The averages after the first four days of Week 21:

fox	viewers	15.368
fox	demo	6.3
nbc	viewers	9.472
nbc	demo	3.2
cbs	viewers	8.898
cbs	demo	2.63
abc	viewers	6.958
abc	demo	2.38
cw	viewers	2.170
cw	demo	0.93
mnt*	viewers	1.399
mnt*	demo	0.53

* MyNetworkTV first three nights only.

MyNetworkTV has been having a competitive week vis-a-vis The CW, having tied them for demo on Monday and having beaten them for viewers on Wednesday.

Lost was down, but the story for ABC on Thursday this week was the absolute collapse of Eli Stone. Granted, it had three minutes of Lost overrun so finals will have a lower average and the 10:30pm drop will be less pronounced... but it dropped 2 million viewers and from a 3.2 to a 2.3 in the demo. This is WEEK THREE. ABC can't really leave this thing on for all 13 episodes, can they? I mean... put Pushing Daisies repeats there or SOMETHING that's going to be on next season.

Have you seen the numbers October Road and Cashmere Mafia are getting? Yes, I think ABC can really leave Eli Stone there until they get new episodes of their regular shows.

Cashmere isn't dropping a huge lead-in the way ES is, and Cashmere only has one episode left to air (even though it has two in the can... they aren't going to be airing the last produced one as far as I've been told). And October Road isn't a new show (and is building on its lead-in in the demo... though, not saying much...)

They can't just ax everything because they don't have the material to fill those holes, and I get that... but ES is WASTING the Lost lead-in, and it's only been on the air for 15 days.

Sorry, pisher, I tried to tell him you're just sarcastic, but as you know, everybody here barely notices what I say.

See Chimera! This is exactly what I'm talking about!

Thanks for the demonstration, Riff.

And it should be noted that I didn't find the "back of the bus" comment the least bit racist. As we all know, people are only racist when they call two people of the same race -- say, Shonda Rhimes and Isaiah Washington -- stupid.

Guys, far be it from me to defend pisher since I'm pretty sure he can take care of himself, but there's enough legitimate complaints to have without having to make ones up. It was obviously an acronym for whatsonpop's username. A search confirms no previous matches for "whatsonpop" and "Italian." Unless you think pisher's real job is as Miss Cleo.

"Call me now fer yer free racist slurs!"

Hey Pisher...I will NOT tolerate any ethnic slurs here. This is a place for fun and educated comments about TV...not offensive name calling.

Have I summed that up accurately?

I think ABC is convinced (right or wrong) that pretty much anything will loose the Lost lead-in. That's part of the reason they moved it to 10 last year and why they are moving it to 10 again when Grey's comes back (rather than Wed. at 9). If ES falls to 5 million, I can see them pulling it. Otherwise, there's no reason to think that reruns would do much better.

I also do not think pisher was being intentionally offensive with either of his remarks. Holly has interpreted his actions correctly...a sloppy attempt at abbreviation and an attempt to be sarcastic at someone's marginalizing comments concerning the NAACP awards program.

What I do take great objection to, and I have complained to Marc but the post still remains, is the objectionable, vile comment (which I will not repeat or quote) that lost_dom directed towards pisher near the end of Wednesdays ratings discussion.

I felt offended for pisher that he or anyone should be on the receiving end of a comment like that, and that is where an apology or corrective action is called for.

You mean the remark about my mother performing fellatio in hades?

Quite honestly, I'd forgotten about that.

Quite honestly, I have a hard time taking anything anybody says here seriously.

Myself very much included.

Marc, you should check the Wed. forum. There is a comment there by another poster directed towards Pisher that is completely out of line.

Peace!!

I would be disappointed to hear you say otherwise, Marc. I'm not guilty of any slurs, ethnic or otherwise, but you don't have time to go through all the posts. Just take my word for it--no slur was intended. And I will studiously avoid any opportunity for people to intentionally misconstrue my words in that way.

In other words, I'm sorry I've put you to the trouble of making an obligatory condemnation of something that didn't happen.

Btw, Lost Dom said my mother sucks dick in hell at the end of yesterday's thread.

I guess nobody reported that?

Oh well, no reason anyone should.

I think you're absolutely right that ABC is convinced anything will loose the Lost lead-in. So why put original programming there now? Why not remind audience members of a show like Pushing Daisies (or PP or DSM... but I think PD may be a better fit post-Lost than those other two) that *is* going to be back next season? It's low-cost rerun programming... and it would help a freshman show (in the long-term) that the network seems to be invested in. Eli Stone has stumbled. All 13 episodes have already been produced, so the network can choose to air them, sure... but with such low returns, why *waste this time-slot*?

October Road will be out of originals soon and I think The Bachelor is replacing it. Cashmere Mafia is being replaced by Men In Trees. There has to be somewhere else on the schedule for Eli Stone to go. I mean... would it work Thursdays at 8pm leading into Lost? Tuesdays at 10pm when BL runs out of originals?

I understand not canceling stuff earlier this season outright (Big Shots certainly did worse, comparatively, than Eli Stone in this time period but was left on because of the strike). But there are (plenty of) times when I just don't understand what the networks are thinking with their scheduling.

It's a quote from "The Exorcist." Maybe you'd have preferred he give pisher the cleaned-up-for-broadcast-TV version?

YOUR MOTHER SEWS SOCKS THAT SMELL!

There, it's all family friendly now.

Not true. I reported it.

It is offensive and should be removed.

Marc, again--I'm sorry you've been put to any trouble, and I'll refrain from posting the next few days, so people can cool down. But the only slurs people were getting offended by here were directed at TV shows and their ratings.

Oh, and I may also have made some remarks about spelling and grammar that were not well received. Roll Eyes

Have a great weekend, everyone. And I do mean everyone. I am nothing if not forgiving. Smiler

Okay, one more thing.

I was not remotely offended by the comment Lost Dom made about my mother. It was taken in the spirit of raucous (and slightly cliche) ribaldry it was intended in. And it gave me a great set-up to squash Dom flat, anyway.

So while Marc has every right to clean up the board as he sees fit, I want it made very clear that I'm not complaining about anyone's remarks.

I'd be sucking dick in hell about a gazillion years for that level of hypocrisy.
