Best sitcom ever--The Honeymooners. Lasted one season (as a sitcom). We'll be watching it as long as there are still televisions, and some source of power for them, which may not be that much longer, but never mind that now.

It doesn't date. Ever. It's still more modern and alive than anything on the air today. Just four actors and most of it takes place on one threadbare set. Pretty much all husband/wife comedies (Home Improvement, Everybody Loves Raymond, King of Queens, ad infinitum) take their cues, and most of their best shtik from it. It's also an enormous influence on shows like Seinfeld--pretty much all urban sitcoms, or shows about people whose ambitions outstrip their abilities.

I watch sitcoms I once thought were funny and clever, and I still like them, but I can see how badly they hold up over time.

The Honeymooners is the opposite--the further we get away from it, the more its genius becomes apparent. It will never be equalled. I have spoken. To the moon, Alice.

I like both The Office and How I Met Your Mother, but, for me at least, Big Bang Theory just isn't that good right now.

And the person who said Big bang Theory is better than The Office, you have to be reasonable about this. We all have our own personal tastes, and I don't think there's anything wrong with someone liking Big Bang Theory over The Office, or simply disliking The Office. But if you're going to talk about which show is considered to be better, The Office does better in the ratings on a network that is currently not as popular, on a competitive night sandwiched, between a group of shows that get very mediocre to poor ratings. And going beyond ratings The Office has won many awards and has received much critical praise. If you like Big bang Theory more that's fine, but in terms of which is considered to be better The Office has Big Bang Theory beat in terms of audience, difficulty of its schedule, critics, awards, and how long it's been on the air.

I watched The Office for a full season, now i'm watching BBT since it began. I think BBT is better. That's my opinion, others might think the other way around. I don't see what's the problem.

CBS has done wrong putting BBT at 8:00. It just isn't working. The show is the funniest show I've seen in years, and I crack up everytime. As Marc said, it should be very addictive, and is. CBS should just switch it back to 8:30, or even 9:30 out of Two and a Half Men, where it deserves to be.

Not too surprising since CBS had a lot of it's shows in repeats last week.

I totally agree. What has messed this up is the time change. It is just asking too much of a freshman show to be on at 8:00, and in a very tough time slot. If they would just let it grow at 8:30 like it was,I think it would do fine. It simply does not have a loyal enough audience yet to go on without a lead in. You would think CBS would have learned this after they had The Class lead off at the begining of last season, and it failed. I wish CBS would move it back to 8:30, and it would do fine.

They all had group casts of unrelated people focusing on getting by in their daily lives. The shows mix 'sophisticated' humor of the life situations with silly/simple jokes 'for the masses'. The character, Barney, on HIMYM is just like Kramer on Seinfeld: the annoying nutball friend added for comic relief that the rest of the cast puts up with. He always has a plan/idea, he always seems to have lots of relationships outside the group, yet at the core, the character would be completely lost without the group.

They should bring back Welcome Back Kotter and Head of the Class. Those were such a timeless brilliant sitcoms. New sitcoms today just pale in comparison.

While The Honeymooners is not my all-time favourite sitcom, it is within my top five.

For those of you who live in New York City, or can obtain WPIX as a superstation, every week on Sunday night at 1:00-2:00 am (early Monday morning), WPIX CW11 (the station that runs an annual New Years Eve Honeymooners marathon) is currently unspooling a year-long run of the entire series of The Honeymooners...the classic 39 plus the 69 "lost" episodes (hopefully, somewhere some kind soul has tucked the "lost" Cavemen episodes in their basement as Mr. Gleason did).

The episodes are being scheduled according to viewer popular favourites, and viewers can vote for their favourite episodes on-line at cw11.com.

I've seen all the episodes broadcast to date, and they are pristine prints of the old black and white kinescopes.

Praise be to WPIX! (the sound of dumont ovating thunderously)
