-Friday’s Losers:
Trading Spouses (Fox)

---------------

-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS and NBC shared Friday bragging rights, with CBS first in households and Deal or No Deal-ignited NBC No. 1 in total viewers and adults 18-49. ABC finished third despite airing part two of special Barbara Walters: 30 Mistakes in 30 Years, while Fox and the CW capped off the evening in competition for No. 4.

Beginning with 8 p.m., a Friday edition of NBC’s Deal or No Deal in place of the regularly scheduled 1 vs. 100 won the hour with a healthy 12.68 million viewers and a 3.4 rating/11 share among adults 18-49. Considering viewers were getting accustomed to the regularly scheduled 1 vs. 100 (I personally was), was it such a good idea pre-empting it at the last minute for another dose of Howie Mandel?

Second in the 8 p.m. hour was CBS’ Ghost Whisperer (Viewers: 10.13 million; A18-49: 3.2/10), followed by a repeat of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy at 5.82 million viewers and a 1.8/ 6 among adults 18-49. The CW’s Friday Night Smackdown! (Viewers: #4, 4.39 million; A18-49: #5, 1.4/ 4) and a two-hour edition of Fox’s Trading Spouses (Viewers: #5, 3.59 million; A18-49: #4, 1.5/ 5) shared the No. 4 and 5 spots from 8-10 p.m.

At 9 p.m., leadership was also mixed, with CBS’ Close To Home No. 1 in total viewers (10.63 million) and second among adults 18-49 (2.6/ 8), and NBC’s Las Vegas just the opposite at 9.09 million viewers (#2) and a first-place 2.7/ 8 among adults 18-49. Although Close To Home built from lead-in Ghost Whisperer by 500,000 viewers, it dipped among adults 18-49 by 19 percent. Retention, meanwhile, for Las Vegas out of Deal or No Deal was a so-so 72 percent in total viewers and 79 percent among adults 18-49.

Also at 9 p.m. was an earlier edition of ABC’s 20/20 at a third-place finish in total viewers (7.49 million) and adults 18-49 (2.3/ 7).

At 10 p.m., CBS’ Numb3rs and NBC’s Law & Order shared leadership, while part two of ABC special, Barbara Walters: 30 Mistakes in 30 Years was a competitive No. 3 (and an improvement over regularly scheduled occupant 20/20). Take a look:

Friday 10 p.m.
Numb3rs (CBS)
Viewers: 10.56 million (#1), A18-49: 2.9/ 9 (#2t)

Las Vegas (NBC)
Viewers: 10.52 million (#2), A18-49: 3.0/ 9 (#1)

Barbara Walters: 30 Mistakes in 30 Years (ABC)
Viewers: 9.26 million (#3), A18-49: 2.9/ 9 (#2t)

ABC really needs to improve their Friday night schedule. Not much substance there at all

So does Fox, which has never had much success on the night.

FOX!!! FOX!!! WHAT is that??? Smiler Just my way of saying that to me FOX is nonexistent on most nights. I don't watch anything on FOX this year. And I won't be watching the OJ special either. TO me(my opinion) it's horrendous how low FOX will go to get ratings. "IF I killed her"--do you think it will get good ratings or be so repulsive to people that they stay away in droves. I hope they do--it will be a big flop(ratings and money wise) and send a message that as a society we disapprove of programs like this.

The problem with FOX is that they seem to only care about mid season. Sure it has big hits like American Idol and 24 plus House becomes stronger but you have to wonder how long this will last. They can't always rely on these shows forever. They have to feel pretty embarassed that The CW is beating them on Fridays and the fact that they are neck to neck on Thursday.

Trading Spouses was working on Friday last season but Fox pulled an OC and forgot to advertise for it this season so viewers don't even know that its on.

I can't speak for the masses, but I won't be watching. I'm not giving that loser any more attention than he has already gotten.

I have one quick question for Marc, even though Ghost Whisperer and Close to Home won their timeslot, how come they are considered Honorable Mention instead of Winners? Is it because of their demos? I'm not a fan of either show, so I'm not complaining, just curious.

Fox pissed a lot of viewers off over the last few years by wielding the axe a tad too quickly and not allowing critically praised shows an apportunity to find an audience. I know many, many people who simply won't touch new series on Fox (and some won't even watch new series on any network until they've made it to their second season) because they don't want to invest in something that's going to die an untimely, unjustified death.

Fox should think about what it is doing before running those OJ hours. Sometimes there is more to a network than just ratings.

Hi Carrie. Ghost Whisperer was second behind Deal To Home, hence the honorable mention, and Close to Home dipped by 19 percent among adults 18-49 from Ghost Whisperer, falling to second in the demo behind Las Vegas.

I did Taylorjng, thank you. Sometimes this stuff drives me nuts! Here is the correction:

At 10 p.m., CBS’ Numb3rs and NBC’s Law & Order shared leadership, while part two of ABC special, Barbara Walters: 30 Mistakes in 30 Years was a competitive No. 3 (and an improvement over regularly scheduled occupant 20/20). Take a look:

Friday 10 p.m.
Numb3rs (CBS)
Viewers: 10.56 million (#1), A18-49: 2.9/ 9 (#2t)

Law & Order (NBC)
Viewers: 10.52 million (#2), A18-49: 3.0/ 9 (#1)

Barbara Walters: 30 Mistakes in 30 Years (ABC)
Viewers: 9.26 million (#3), A18-49: 2.9/ 9 (#2t)
