Another thing to consider where PD is concearned is that it has a very fixed audience.

It certainly has a very fixated audience. Cool

quote:
It seems to have held it's core audience.

Would you please stop using an apostrophe with the possessive form of its? It's very annoying. Mad

If it can maintain 8 mil viewers, then I think it should be safe for now.

It can't maintain anything--it's off the air for months in two weeks. And with retention levels like this, ABC really ought to think carefully about whether they want to honor that full season pick-up. Produce some more eps, sure--until replacements are ready. But cut the order. Severely.

I guess I was just having trouble reconciling (2.25 -> 3.8) week-to-week and the label "Fading Fast."

You're having trouble reconciling yourself to the fact that a test pattern would have gone up by several points in the demo, given a lead-in like that.

I think PD should've done better too, but even "fading" is a stretch when you have that kind of growth. "Fading" "Fast"? Really?

Yes. Really. Welcome to the wonderful world of percentages.

And FOX could counter program by having the Family Guy people do a full-length "KISS Saves Christmas"!

I think the second half-hour says it all, not the hour average. We'll know in two weeks when PD airs the last episode it has in the can.

Wasn't the movie in the FG episode KISS saves Santa?

That would be a Sweet movie.

Each night of the week, it sure seems like NBC is the new WB at its peak. Marc, am I correct that much of the programming on NBC for this and other nights is about where the WB was in its heyday? If so, it really shows how much of the tv audience has moved to other entertainment options since the WB was pulling in more 7 million viewers for some of its shows (how long ago was that)?

I'd like to say the reason "Pushing Daisies" ratings fell in the second half-hour is that it was competing against "Criminal Minds," and those crime dramas always pick up steam in the second half-hour (I need to meet these people who start watching a show 30 minutes in!)...

...but it did the same thing last week.

...and I thought the case this week was BAD.

Anyone know yet if ABC specialed out "Daisies," since it was an out-of-time-period airing, so these numbers won't be included in the show's season average?

What?! I know SNF went up by a like a point in the demo in the final, but it seems like that wouldn't have been enough, considering how awful they were last night. Are you sure?

Man, even MORE so after looking at this chart. Week after week, down down DOWN--until it has a massive and somewhat compatible lead-in--and can barely hang onto a little more than half of it.

ABC did PD a huge favor--and PD didn't return the favor. Now imagine if PD were in the 9pm timeslot WITHOUT the huge lead-in.

OK I don't get it... PD got above 10m for the first time since week 2, 3.8 in demo, and it is "fading fast"? First time it had a (great) lead-in, but also first time outside of its usual time slot. What sort of performance should PD deliver to be considered as something else than the worse show since Online Nation? Some perspective, please.

DSM performance is disappointing, but the show still doesn't know if it wants to be a (melo)drama or a comedy, so I can understand why viewers flee this otherwise well-done new series.

Agreed. The chart is pretty telling that except for the one night it aired out of its normal slot it REALLY is fading.

DSM is not only in the same neighborhood, but may even live Next Door to BS.

But the big difference between DSM and BS is that BS has a much bigger lead-in. Private Practice brings in around 11 million viewers where Grey's Anatomy gets around 18 million. I still think DSM should be tried out in the post-Grey's slot to see if the numbers improve.
