I know I am in the minority here, but I really enjoy DSM. I was happy to see that ABC renewed for the full season, but those numbers from last night are cause for concern. IMO, they know they have a hot product in Gregg Berlanti and probably didn't want to risk alienating him by cancelling it. Just like B&S it is a truly addictive hour of TV....I hope its numbers can bounce back some.
As for the suit who greenlit Shrek the Halls, way to go.

Yeah but strike or no strike CM will take a long break soon. That might hurt it. But i guess the choice of airing so many episode week after week paied off.
Situation comedies filmed before an audience, such as "Back to You," starring Kelsey Grammer, could be up and running within seven working days, according to show co-creator Steve Levitan. The show, which shut down when the strike began, has two scripts that just need polishing, Levitan said.
In contrast, other shows, such as the ABC series "Pushing Daisies," would take five weeks to gear up, according to creator Bryan Fuller. Production on "Pushing Daisies" ended Monday upon completion of the series' ninth episode.
Fuller pointed out that even when the strike ends, show runners still face the possibility of a shortened season and cancellation of their series.
I guess we'll see more cartoon specials in the future. But i would advise ABC against overusing this kind of programing.
Coming next year: "Brat-a-touille"--Remy finds a good use for spoiled kids who don't like their presents. "You better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout, or you'll be a pie. Rat-a-claus is coming--to town!"

One might also consider the raw number (highest demo since the premiere) to be the real statistic, and stuff like retention and half-hours to be the spin.
I mean, obviously the retention is bad, but I don't think we'll often see Marc give a "Fading Fast" label to a show that's up about 65% from its week-ago airing. But I'm just a spinny spinner, so there you go.
Life keeps building on Bionic, but that whole evening did worse than I could've imagined for NBC.
GG's second-best viewer total ever, again. ANTM down 300K from two weeks ago when GG was last original. Why not the Cane line about how serials need time to build an audience, Marc? Unlike Cane, this one actually is.
HUGE outing for Shrek. Congrats to Robert and other 20-mil predictors. There's almost no question ABC's showing this again; I'm wondering how it'll do in year 2. Personally, I thought it seemed to be going nowhere for the first ten minutes or so, but ended up a fine little show.

Because Marc just said PD looks increasingly unlikely to get a second season, and you can't very well call him a troll, since this is his forum?
Oh, so just because Marc says it is increasingly unlikely to get a second season means that there is no chance for a second season? So he is like, the TV god, huh? As far as I could tell PD gets ratings similar to Ugly Betty and that one got a second season. For an 8:00 clock show I think PD does OK. ABC has much bigger concerns, like 10:00 every night. 8 million for an 8:00 show is pretty good in these times.
And this all comes from someone who has never watched PD, and could really not care any less about the show.
I think you're right AL. ABC is going to nurture this show and righfully so. Its probably the best show I've gotten into in years. I would actually like to see a Pushing Daisies, Lost, Private Practice Wednesday in the future with Dirty Sexy Money getting the post-Greys tryout. Give Men in Trees a Tuesday 9pm tryout. It would be a nice female skewing alternative to House and the Unit (not even worrying about NBC at this point or One Tree Hill, which will no doubt struggle with a repeat lead in).

Not even close. Ugly Betty debut to over 16 million before simmering down to around 11.5-12.5 million viewers average per original episode in season 1, even though the ratings did hit a bit of a snag last spring.
Originally posted by RussTC3: ABC moved Pushing Daisies up an hour, yet audiences still found it (not only that, it increased above where it was two weeks prior).
Definitely good news, despite the show not performing as well as one would hope. Though that half-hour decline is concerning.
pushing daisies should have performed much better last night...the 9pm hut levels are higher then 8pm and its lead-in was massive...it should have won the hour yet fell to 2nd and worse yet fell at the 1/2.
i think PD may be in danger of actually losing to KN in the demos next week.

I'm so bummed about the numbers for DSM. The show is so addictive. 10 million seems like a big jump for Pushing Daisies. I'm sure it will be back down once it gets back to it's normal time slot. It's becoming very hard to watch.
What is there for PD fans to spin? It got the highest ratings it has ever had in a long time, and even after the drop, the ratings were still better than they have been for weeks. Considering that it was not a Christmas Episode, I think it did quite nicely.
I like how people who don't like PD find ways to spin the numbers against PD. I guess improving in the ratings doesn't count for anything?
PD has been doing better than most new shows this season have. The only reason it didn't win it's timeslot is because it had much tougher competition, and yet the ratings were still better? I dunno, I think some people need to cut it with the opinions and just give us the ratings. PD did fine last night. Better than it's done in weeks. You can spin it every which way but Sunday but fact is that PD isn't doing nearly as bad as your making it out to be. If those ratings hold(And they have been doing fairly well so far), PD could likely get a second season. I mean if shows like What About Brian, Notes From the Underbelly, and October Road can get Second seasons, so can PD. Getting a Second Season is the most any show can hope for anymore as the average life of a tv show seems to have been cut in half in recent years.
