Well, ESPN does stand for the "Extremely Sensationalized Programming Network". quote: Originally posted by wenart25: quote: Originally posted by mushu_jj: Well x, you were right. Don Imus has been fired by CBS Radio. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/04/12/national/main2675273.shtml
Ok...that is just complete and utter BS if you ask me. I swear there is such a double standard out there. Anytime someone, say a white person, does lets say an "insert foot in mouth" comment and it pretains to an African American, the NAACP jumps all over it and then Jackson and Sharpton jump in. But lets say a rapper continue to degrade females and others in their music..call them Ho's, B****hes, and other things, but nothing is done? Does that sound right? Imus apologized for his comment and he has been like this for thirty years. What in the world are Jackson and Sharpton trying to prove, other then stepping into something and trying to force their hand into it? I just do not get it. I don't! I feel like there was not need for the basketball players to hold a press conference. They should have just met with him in private and talk to him then. Please do not get me wrong about this....I do not think what he said was right at all, it was awful. My question is, why in the world is the NAACP, Jackson, and Sharpton trying to prove? And the news stations went over board playing and talking about this story. I mean how many times are they going to be talking about this? It is almost like the "Michael Richards" incident, which was talked about for weeks. Is there nothing more pressing going on in the world than Imus and his comments? Peace!!!

Marc-
How much of the "Grey's clip-show" lead-in does "Notes" need to retain to be considered a winner? What would be "good" premier ratings?

Yup. Poor white men can get nowhere in this country - it's all NAACP all the time. Oh, the humanity!

1) Medium: Consistently one of the best shows on TV. I think it should be commended for averaging north of a 2.5 18-49 with the awful lead-in it has and the competition of Lost and CSI: New York. Imagine what it would get on another night. Let's hope NBC moves it somewhere next year (might we once again suggest Monday at 10pm)?
2) Lost: I loved the first season, lost interest a bit in the second season - and thought the first part of this season was absolutely unwatchable.
However, since they've gone back to focusing on the core characters, we've seen a huge improvement. The show is beginning to get back on track. Let's hope they don't mess it up again.
3) Jericho: This is a tremendous show. It needs to stay on. CBS did make a MAJOR blunder placing it on hiatus, and then relaunching it against Death Idol.
Problem is, that network has no patience and they have great shows in development.
Marc - do you know what the average age of Jericho is versus the procedurals? I bet it's younger. It also probably delivers a pretty good percentage of 18-49s. I think it would be a very good show for another network (hello ABC, NBC).
This is bold - and I know it wouldn't happen - but it would be great to see ABC pick it up if CBS cancels it and bring it back and pair it with Lost on Wednesday night. What a great tandem Lost and Jericho would be!!
In regards to "Medium", consider this: the series probably could be considered to have saved the Wed. 10pm timeslot for NBC this season. The network could have had a Monday-10pm style disaster there for the season, but "Medium" saved it from becoming the worst weeknight hour for the net, particularly considering Wed. has become the net's toughest night to program. (PLEASE, NBC, don't go scheduling "Biggest Loser" during the regular season again! Leave it for the summer!) "Medium" usually averages around or a little above the net average for the week and builds from its lead-in regularly. Also, there has been serious talk at both ABC and CBS about moving the series they currently have in this time period ("Lost" and "CSI: New York"). It might actually be good for NBC to leave it here, and find a better lead-in program for it in the fall. "Medium" would then become the time-period veteran and go up against two freshmen series.
I believe "Biggest Loser" was scheduled in the 8pm Wed. slot through most of its fall run, and only occupied the 9 pm slot toward the end of its season, when it's ratings are higher. I believe NBC sees this also, as they have just announced that "Loser" is going to premiere during the later part of the summer for its next run, with the later part of its season (the higher rated part) running into the new season, or just up to it. The series scored decent demos toward the end of its season, but otherwise does better during the summer, when its modest ratings are a greater strength for the network. It would also probably run best paired with other reality programming, as the net has had trouble finding compatible programs to run with it.

NBC just announced that? Where? Also, the Biggest Loser aired at 9pm all last fall as NBC switched it with 30 Rock and 20 Good Years right after they announced the fall lineup last year. Also, in season two, the Biggest Loser did very well as a Tuesday 8pm series where it regularly scored over a 4 18-49. Last season in airing against both Lost and Criminal Minds, it averaged over a 3 18-49. That's better than what Medium is pulling now against Lost and CSI:NY and those two shows are not at the strength they were in the fall. quote: Originally posted by Paul LeBel: quote: Originally posted by mushu_jj: The Biggest Loser's ratings were better than Mediums and that against Lost and Criminal Minds in the fall when they were both stronger. quote: Originally posted by Paul LeBel: quote: Originally posted by Anthony: I want to address three Wednesday night shows:

While I understand the firing, I admit I will miss the show which I watched regularly, via DVR, on MSNBC. It was just such an odd and eclectic mix. The school yard humor went way too far at times (this incident was far from the worst I have heard on this program) but the guests Imus had on and the discussions were very interesting and, franky, more informative than you find in the glib and superficial morning news programs on other networks. However, with this odd mix came risk -- for the host and his respected guests. Imus tried to walk the fine line and, in the end, he simply could not do it. NBC and CBS made the only decision they could. quote: Originally posted by wenart25: quote: Originally posted by mushu_jj: Well x, you were right. Okay so here's the link to I assume what talking about: http://www.thefutoncritic.com/news.aspx?id=20070412nbc01Personally, I doubt it launches in late summer. NBC has said that in the past, only to launch it in mid-September (a week or two before the new season starts). quote: Originally posted by mushu_jj: NBC just announced that? Where?
