Prime-Time Ratings:
Sunday 12/09/07

The following results are based on the fast affiliate ratings (Live Plus Same Day data)

-Total Viewers:
CBS: 13.93 million, ABC: 11.75, NBC: 9.88, Fox: 6.24, CW: 1.26

-Adults 18-49:
CBS: 4.1 rating/10 share, NBC: 3.8/ 9, ABC: 3.3/ 8, Fox: 2.9/ 7, CW: 0.5/ 1

----------

Note: Any prior rating results are based on the final nationals. Also, since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 9 percent in early 2006-07 to approximately 20 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted.

----------

-Yesterday’s Winners:
Football Overrun (CBS), 60 Minutes (CBS), The Amazing Race 12 (CBS), Family Guy R (Fox)

-Respectable:
Oprah Winfrey Presents Mitch Albom’s For One More Day (ABC), Sunday Night Football (NBC)

-Yesterday’s Losers (excluding repeats):
CW Now, Life is Wild (CW)

----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS led this second Sunday in December, finishing first in both total viewers and adults 18-49. ABC and NBC tied for the second and third positions, with Fox in fourth-place and the CW a very distant (and embarrassing) fifth. Have you ever considered Sunday Night Smackdown!, CW? Note: All program ratings for CBS are estimated due to a late start time.

An approximate 30-minute football overrun opened the evening for the Eye net with a very dominant 24.40 million viewers and an 8.1 rating/22 share at 7 p.m. That led into late starts for 60 Minutes (Viewers: #1, 15.92 million; A18-49: #1, 4.3/11 from 7:30-8:30 p.m.), just renewed The Amazing Race 4 (Viewers: #3, 11.87 million; A18-49: #3, 3.8/ 9 from 8:30-9:30 p.m.), Cold Case (Viewers: #2, 11.22 million; A18-49: #3, 3.0/ 7 from 9:30-10:30 p.m.) and Shark (Viewers: #2, 9.00 million; A18-49: #3, 2.2/ 6 in the 10:30 p.m. half hour). Results for the second half of Shark were unavailable. Keep in mind, again, that all program results for CBS are estimated.

Pre-Game Football Night in America on NBC (Viewers: #3, 6.24; A18-49: #3, 2.2/ 6 from 7-8 p.m. / Viewers: #3, 9.96 million; A18-49: #3, 3.9/ 9 at 8 p.m.) opened into a below-average 11.32 million viewers and a 4.5/11 among adults 18-49 for the Colts vs. Ravens match-up on Sunday Night Football.

Over at ABC, America’s Funniest Home Videos (Viewers: #2, 9.14 million; A18-49: #2, 2.6/ 7 at 7 p.m.) and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (Viewers: #2, 12.78 million; A18-49: #1t, 4.4/10 at 8 p.m.) led into made-for Oprah Winfrey Presents Mitch Albom’s For One More Day at a respectable 12.54 million viewers (#1) and a 3.2/ 8 among adults 18-49 (#3) from 9-11 p.m. Comparably, this skewed considerably older than regularly scheduled occupants Desperate Housewives and Brothers & Sisters (which may not be back for months with the writers strike still in full swing).

Fox had nothing unusual to report with its combination of two repeat episodes of King of the Hill (Viewers: #4, 4.50 million; A18-49: #4, 2.0/ 5 from 7-8 p.m.), a repeat of The Simpsons (Viewers: #4, 7.65 million; A18-49: #4, 3.5/ 8), an original installment of King of the Hill (Viewers: #4, 6.54 million; A18-49: #4, 3.1/ 7), a repeat of Family Guy (Viewers: #4, 7.80 million; A18-49: #2, 3.9/ 9) and American Dad (Viewers: #4, 6.48 million; A18-49: #2t, 3.2/ 7). Worth noting for the Family Guy encore was growth of 1.26 million viewers and 26 percent among adults 18-49 from should-be-retired lead-in King of the Hill.

Last, and very least, was the CW’s line-up of CW Now (Viewers: 802,000; A18-49: 0.3/ 1), a repeat of Aliens in America (Viewers: 846,000; A18-49: 0.3/ 1), Life Is Wild (Viewers: 1.17 million; A18-49: 0.4/ 1), and a repeat of America’s Next Top Model (Viewers: 1.80 million; A18-49: 0.8/ 2). No…it doesn’t get much worse than that!

Thanks, Marc! Would it be possible to get half hour break downs for the Colts/Ravens game? I'd like to see the tune out after the Colts blew it open so early in game.

It really makes me sad to see where the follower of my favorite network (WB) for the past 10 years has arrived. OK i'm sad but also happy beacause the people that run the network for the last 3 years really deserve what they're getting now. I've never seen an exec making such bad decisions since Enron probably.

Oprah Winfrey Presents Mitch Albom’s For One More Day (sheesh, what a title) skewed very similar to CBS's Hallmark Hall of Fame.

Too bad that Life is Wild can't raise above that 1.2 million / 0.4 A18-49 threshold. It is such a good series, and I will miss it when The CW finally gets around to pulling it once and for all.

Life is Wild might actually post decent numbers for the CW if it wasn't sandwiched in between all repeats. But now they decide to run double encores of a crappy reality show (using it as a lead in even on the third time around) while leaving an original scripted series to wallow in the filth. I have never seen Life is Wild, but it has growth out of swill. Move it already. Oh wait its the CW.

I'm sure CW would take that in a second if it could but WWE uses that night for its pay-per-views, starting usually at 8 p.m. ET.

There used to be a secondary WWE Sunday Night Heat program (now online only) that aired on cable in the 7 p.m. ET slot. That's the only possibility I can imagine out there.

Two things....

Props to AMAZING RACE for its continued string of high ratings...

Does anyone thing that CBS has to be kicking itself now for giving TAR sh@%ty treatment by ordering the NON ELIM legs dropped and cutting the order of episodes now that its doing so well and they could use the extra episodes during this writers strike?

For the next edition they better restore the number of episodes back to its normal FULL season!

Second...while 11 Million is good for TAR it was a surprise to see that number for an ORIGINAL episode of COLD CASE!

I'm thinking viewers must not have known that COLD CASE was new last night?

Edited to add...just notices a repeat of AMERICAN DAD did better than the original last week...I guess haveing no new DH helped...

imo, life is wild is the only new show on the cw that has potential to become another 7th heaven...unfortunately the cw stuck it on a night where the the net (and the wb) were extremely weak for years...i say put it on mondays, imo it would do alot better.

cold case's ratings/demos have slipped this year...unfortunately being sandwiched by two losers (shark and viva laughlin/power of 10) has damaged this great show.

You're right. None of the other new CW shows will ever amount to much. Life is Wild had real potential to bring in a wide skewing audience but the timeslot is brutal for a family drama. Why the network didn't even move an established show to Sunday is a real head scratcher.

I place Cold Case as one of the dullest hours on CBS, right along with Without a Trace. Its too bad those two weren't just left alone on Sundays. Shark could've used the younger CSI lead in for another year.
