by mushu_jj: I agree. I think if Pushing Daisies can at least become an Ugly Betty level performer, it will be seen as a success. Much like Betty, there is really nothing at all like this. I'm still optimistic. quote: Originally posted by Obveeus: quote: Originally posted by TravisYanan: But, in any case, PD is the only series this season with such a huge marketing push and nearly universal critical acclaim. It kind of has no choice but to open big (or flop completely). Not a lot of in-between. Here's hoping for big returns!
I agree that Pushing Daisies will have to prop up the whole night for ABC to some degree. However, the 'open big' has to be mitigated by the HUT levels at 8pm. I don't think it is realistic to expect Pushing Daisies to outperform Private Practice in the ratings.
