I think that, at this time, even an episode that's wildly popular on iTunes doesn't make nearly the same in revenue as the same episode makes from advertisers during a network airing.

But if you pull the shows from itunes (NBC) and put them on your own website (NBC.com) you can show them for free with ads that can't be fast-forwarded through and you have less expenses (residuals). This is the reason for the current writer's strike. It's also why SAG is aligned with the wga, and why the DGA is getting nowhere in their negotiations

Too bad he didn't type "50 Rock" because a sitcom set in a bank could work.

(Actually, from experience, it wouldn't.)

How about 5th 3rd Rock? A show set in a bank located on the 15th planet from the sun. That is where the show belongs. Wink

Big Shots ratings are lower than ever. Cashmiere Mafia is a bit higher, but both are still dropping and both are below the acceptable level for ABC. Without the WGA strike, they would be gone already.

With this trend favoring returning shows, how do you guys think Jericho will fare? I believe it will be surprisingly strong. Is CBS putting it back on Wednesdays? I seem to recall a schedule that had it Tuesdays @ 10pm but don't remember if that was final.

I believe Tuesdays 10pm is the timeslot starting some time in February. I do not expect Jericho to do well.

Jericho starts Tuesday February 12th at 10pm, with Big Brother at 9pm.

In my opinion, Jericho is going to be a disaster for CBS. I don't believe il will be strong like the first part of season 1. 7-8 million I think.

Definitely SVU will be in repeats so that should bode well for Jericho. I disagree with Obveus, I think it will rebound to somewhere around 9-10 million viewers, which CBS would be ecstatic to have on Tuesday @ 10pm at any time, but especially during the strike.

At 10pm Against CBS’ Time Period Veteran “CSI: NY” and NBC’s “Law & Order,” ABC’s Time Period Premiere of “Cashmere Mafia” Ranks No. 1 in Women 18-34

I found it to be okay and it kept my interest, but I feel like it's missing something.

Yeah, a pulse. Darren Star's done better shows before. Come to think of it, he did this show before.

"Better Off Ted," Wednesdays at some time or another at some point or another in the near future. Because we can't all live in mansions and not ever work like the people on "Modern Family."

Mafia

I just watched the Pilot of CM, and actually really enjoyed it, much more than the Pilot of Lipstick Jungle -- I haven't seen the new one. The ending of CM had me smiling, the end of LJ had me depressed. It's a shame that CM is doing so poorly, but with the strike, I'll stick with it and at least watch all the eps they've done that will likely air now.

Instead, the old people using TV will slowly die off and computers will become more of the 'norm' for most everyone that is left.
Television will not die as a broadcasting medium. The popularity of internet streaming can be attributed to the flexible scheduling, since the viewers can choose when to watch and fit the viewing into their own schedule. Network broadcasting is the opposite and the viewers need to make time in their schedule to watch the shows. With the work demands and social obligations in the recent age, it becomes increasingly harder for viewers to make time for appointment television. I meant that given the choice to view a show on the big screen v. small screen, it seems that viewers would be more inclined to watch shows on the television screen rather than the computer screen.

Long term, having an online presence for entertainment distribution is extremely important because the future of 'TV' is going to look a whole lot closer to the internet model than the broadcast model. Most people will watch 'on demand' and choose their shows from specific company providers. This future is at the heart of the current WGA strike.
Television viewing is shifting towards a flexible viewing rather than rigid viewing. And it just so coincides that online streaming allows for a flexible viewing rather a rigid viewing. People watch 'on demand' to fit television viewing into their own schedules.
