I saw someone say viewership overall was up 25% last night.

Is that true? That seems like such a huge increase, I find it hard to believe.

If there was such an increase, what accounts for it?

I hate how they phrase that. I think it's so misleading. It implies to me that the ratings are comparable to Smackdown, but they're not. They're not even close. Smackdown got over 4 million viewers and I think 1.4 A18-49 the last time it was on the CW.

The truth of that stmt is Smallville hasn't been able to get close to Smackdown's performance in the same time slot and is only doing better than the comedies that were canceled.

I know the CW has to spin everything, but I feel like that phrasing is very confusing and misleading.

This probably doesn't mean much but I calculated the average drop of a show moving to Friday nights is roughly 35% of it's viewers(using Smallville, Ugly Betty and Terminator).

I am guessing UB might pick up a few viewers over the next couple of months but probably won't break 6M. ABC might have been smart to put it on it's Wednesday Comedy Block at 8

I'm not surprised that L&O did pretty well last night. They aired the "John & Kate Plus 8" ripped from the headlines episode. I didn't see it, but I'm sure for fans of J&K, there was some interest in it.

I watched part of the Dateline special. It was a little sleepy. I'll bet there was a lot of tune out in the half hour.

Over at NBC, granddaddy Law & Order opened the night with 7.60 million viewers (#2) and a third-place 1.6/ 6 among adults 18-49 at 8 p.m.

Nice to see Law and Order grow from its 1.5 demo last week. If it continues, NBC would be smart to renew it for another season.

UB might get a bit of a renewal. It was put on Fridays because its ratings kept going down and fans were no longer excited about it. It didn't have much going for it.

It wouldn't have survived on Thursdays with the tough competition. It needed an easier slot.

Unless ratings perk up, and that is unlikely, this will be Ugly Betty's last season for sure.

ABC should really move Ugly Betty to either Tuesdays or Wednesdays at 8 where there will be major problems

I thought last nights episode of Ghost Whisperer was the best episode this season.

There is nothing misleading in this sentence if you read it correctly. They don't imply any comparison to Smackdown....they just state that since 9/26/08 (meaning 9/26/08 is excluded) they have never had better ratings in this hour until yesterday. Crystal clear and cannot be interpreted in any other way...

But hasn't this same thing been explained in this forum already some weeks ago?

Smallville will definitely get a final 10th season. No other show for the CW will perform this great for them then smallville

smallville should get a 10th season, but it does not have to be a full 22 episode order, they should order a half season but be prepared to order a full if all their new shows tank

Agreed, I wasn't expecting Law and Order to grow from last week due to baseball on FOX but it did! Law and Order may just contend with Ghost Whisperer in the weeks to come.

"Ugly Betty" was not well written last season, but this first episode was excellent. I just hope the show can survive on Fridays... it's good the audience grew in its second hour. I agree, though, that it would probably not have done much better than last year's numbers on Thursdays at 8pm.

It appears it may have put a dent in Ghost Whisperer too.

I think Betty should end too. These types of programs should only go on for so long. Betty will have enough eps for syndication after this year and its already scored some (admittedly mediocre) syndication deals.

Well V is taking over Tuesdays and where then would they go with Patricia Heaton's promising the Middle? I know Hank is a failure but I think Betty would do no better.
