FOX American Idol (two-hour finale) - 29.470 million viewers - 17.2/28 HH - 11.1/30 A18-49 *note, due to about 10 minutes of overrun, the finals will likely be higher
CW One Tree Hill (8pm repeat) - 1.398 million viewers - 1.0/2 HH - 0.6/2 A18-49 - 0.7/2 A18-34
One Tree Hill (9pm, repeat) - 1.299 million viewers - 0.9/1 HH - 0.6/2 A18-49 - 0.8/2 A18-34

It'll be interesting to see what ABC does with the show in '08. Will they toss it into a hopeless death slot to try and cover programming mistakes, or will their new shows click so well that they don't have a good place for it?
And will the show have any viewer growth/buzz, or will only about 10 million or so dedicated Losties show up when everyone else already has ingrained viewing patterns?
That is almost as much as mystery that I want to see resolved as the plotline of the show...
I LOVED lost last night. Can we start talking about it yet? Crying one minute jaw hitting the floor the other. Didn't watch an episode at all this year and still enjoyed it A LOT. American Idol - Guess anyone who used their tivo last night was probally upset since it ran over almost 15 minutes! No big shocker though. OTH numbers low as I expected but hey not that much lower than an orignial VM episode so not that bad (sorry VM fans). I'm acually happy with the CW on that move deciding to run a repeat (never thought I would see they day) Also enjoyed the SNL show. Recorder was maxed out so had to say goodbye at 9. Great night of TV.
Yeah, that's exactly what I thought would happen--the numbers even went up significantly in the final half hour--people looking for answers. But what do the answers even mean without the story? And what does the story mean if they'd skip past such an important part of it?
There are a lot of ways they can get out of the hole they've dug themselves (so much deeper than the hole leading down to the hatch).
NBC demonstrates how much people care about SNL these days. Also, they show a continued plan to overuse Dateline. I guess they know ratings will continue to slowly decline so the plan is to fire off talent in order to reduce costs and keep Dateline 'profitable'?
Lost and American Idol both did slightly better than I expected. Now, with both of them gone until next January, ABC and FOX have lots of dead air to fill.
One Tree Hill episodes both topped a million viewers. Still horrible ratings, but better than I expected.
CBS, meanwhile, shows why those ever interchangeable investigative dramas are worthwhile: good repeat numbers.

It's an established show, they promote it heavily, and it really should be self-supporting by now. It's never had a really bad timeslot. Ever. Was ABC right to move it to 10pm? Well, take a look at the ratings for 9pm.
The audience wasn't tuning out because it was on later--they were tuning out because the show was off-par. I think it's improved greatly over the final ten episodes. But I never stopped watching the show, so I'm not the best authority on what will bring back the people who did.
I can tell you, I've heard a lot of discontented rumblings about the finale, and in the past, those rumblings have led to audience slippage.
The bright spot is that with only 16 eps per season, they should be able to really keep things hopping for all 16 hours.
While I REALLY enjoyed Lost last night, I wonder what this means for the future of the show. By revealing that they eventually get off of the island, have they removed the reason viewers watch the show? I'll keep watching because I want to know what happens to Jack that makes him turn into the man we saw last night. But will everyone be as curious? Questions aside, it was an excellent way to end the season.

I really don't understand the mentality of people that don't care enough to watch an entire episode of a plotdriven show. If they don't care enough about a show to watch it, at least they should show the strength of character to tell people that at work the next day rather than catching the end so they can 'fool' people into thinking that they watched it.
Lost was the best finale of finales that I've watched all this season. The ending was a twist I never expected and it answered one of the most important questions about the show. It makes you wonder whether or not what "should" happen, should happen.
For all the talk of Lost's "lackluster" season, I actually think this season was superior to season three. The first half of the season was not very good. But, the 2nd half of episodes have more than made up for that plus some.
ABC must've have been P-I-S-S-E-D off that AI ran until 10:10PM, or so. I know I would've been. AI was just filler, filler, filler, filler. There is no explanation as to why they can't wrap up the show in the two hours allotted. All of the performances were absolutely unnecessary. A crappy finale to top the crappiest season.
I don't know how I feel about the winner. We'll have to see

I've been trolling the various entertainment sites and I'm seeing more positive feedback for Lost than negative. It was a very risky move (the flash forward); one I probably wouldn't have made. I understand the rationale for it, but we will have to wait and see if it worked or not.

I just love that, in addition to the litany of questions remaining about the island, we've now seemingly fast-forwarded and have a new slew of questions about the in-between. Who got off the island? Who was Naomi working for (seemed like military on the sat-phone)? What happened when they came? Who was Kate going back to (the vague "he" she mentioned)? How much time has passed? Whose funeral was it? What the heck was meant by the other doctor threatening to go to Jack's here-to-for-presumed-dead father?
Now that other people are off the Island, I wonder if they'll bring Malcolm David Kelly back (so good to see him last night for the cameo... the producers always said the Michael/Walt story wasn't done, and that MDK being a growing, aging boy would present problems... perhaps we're now in 2007?) Michael Perrineau's pilot (the terrible DEMONS) didn't go, so maybe he's available, too.
