-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS and ABC tied for the top-rated spot on this third Sunday in April, with CBS the most-watched network and ABC No. 1 among adults 18-49. NBC and Fox shared the No. 3 and 4 spots, respectively, followed by typical cellar-dweller The CW, which needs to start from scratch on Sunday again next season.
The granddaddy of the newsmagazine genre, CBS’ 60 Minutes, opened the evening first in total viewers, with 12.02 million, and second among adults 18-49, with a 2.2 rating/ 7 share in the demo. ABC’s veteran America’s Funniest Home Videos (5.0/ 8) was just the opposite, finishing first in the demo (2.6/ 8), but a distant second in total viewers (8.64 million). Also in the 7 p.m. hour was the first hour of an expanded Dateline on NBC (Viewers: #3, 5.34 million; A18-49: #4, 1.2/ 4), two repeat episodes of Fox’s The Simpsons (Viewers: #4, avg. 4.72 million; A18-49: #3, avg. 2.1/ 7), and The CW’s soon-to-conclude 7th Heaven (Viewers: 1.39 million; A18-49: #5, 0.6/ 2).
Overall, NBC’s Dateline averaged 6.58 million viewers and a 1.6/ 5 among adults 18-49 from 7-9 p.m.
In series-premiere news, the two-hour launch of Fox drama Drive was stuck in second gear, with a mere 6.05 million viewers (#4) and a 2.6/ 7 among adults 18-49 (#3) from 8-10 p.m. Comparably, that was only a slight improvement from Fox’s week-ago combination of a repeat of The Simpsons, a repeat of Family Guy and two original episodes of The War at Home. Here is the half-hour breakdown for the disappointing Drive:
8:00 p.m. Viewers: 6.41 million (#4), A18-49: 2.6/ 7 (#3)
8:30 p.m. Viewers: 6.32 million (#4), A18-49: 2.6/ 7 (#3)
9:00 p.m. Viewers: 5.87 million (#4), A18-49: 2.6/ 6 (#3)
9:30 p.m. Viewers: 5.59 million (#4), A18-49: 2.6/ 6 (#3)
First in the 8 p.m. hour was a repeat of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition on ABC, with 10.23 million viewers and a 3.7/10 among adults 18-49. Next was CBS’ should-be-addictive The Amazing Race: All-Stars at 9.06 million viewers and a 2.9/ 8 among adults 18-49. Go Charla! Also in the time period was the second-half of NBC’s aforementioned Dateline (Viewers: #3, 7.81 million; A18-49: #4, 1.9/ 5), the first hour of Fox’s Drive (Viewers: #4, 6.36 million; A18-49: #3, 2.6/ 7), and an original installment of The CW’s 7th Heaven (Viewers: 2.80 million; A18-49: 1.0/ 3). What is with that attitude, Ruthie?
ABC’s Desperate Housewives had no trouble winning the 9 p.m. hour, with 16.12 million viewers and a 6.2/14 among adults 18-49. But compared to one year earlier (Viewers: 20.02 million; A18-49: 7.9/19 on April 16, 2006, according to the final nationals), that was a decline of a noticeable 3.90 million viewers and 22 percent in the demo. Could it be that viewers are tired of the monotonous Susan/Mike/Ian triangle? What is this…Joanie Loves Chachi?
Also 9 p.m. was CBS’ underrated Cold Case (Viewers: #2, 12.28 million; A18-49: #2, 3.0/ 7), a repeat of NBC’s Deal or No Deal (Viewers: #3, 8.12 million; A18-49: #4, 2.3/ 5), the second hour of Fox’s aforementioned Drive (Viewers: #4, 5.73 million; A18-49: #3, 2.6/ 6), and a repeat of America’s Next Top Model on The CW (Viewers: #5, 1.54 million; A18-49: #5, 0.7/ 2).
CBS and ABC shared leadership at 10 p.m., with NBC’s waning The Apprentice 6 anything but the hit Donald Trump still brags about. Take a look:
Sunday 10 p.m.
Brothers & Sisters (ABC)
Viewers: 11.49 million (#2), A18-49: 4.5/12 (#1)
Without a Trace (CBS)

The Apprentice 6 (NBC)
Viewers: 6.38 million (#3), A18-49: 2.5/ 6 (#3)
To put these results into perspective, what follows is the percent change from the lead-in programming:

Without a Trace out of Cold Case
Viewers: +17, A18-49: +17
The Apprentice out of the Deal or No Deal Encore
