Funny that Gossip Girl is considered a loser here yet Variety has a pretty positive outlook on its performance last night. quote: At CW, "Gossip Girl" (1.3/4 in 18-49, 2.4 million viewers overall) logged its third best performance in its 14 episodes to date among adults 18-34 (2.0/6) and women 18-34 (2.9/8), placing second in the 8 o'clock hour in the latter. Combined with the solid "One Tree Hill" (1.4/3 in 18-49, 2.8 million viewers overall), the net delivered its best Monday yet in its target demos. GG will be around for years just like OTH. Every year fans of OTH worry that it will be cancelled because of low ratings but it looks to me that Monday night is not really gonna be a problem for the CW as compared to other nights. Will they even bother having programing in place of wrestling next year? GG is arguably the most buzzed about show on television from last fall. The buzz really hasn't translated into ratings but I think the CW is more than content with the results so far. One would imagine that SOAP is already foaming at the mouth for a syndication deal with GG.

For those of you saying how badly BBT did vs. HIMYM I looked at its competition how it did within the half hours of 8:00 to 9:00, and if you look BBT really did okay. HIMYM gained 1 million viewers, while the other two added 2 million viewers at 8:30, and the .8 demo difference is the same as the other shows. Maybe it did not do as bad as some of us think. I think Obveeus, and his time slot point makes sense. Look at this :
Dancing With the Stars (ABC) 8:00 p.m. – Viewers: 15.97 million (#1), A18-49: 3.7/11 (#1) 8:30 p.m. – Viewers: 18.10 million (#1), A18-49: 4.4/11 (#1)
Deal or No Deal (NBC) 8:00 p.m. – Viewers: 8.15 million (#3), A18-49: 2.0/ 6 (#4) 8:30 p.m. – Viewers: 10.07 million (#2), A18-49: 2.7/ 7 (#4)
Big Bang Theory/HIMYM (CBS) 8:00p.m. -Viewers : 7.51 million (# 4), A 18-49 : 2.9/8 (#2) 8:30p.m. -Viewers : 8.52 million (# 3), A 18-49 : 3.7/9 (#2)

You just answered your own question on why GG is, and will continue to be, a loser on CW. [QUOTE]Originally posted by Gleebo: The buzz really hasn't translated into ratings. QUOTE]

It was a big ratings success, and for quite a good while, though obviously there have been bigger sitcoms. It didn't spawn a successful spinoff--however, its influence is great--and mainly pernicious. You want to know why comedies are less successful now? Because before Friends, the networks thought you could have a show about funny people, or a show about pretty skinny people. After Friends, they got addicted to the concept that you could have a show about funny pretty skinny people. ALL pretty all skinny--nobody who looked remotely normal. Friends is a show where only pretty, skinny, and sorta funny people exist. And they've been trying to clone it ever since, and the results have been mainly pretty horrendous. Because there's just not a lot of pretty skinny funny people out there. I mean, even Friends had to settle for Matt LeBlanc to fill out the cast. Two out of three ain't bad.
And what comedy has ever spawned a sucsessful spin off? They all fail.

So nuance is a good thing?
If I had the money, I'd fly to wherever the hell they film that piece of junk and burn down the sets myself to spare the rest of the world anymore of that dreck.

That wasnt what I was posting about. You said all of them fail. In fact the Jeffersons, The Facts of Life, Empty Nest, Frasier, Rhoda all were VERY sucessful shows during thier time. The Simpsons is far more sucessful than Tracy Ulman. quote: Originally posted by Walter: quote: Originally posted by whatsonpop: Off the top of my head: All In the Family Maude Cheers Golden Girls The Cosby Show Mary Tyler Moore quote: Originally posted by Walter: quote: Originally posted by pisher: quote: Here we go again with what is a hit or not... but I never thought there would ever be a debate about the success of Friends.

My "off the top of my head" The Golden Girls The Honeymooners I Love Lucy Will and Grace All in the Family Roseanne Seinfeld Friends The Cosby Show Some is personal taste, but hey these shows were classics. I just wish that sitcoms could go back to this, but I'm not holding my breath.

Perhaps next time, people won't be so quick to claim that timeslot doesn't matter?
I would like to point out that I personally never said that BBT could kick HIMYM's butt, if they switched time slots, nor that time slots don't matter. I'd just like to go on the record saying that. However, that doesn't change my opinion, on the fact that they should be switched back next season. I don't see the point now with only a few episodes left to air (I don't know the number), but switching the shows time slot too many times would just confuse viewers. So, give it the time slot that it deserves next season, whether that be 8:30 or 9:30. I'll leave that up to the people at CBS. "Normally" they can do this stuff.

Well most people thought that the sitcom was dead in the eighties before The Cosby Show came along. Hopefully we will witness another renaissance. quote: Originally posted by Fortune8461: quote: Originally posted by whatsonpop: Off the top of my head:

Personally all my friends watch and so do i. I just watched it online now and just 1 website already has 40,000 views and its been up for less than 12 hours ( I know because I tried to get it earlier)
Clearly taking away internet streaming is doing nothing, people can jsut get it from elsewhere
