Did anyone REALLY think Meredith was going to die?
I knew it wasn't going to happen, but they packaged the well-worn material so effectively, I did find myself wondering if they were going to throw us a curveball. And that's all you should expect from this level of entertainment--the willing cheerful suspension of disbelief, while you're actually watching it.
People expecting a massive turn-off next week by disappointed Meredith-haters may be in for a disappointment. But they probably did jazz up the ratings a little. Hey, maybe Meredith should hover at the brink of death at least once or twice every season. Gets the average up.

Say what you want about Grey's over-exposure, that rerun beat out the NBC comedies and likely did as well as Ugly Betty would have done. I'd call that a great programming move. Survivor took a hit (looks like its lowest rated Thursday episode ever), but I bet it held up better than Amazing Race will this Sunday.

Also at 9 p.m. were struggling NBC sitcoms Scrubs (4.1/ 6) and 30 Rock (3.4/ 5), and a repeat of the CW’s Supernatural (1.6/ 2).
Why is 30 Rock still on the air? Bring back the unaired Joey episodes anyd they would probably get higher ratings.

I think they did throw a curveball. My interpretation, anyway, was that Meredith was 'running out of time' (said several times by the dead people) not because she was running out of time to live, but because she was running out of time to see her Mom off.
Not much of a curve, but better than nothing.
BTW, it was nice to see them at least pretend that doctors might have to work during the biggest disaster in the cities modern history.

What did everyone think of the OC series finale? I thought it did a great job of wrapping everything up, and the end scene with Ryan asking a kid if he needs help was perfect.
I had never seen the show before last night, so it was weird.

A few have already been renewed. Fox announced new seasons for "Bones" and "House" a few days ago.
New "Survivor" and "American Idol" deals have been announced a while ago. I am sure I am missing several which have committments for next season.
The networks will be slowly releasing information on some renewals for the next ten weeks. Then each will unveil its "official" 2007-2008 schedule during the May upfront presentations in NYC in mid-late May.

They once looked liked that airing Millionaire on all those nights was a great programming move. And that turned out great.

I doubt it. Not in that timeslot after being off the air for that long.

My interpretation was that she had to decide to live before it was too late to come back, and Ellis, willingly departing a life that had lost all dignity, gave her that last needed push towards life by finally bestowing her approval. And boy, does that sound corny when you read it. But it worked pretty well onscreen. And kudos to the pifeedback poster who predicted that was exactly what would happen. And I can't remember who that was, but if it was you, kudos!

Meredith never did have much in the way of curves.

True. But entirely beside the point. Grey's Anatomy is not about real doctors. You want to see something approaching reality, might I recommend St. Elsewhere? And the hovering-near-death scenes are also far more convincing on that show--and WAYYYYY darker and twistier. I chuckle when people say Meredith is dark. Do these people also think Rachel Ray is dark?
Of the five Barbara Walters hours (two of which were encore hours), only once was she led into by Grey's. Three of her hours were 9 pm or 10 pm on Fridays, and one was Tuesday at 10 pm (led into by HMHY's 2.6HH, 4%, 1.4 18-49. Aside from Grey's, Barbara Walters improved on her lead in.
Barbara Walters Specials have been reliable ratings-gatherers for the last 30 years. It would be good for ABC to bring Oprah into the specials mix. They certainly have a plethora of scheduling holes to plug.

ABC would do well to order up more Oprah specials.

Meredith wanted to die, at least in part, to get away from her mother. Once she found out her mother was in the afterlife, she rushed back towards real life.

I agree. Grey's Anatomy is nothing more than a nighttime soap opera. St. Elsewhere was an infinitely better show, as is ER.
