I wonder if this low number is also because of the Thanksgiving Holiday? Wink

Nope. It grew from last week and its lead in was lower than the average this season. I'd say it's done okay. Not great but not Big Shots bad. Creatively its doing great. That's all I ask for. And yes, I just took a page from the vlis book of spin. Wink Gotta do what I gotta do.

One might also consider the raw number (highest demo since the premiere) to be the real statistic, and stuff like retention and half-hours to be the spin.

One could, to be sure, if one were a kool-aid drinking tool. Cool

quote:
I mean, obviously the retention is bad, but I don't think we'll often see Marc give a "Fading Fast" label to a show that's up about 65% from its week-ago airing.

No, because usually a show like PD would benefit more from a lead-in like that. ABC did the absolute best they could do by this show, and took a much stronger show out of its regular slot so PD could be sampled by more people. But having sampled it, people started tuning out, and that really is the story here. If you don't believe me, why not believe the ratings expert whose forum you're posting on? You think he's my lackey or something? Big Grin

But I'm just a spinny spinner, so there you go.

And in two weeks, there goes PD, for quite some considerable time.

I am so glad the sweeps are over. I am also ecstatic that abc won the major demo, cbs put up a fight, but in the end abc came out smelling like a rose.

This should end up being another season high for the show.

It was a well done and different episode featuring Frankie Muniz. It was more on his perspective and some of the camera work, angles and technique was different than the norm for CM.

Very well done!

Yeah but strike or no strike CM will take a long break soon. That might hurt it. But i guess the choice of airing so many episode week after week paied off.
It won't be hurt more than any other drama that will be out of episodes. If anything, it will be hurt less than shows like DSM, PP, PD, etc...

Completely agree. Those three were doing worse than PD is now. I don't see any reason why it couldn't at least be given the deadly Monday 10pm slot next year.

What is there for PD fans to spin?

I'm SO glad you asked that question!

quote:
It got the highest ratings it has ever had in a long time,

Yeah, its ratings usually suck a lot more. Big Grin

quote:
and even after the drop, the ratings were still better than they have been for weeks.

But a show's performance is judged far more by how much it retains of its lead-in than by raw ratings. Everybody knows this. Plenty of shows have been what are known as 'timeslot hits'--only popular because of the show that leads into them. But PD isn't even a timeslot hit, because those ratings are really not impressive at all, even with no lead-in.

quote:
Considering that it was not a Christmas Episode, I think it did quite nicely.

Of COURSE you do. And thank you. Smiler

quote:
I like how people who don't like PD find ways to spin the numbers against PD.

Yeah, it sucks when people take advantage of the facts being in their favor. It's much better when people just ignore the facts, because they are hopeless fangeeks. Big Grin

quote:
I guess improving in the ratings doesn't count for anything?

Not in this circumstance, no.

quote:
PD has been doing better than most new shows this season have.

This is less true every single week, and anyway, doing a little better than a lot of other crappy low-rated shows isn't really much of an achievement.

quote:
The only reason it didn't win it's timeslot is because it had much tougher competition,

No, the reason it didn't win its timeslot is because it finally HAD some competition--but it had the strongest lead-in by far of any 9pm show. And that lead-in just ended up embarassing it.

quote:
and yet the ratings were still better? I dunno, I think some people need to cut it with the opinions and just give us the ratings.

Hear that, Marc? You better stop with those opinions! Or else! Mad

I don't watch any of these Christmas specials, but I think even I might tune in for "A Very Incredibles Christmas".

Coming next year: "Brat-a-touille"--Remy finds a good use for spoiled kids who don't like their presents. "You better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout, or you'll be a pie. Rat-a-claus is coming--to town!"

Another thing to consider where PD is concearned is that it has a very fixed audience. It seems to have held it's core audience. If it can maintain 8 mil viewers, then I think it should be safe for now.

Lost and Pushing Daisies are awesome!

BIONIC WOMAN's numbers are just painful OUCH!

I'm actually pleased with KID NATIONS's numbers. I expected it to be totally pummled by SHREK but it didn't dip below 7 million and it was the best episode in weeks because it returned the shows focus to stars TAYLOR and to a lesser degree SOPHIA.

I guess I was just having trouble reconciling (2.25 -> 3.8) week-to-week and the label "Fading Fast." I think PD should've done better too, but even "fading" is a stretch when you have that kind of growth. "Fading" "Fast"? Really?
