-Ratings Breakdown:
Chalk up another Thursday victory for CBS, which finished first in both total viewers and adults 18-49 with its combination of an amazing episode of Survivor: Gabon (Viewers: #1, 12.62 million; A18-49: #1, 4.0 rating/11 share), CSI (Viewers: #1 for the evening, 18.43 million; A18-49: #2, 4.9/12) and Eleventh Hour (Viewers: #1, 10.67 million; A18-49: #2, 2.8/ 8), which continues to squander the lead-in support from CSI. Compared to the second half of CSI (Viewers: 18.66 million; A18-49: 5.0/12 at 9:30 p.m.), retention for Eleventh Hour was only 57 percent in total viewers and 56 percent among adults 18-49. And it dipped by 1.12 million viewers (11.23 to 10.11 million) and seven percent among adults 18-49 (2.9/ 8 to 2.7/ 8) in the second half hour. As for Survivor, Randy being totally duped last night was one of the greatest moments in the history of the show.
ABC, as usual, finished second overall on Thursday care of Ugly Betty (Viewers: #2, 8.29 million; A18-49: #2t, 2.5/ 7), Grey’s Anatomy (Viewers: #2, 15.74 million; A18-49: #1 for the evening: 6.1/15), and Life on Mars (Viewers: #3, 7.97 million; A18-49: #3, 2.5/ 7), which is officially moving to Wednesday at 10 p.m. (out of Lost) on Jan. 28.
Next was NBC with its line-up of tired My Name is Earl (Viewers: #3, 6.75 million; A18-49: #2, 2.6/ 7), inane Kath & Kim (Viewers: #3, 5.47 million; A18-49: #3, 2.3/ 6), always demographically reliable The Office (Viewers: #3, 8.40 million; A18-49: #4, 4.3/10), compatible 30 Rock (Viewers: #3, 7.29 million; A18-49: #3, 3.5/ 8), and soon-to-conclude ER (Viewers: #2, 9.15 million; A18-49: #1, 3.5/ 8). Considering NBC’s massive woes elsewhere, it’s really too bad veteran ER is ending this season. As for 30 Rock, did anyone really enjoy last night’s episode? It was awful!
Fox had another uneventful Thursday as a result of two episodes (original and repeat) of Kitchen Nightmares, which averaged 4.46 million viewers (#4) and an also fourth-place 1.9/ 5 among adults 18-49 from 8-10 p.m. And the CW capped off the evening with aging Smallville (Viewers: #4, 4.77 million; A18-49: #5, 1.9/ 5) and companion Supernatural (Viewers: #5, 4.03 million; A18-49: #5, 1.6/ 4). Although the future of Smallville beyond this season is a question mark, there is every reason to believe Supernatural will be back. As for Fox, don’t forget that relocated Bones and returning Hell’s Kitchen will populate Thursday effective in first quarter.
