I just have to say, again, GG did NOT dissapoint. Another great episode (man can Leigton Meester and Ed Westwick act).

It's perfectly reasonable to compare the shows, especially since GG is in OTH's old time slot from last year (where it performed better on average). OTH will certainly falter next week against Idol (probably to the 2 mill range), but to compare the premiere episodes, OTH's numbers are more impressive since it had no lead in and GG had the highest rated show on the net.

"Nuanced" has it right: The spin on Gossip Girl was that it needed time to build an audience. And it hasn't. If the season finale/very special episode pulls in 2.35 million, that's definitely not a good sign.

What did you think of Criminal Minds last night?

last nights criminal minds was fantastic!!! that ending was "to die for"...

Yep the ending was amazing and so was the whole ep. But it looks like us 2 are the only once that saw it on this board. They missed an incredible ep. This show is the 2nd best show on TV. Best show goes to Dexter(showtime) Smiler

Since then, the show has averaged in and around 2.5 million viewers.

I thought that one of the justifications for keeping this show on air was that it needed time to build an audience. Somewhat dubious spin in my opinion.

So how, after 13 episodes, does 2.35 million look good? And as someone pointed out earlier, it is no great shakes to say GG grew out of Crowned.

You can't talk about GG's ratings without taking into account the fact that it's the #1 most downloaded television series on iTunes, and each episode is constantly illegally uploaded to YouTube by several different users. The internet has shown to have had a great impact on television when it comes to teenage viewership.

Not making excuses, but there is definitely factors

I agree. The school lies episode was only up for a day and half (before taken down) and it already was the number 4 MOST VIEWED clip on youtube!! In less than a week Victor/Victrola had over 200 000 hits and was one of the most viewed, discussed, etc clips on youtube. No wonder the largest increase in ratings was from Victor/Victrola to Seventeen Candles.

It continues to be number 1 on itunes. True VM did good on itunes..but NOT THIS GOOD. GG already beat the number 1 most downloaded show on itunes which used to be The Office.

And GG does really good with DVR ratings.

The thing is teens DONT WATCH LIVE. I'm 21, its probably been over 2 years since I watched any of my shows live. Everyhing is PVR'd (I don't live in US...but for GG I would watch it live Smiler.

And GG isnt a crappy show. Its suprisingly good and actually has some great actors (Ed Westwick, Leigton Meester), it even got good critics reviews, and everyone's talking about it. It is popular in highschools, I've gotten so many ppl addicted to this show (ppl that don't really watch these types of shows either). I just don't understand why its not translating into live viewership.

Also, it is incorrectly stated above that Gossip girl started with 3.25 million viewers. In fact it started with 3.67 million viewers.

I did notice, that GG was on a role till the thankgiving episode. We were finally just about to reach 3 million viewers and then CW started showing episodes every TWO WEEKS. I think that thanksgiving episode was a turning point. Alot of ppl loved the CB drama, ratings were increasing...and then we have the thanksgiving episode (still great episode, had almost 3 million viewers..but it didn't have the drama (no CB) the other episodes had...

It started with 3.67 million viewers with that wonderful lead-in ANTM.. hey OTH even reached 4.20 million viewers with that lead-in, I doubt they could do it without it, same goes for GG. I hate to bring it up but I'd love to see how Gossip Girls would do with AI as competition. The numbers Gossip Girls are getting now is the same numbers OTH gets with American Idol. Is that why they are moving GG to Mondays?

A Team is being remade as a film with John Singleton directing. It's just a short leap from there back to the small screen
From the initial ratings, people did want to see Bionic Woman again, they just didn't ike what NBC came up with. A-Team would be a great pairing with American Gladiators. NBC can slowly change over from being the 'quality' network to being the 'garbage' network. Maybe they can even remake BJ and the Bear and Sheriff Lobo? Wink

To be fair, the episode wasn't actually a 'season finale', it was just the final episode of the season. Thanks to the WGA strike, there is a difference.

All this huffing and puffing by OTH fans started simply because Marc pointed out that Gossip Girl had its strongest Nielsen performance in weeks. There really is no reason for the OTH fans to have gone on the attack. All that will result is a counter attack when OTH ratings drop next week.

As far as Lipstick Jungle goes, I wouldn't write it off just yet, after all, it's on NBC. The way things are going for them, it'll be a hit.

I would understand your point if ABC was planning a different Tuesday schedule in the coming weeks, but it does not. That 2-hour "comedy" block will be the lead-in for Boston Legal for the foreseeable future. ABC didn't save BL -- it just delayed the hurt a week. And starting next week, American Idol is added to the mix...

Well, at least it won't go up againt a new SVU, and I think there are four new episodes left, so if they stretch them out enough they could get at least the last two on after DWTS comes back. That's what they should do...hold them all until DWTS comes back.

No there is going to be 1 more episode that was written before the strike:
Limelight
First aired: 1/23/2008 Production Code: 312

After the contents of a self-storage unit purchased at an auction take the BAU to Philadelphia to investigate a series of murders, the local agent becomes the center of the case. To catch the killer, the team must profile the items inside the unit.

Also of course it will be back for a 4th season with those ratings Wink Smiler

I agree too. I like it when an ending is not "predictable", from time to time.

Gossip girl may not be doing that great in America, but its doing pretty good in other Countries (However in teh end of the day, its US ratings that matter Frowner ) I know it opened on Australia cable, at the highest ratings they ever got.

In fact, in Canada, there are a greater PROPORTION Canadians watching the show than Americans (based on population: Usa (300 mil) and Canada (30 mil) at a WORSE time slot (7PM). Grey's Anatomy, House which get the highest ratings in Canada get about 2.5-3 million viewers. In October, Gossip girl was getting almost a million viewers. For a 7PM time slot, thats pretty good. Plus private practice (ugh..new hit for CTV) was only getting about 1.4 million viewers.

Plus on CTV broadband, Gossip girl was by far the most watched show online. This show is a hit online, by far, beating all other shows. What it needs is to transfer those online viewers to live ratings.

No, Gossip Girl is doing just as bad in Canada, but the exchange rate just makes it look better. Wink
