Dream On! CBS really has nothing else to put in either place. They like the old ways so much they're bringing back "Without a Trace" to its old slot.

But what I really want to know is: where are they finding these contestants who "have never heard of the show" and come on relatively unprepared? Chicken didn't know one bit about human relations and Courtney apparently lives in the NYC Sewer Syetem for all she knows.

But I like James the Grave Digger.

Like i always say Survivor and other reality shows are just as "scripted" as CSI or Grey's Anatomy

Will be most interesting to see how Lyrics holds up against original eps of CSI and Grey's Anatomy (and NBC comedies as well). I'm guessing it will do decent like Deal or No Deal from last year.

CBS does fine on Thursdays, and Survivor still do very well for CBS on Thursday at 8. I think it would be foolish for CBS to move the show. And what show should they switch it with?

And the numbers for BatG was just embarrassing for the CW, seriously the CW would have done better by showing repeats of Smallville and Supernatural on Thursday night. Although I am hoping that Supernatural would stay steady this season and not decline.

It's amazing what Survivor does for CSI's ratings. That has to be the highest rated repeat since spring. I really believe we're going to see the DVR impact and ratings erosion that started last spring. I expect the season openers for UB and MNIE to be off as well.

Although I have one thing to say about the numbers for Gossip Girl pilot last night. I think the number preview so low, because the pilot episode was released on iTunes about a 5 days earlier than the actual premiere, so some people probably already saw the first episode so they didn't watch it.

Trust me it's not that. they were saying the same for the O.C. last season and the next episodes were just as bad from the ratings point of view. sorry

I doubt iTunes played a significant role, but I wouldn't write off Gossip Girl yet. The CW has to be patient with it given all the time and effort they spent promoting it.

Survivor's ratings are still pretty solid for a show in its 15th reincarnation.

I would just love if a Chinese woodcutter comes wandering into their camp by mistake and steals their pots and pans. Big Grin Although Survivor is doing very well in the ratings and this season has certainly been interesting, so any personal early favorites?

Hey Mark, any chance we could get half hours for the "Burn Notice" finale when they are available?

This SURVIVOR seems loaded with unlikable characters already. They remind me of the Thailand crew.

KID NATION was actually more fun-never thought that I would say that...but there's no way I wouldn't ever not watch SURVIVOR...

Yeah, the ratings are down from last year but I'm betting they'll be a lot higher than a lot of the new shows coming out this fall-especially on CBS.

CBS Thursday is indeed growing grey. “Survivor” has been on the night since January 2001 and both “CSI” and “Without a Trace” are Thursday veterans as well.

If CBS is not proactive, when all three series show accelerated signs of declining viewership, the network will be in the same position NBC is currently in. For too many years NBC wasted valuable primetime real estate on sub-par comedies produced in house (remember “Union Square”, “Jesse”, “The Single Guy”, “Veronica’s Closet” or “Madman of the People”) instead of fostering the next generation of comedies. If NBC had done so they would not have had the tremendous vacuum to fill once “Friends”, “Frasier”, and “Will & Grace” exited. CBS needs to realize this and try to launch series that will eventually replace “Survivor”, “CSI”, and “Trace”.

Moving “Trace” back to Thursdays after only one season on Sundays (where it performed respectably) shows that CBS has no long range goals or plans for this crucial night. While even a diluted line-up can pack a punch, that punch is not as severe as in previous years. How many critics scoffed when CBS (correctly) labeled “CSI” and underdog to the relocated “Grey’s Anatomy” last summer?

There is very little CBS can do to ignite any new interest in “Survivor” without changing the aspect of the game, so future seasons will likely continue the slow decline. (If the next season follows the usual erosion pattern, it will open to only around 12-13 million viewers.)

Perhaps CBS could have launched the serial drama “Cane” or “Swingtown” out of “CSI”, since the network had luck with the long-running “Knots Landing” in that time period during the 1980s and 1990s. “Trace” could then have been used to shore up the troublesome Tuesday at 10:00 time period that the network has struggled with ever since “Judging Amy” was disbarred. As far as the 8:00 time period goes, CBS could air a new reality series (or the returning “Amazing Race”) in between the two cycles of “Survivor”. If that scenario generated any positive outcome then that new reality series could be used to replace “Survivor” (which I would then move to a new night – possibly Wednesdays).

In today’s entertainment industry, a network (not even number one CBS) can afford to sit back and rest on its laurels. While that may work for a time, it will eventually collapse. Just ask NBC.

I don't question for a second that "Survivor" is doing a solid number. But the staidness of the slot probably is accelerating the ratings decay of the series. What is CBS supposed to do if/when "American Idol" finally makes that permanent jump to Thursdays?

CBS should move "Survivor" to another night (I suggest Sundays) while it is still useful and give some other new show the chance to shake things up on Thursdays.

I already rooting against her. she seems such a NYC snob.

I wonder how many players at Tribal Council poo'ed themselves when Chicken Yealled in response to being voted out? Big Grin

I agree that Survivor is fine where it is. I don't like the move of Without a Trace to Thursday. It is one of CBS' stronger shows and it should be used to anchor a night in the 9 pm hour.

It feels like CBS want to make Thursdays stronger, in defense of ABC's lineup.

I personally like the move, so I don't accidentally mis an episode due to Sports run over on Sundays.
