No, The Office is NOT better than BBT.

I love all these people (including a lot of critics) who love to praise these single camera sitcoms, while bashing the multi camera CBS sitcoms. Well, check the ratings. The CBS Monday night sitcoms kill the NBC Thursday night sitcoms in the ratings every week. The only one that is even competitive with its counterpart is The Office, and something tells me it will dip as well when Grey's Anatomy returns this week.

I'm not an Office fan, but I certainly acknowledge it is superior to BBT (or 2 and 1/2 men) with much more nuanced writing. But then again, I guess it's not for everyone. There's a reason old school comedies used to be so popular, eh? Wink Since networks strive to find the lowest common denominator...

Of course, not having Bela next season would also free up that money. SPN's budget being cut for next year chaps my behind.
I share your pain, I wasn't surprised by the budget cut (though again it pisses me off). I do wonder if that is a across the board for all shows, decrease. And yeah, I certainly hope that the producers save money by cutting at least one actress from the show. The one nice thing was it was the first confirmation that I have read (from the actual producers or studio) that it was picked up for 22 episodes, so was pleased by that.

Huh? I didn't say NBC is better than CBS.

Sorry, I wasn't adressing your comment. I was just making a general statement about the mulit camera vs single camera sitcoms.

She won't care. Whether Reaper gets higher ratings than Gossip Girl (and it usually does) is irrelevant to her. Reaper doesn't score well in the teen female and 18-34 female demo. In Dawn's eyes, that's why Gossip Girl is such a hit. It's all she cares about. The girly girl teeny demo.

Not only that it does exceptionally poorly in the overall 18-34 demo. While I am sure they would rather have the female side of it. But if it could only managed to get decent numbers in the male demo for that age group, it would be renewed.

I don't know about that, series like Seinfeld or Friends (minus the last couple of years) were well written but didn't necessarily have mass appeal a priori. They were much more sophisticated than "lowest common denominator".

Maybe the new sitcoms are just not funny enough.

While I believe they both might get another 13, it will depend on what type of comedies FOX has on the pipeline. They don't seem to go for these kinds of comedies and something with the quirkiness of Unhitched, Life on a Stick, The Winner or The Loop isn't going to fit in with these shows.

When someone talks about how 'nuanced' the NBC sitcoms are, that is what they mean. 'Nuanced' is a spin word for 'not funny'
