Too bad about Swingtown - it was, by far, the best episode yet, and it's too bad that it was the last. Molly Parker absolutely stole the show last night - I haven't seen a better performance from her than last night. On a brighter note, though, it was the highest rated show on CBS last night, if that even matters. Even if it isn't renewed, it was a great show, and I had a great summer watching it!

Me two. I loved the show alot and will never forget it if its the end. But until its offical i will have hope.

I agree. Until Nina Tassler herself officially declares Swingtown a goner, I will always have hope. I didn't want to indepth here, but the season finale did its usual numbers. It showed that it didn't need a lead-in to have an audience, considering it actually grew on its lead-in of Old Christine by almost a million viewers.

Yes

Georgia Superintendent of Schools Kathy Cox proved she is smarter than a 5th grader by winning $1 million for her school system on the third season debut of “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?” on Fox Friday night.

The last question was: "Which commanding British general surrendered to American troops in Yorktown in 1781?"
The answer is Queen Victoria (63 years)

Yeah - the first million dollar winner last night. I really wasn't expecting it, since FOX wasn't like NBC by telling them it was going to happen.

In the defense of Stand Up to Cancer, it had NO promotion at all. And together, it cracked 11 million, which isn't horrible. Same with CBS Preview, no promotion. You cannot expect any program to do well without promotion.

No baseball pre-emptions for SD!? Numbers for SD! looks WEIRD...eh? The CW just tasted another high this week...

The numbers for SmackDown! on Friday 9/05/08 is the real #s for SD!...the 3 million plus is the #s which are affected by preemptions

No preemptions and a return to kids being back in school definitely lifts the numbers. Chicago was, of course, the most grevious market for CW preemptions, but have the Smackdown fans compiled a list of which markets will be the main offenders when wrestling moves to MNTV? Do they have to worry about local sports in NYC? LA? Phily? etc...

I'll have to recheck the numbers, but if I recall correctly Raines didn't do that bad in the ratings. NBC just didn't like it and did anything to dump it.

I second that! Swingtown will join last year's NBC offering, Raines as a greast show that never found an audience and therefore departed too soon.

I don't know about TV, but Stand Up to Cancer was promoted a lot on local radio stations and the internet. Yahoo and Hollywood Reporter both had a large ad on their front page telling viewers to tune in. So I think that it had at least some promotion.

I saw a commercial for AYSTAFG and it said that there would be a million dollar winner. The commerical aired about everyday during the week. The commerical said take notes:
*moves to Friday
*(dont remember #2)
*and the first million dollar winner

I didn't catch that one. The only one I did see, though, said that this season, there would be a million dollar winner, but it didn't suggest that it would be the season opener.

CBS has been succeeding on Friday nights for quite a while now.

WIPEOUT has only had one original episode over the last 5 weeks (w/ 3 repeats and a clips show).

EIther ABC is finding new ways to kill their shows by changing the originally scheduled new episodes with repeats.

Are You Smarter Than FOX on Fridays? Smackdown almost beat 90210

Make no mistake about it FOX's problem on Fridays seems to have been finally solved. Now FOX can have a dominant Friday and Saturday lineup. FOX might be the only network to have all 7 days ratings worthy this year since earlier in the decade when CBS had The District on Saturdays, which was the last successful scripted original series on Saturday nights.

I got my 2nd prediction right as AYSTA5G got between 7-9 million viewers. This is a show kids can watch with their families every Friday and make Don't Forget the Lyrics apart of their Friday night plans too. This is successful news for FOX and the 5th Grader franchise. If I were FOX I would run 5th Grader on Thursdays and Fridays in November.

FOX may also want to rethink putting Bones with the comedies on Fridays this winter. They should think about Thursdays with Bones and the comedies.

FOX might be ruling Friday nights with CBS as FOX's MyNetworkTV will have Smackdown, which almost beat 90210 believe it or not on a Friday. What will be funny is if SD could still be CW's #1 show next with a week of originals for the network. There's no doubt about it CW will miss MNTV. This is the highest SD rating since early spring before the baseball pre-emptions. It all begins October 3 when the new 5th place network begins its new run of success.

Other than FOX's 5th Grader and SD on CW there was nothing to be happy about. Stand Up to Cancer did a good job considering it was not exclusive to one network, which would've helped the numbers. Kickoff Special should've ran on Sunday morning before the Sunday afternoon games. CBS Fall Preview got a decent viewership number I don't know what the disappointment is about for something that wasn't advertised. A little disappointed in Old Christine numbers too.

ABC got good millage out of 20/20 so good for them and CBS with the always reliable NUMB3RS.

I don't follow the ratings for this show at all, so excuse my confusion. Why is this so great? The numbers themselves are good, but the 3 other networks were airing the same fund-raiser and some reruns. Surely these numbers will drop considerably when the other nets start airing new material.

Why all the excitement?

The two episode season-premiere of Fox’s Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? led Fox to Friday victory, with an average 7.57 million viewers and a 2.0 rating/7 share among adults 18-49 from 8-10 p.m. Given Fox’s former Friday night woes, this is a real positive for the network. Congrats, J.P.!

Well they didn't want to waste new eps against the Olympics and I think they were honestly worried about some of the big premieres this past week so they just decided to air a new 2 hour ep this week. What they could've done is hold on that clip special and go with a new ep the final week. Then promote that new eps were 2 weeks away and then just air a new episode per week after that. This week then they could've ended it with the clips show.
