From the ABC press release posted at Futon Critic comes the following quote:
"Shrek the Halls" and "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" Garner the Top 2 Highest-Rated Kids 2-11 Telecasts on the Broadcast Networks in Over 7 Years

Given that outcome for 2-11 on ABC and the fact that Kid Nation didn't take a big drop on CBS, I'm guessing that a lot of viewers watched one live and the other shortly later, timeshifted.

Marc has been tolerant of differing opinions? What are you talking about? He has taken no part in the discussions on this forum since the first couple of months it was started. I don't really think he cares about anyones opinions. Not that he should or needs to.

Um--you don't consider that 'tolerant'? Confused

He's posted several times to this thread. I'm sorry he's not participating as much as you'd like, but the fact remains, he has no problem with people disagreeing with him. That's what I call tolerant. Accepting that people will disagree with you, for a whole variety of reasons, some good and some bad, some downright ugly.

And in fact he's changed some of his opinions in the past, in reaction to people here presenting good arguments to the contrary--but not in reaction to a lot of whining from aggrieved fanfreaks who don't want to understand how ratings work. Who most certainly are NOT happy today. Wink

Those guys didn't do a lot of mea culping in their daily existences.

Probably a fan of some awful Roman playwright who was ripping off Seneca, and got thrown to the lions.

I understand now, you are talking about imaginary bad ratings that PD could have. It makes perfect sense now, ABC should axe this show because of its imaginary competition in the time slot, and its catastrophic imaginary ratings.

That the ratings expert who runs this forum specifically pointed out as a likely cause of its demise, on this very thread.

Who's really in denial here, zit?

But over and over, he's shown that it's better to evaluate a show's ratings on the ratings themselves, not whether or not you think the show ought to stay on the air. I know people think I do that, but I don't.

Yeah, but if the majority of people think that's your motivation, then that's your motivation.

Okay, Marc, so I have to ask ... why do you think that PD is fading fast and GG and DSM are losers when they all increased in the ratings this week?

Shannon, have you been reading this forum, or just using it to boost shows you like that you know in your heart are probably going to get canceled in the near future?

Because if you've been reading this forum, and Marc's reports, you really should be able to answer these questions yourself.

GoGi and DSM didn't go up far enough to get out of the loser's column.

PD didn't hang onto enough of its lead-in to avoid being called out for a very poor performance. It was given a great opportunity to prove it could benefit from a strong lead-in that some people here were saying over the last few days was a really good fit for it. I mean, How the Grinch Stole Christmas is Dr. Seuss--you really think Bryan Fuller hasn't been stealing from the good doctor with both hands?

but I'm just curious as to what your reasons are for saying that.

CBS moved into the top spot at 9 p.m. courtesy of Criminal Minds at a healthy 16.26 million viewers and a 4.5/11 among adults 18-49. Comparably, that built from lead-in Kid Nation by 8.97 million viewers and 114 percent in the demo. Second was a 9 p.m. telecast of ABC’s fading Pushing Daisies (Viewers: 10.18 million; A18-49: 3.8/ 9), which could be living up to its title by the end of the season, followed by Fox’s already renewed Kitchen Nightmares (Viewers: 7.03 million; A18-49: 3.3/ 8), NBC’s waiting-to-be axed Bionic Woman (Viewers: 5.99 million; A18-49: 2.2/ 5), and the CW’s struggling Gossip Girl (Viewers: 2.98 million; A18-49: 1.4/ 4). What concerns me about Pushing Daisies, in particular, was erosion in the second half hour of 2.54 million viewers (11.45 to 8.91 million) and 19 percent among adults 18-49 (4.2/10 to 3.4/ 8). Retention, meanwhile, out of the How the Grinch Stole Christmas encore was just 54 percent in total viewers and 56 percent in the demo. Unfortunately, not every show that the critics love attracts a mass appeal audience.

Do you need him to use smaller words? Confused

I don't really get what your point is. Marc really has no choice but to let people disagree with him. What is he going to do, kick someone off the forum for not agreeing with him?

Actually, I think he is not tolerant, because when people disagree with him he ignores them instead of responding to them. If he could tolerate disagreement he would have a discussion with people who disagreed him.

Both Dirty Sexy Money and Life received their full season orders too soon. I wonder if the networks are second guessing their decision. As much as I like Life, the audience just isn't there. DSM will never catch on and be a top watched show.

Journeyman is no longer the worst watched new show on NBC. That honor now squarely belongs to Bionic Woman. Yesterday, it not only had it's season finale, it had its series finale. It won't be coming back.

FOX has the brilliant idea of putting 'Til Death for a whole hour and it gets squarely beaten by Kitchen Nightmares. Brilliant idea FOX.

The problem with Pushing Daisies is that it is a niche show. It's a show that you watch once for its quirkyness but the majority will not come back to it regularly. Marc is right in that it doesn't have mass appeal. If it keeps its Wednesday timeframe and goes up against Idol, Pushing Daisies will get destroyed. Whatever audience it has will move over. I don't even think Private Practice has it in it to fend off the two hour Wednesday Idol episodes.

Okay, Pisher I was NOT talking to you. Mind your own business unless I actually direct something to you, okay?

Besides, like I said, you moron, you cannot compare the two ... it was a CHRISTMAS SPECIAL! GET IT??? SPECIAL!!! That means it was not on last week and will not be on again next week and will probably get higher ratings than just about anything else you put there.

I think Rockford Files is cool, but there are some things that I would change if it were up to me. (Ben Folds Five (paraphrase))

TV peaked with that twilighty show about that zone.

And it is quickly becoming your only argument. That, and the imaginary "four million viewers and a 1.5 in the demo". Roll Eyes

Marc is not here to explain his opinion, but you are. And post after post, you fail to explain why one of the most successful new shows of the season should get the axe.

Pisher, when people direct questions to Marc why do you always answer for him? Roll Eyes

Or, maybe it would be better to ask the people who ask Marc questions why they waste their time, when he never answers any questions.

Sure. And in return, you have to promise to never respond to anything I say, except on those occasions that I'm talking directly to you. Which, if you never responded to me, would be NEVER.

You really have a hard time grasping this isn't a fan forum, don't you?
