I hope it returns. I'd love to see how low it could go. Pair it with Big Brother after Jericho is done and I'll be set!

Memo to Mr. Moonves: why not sked Viva Laughlin on Thursdays at 10 pm and try to win back the W18-34 demo that ABC's Big Shots keeps winning hands down?

Viva Laughlin started up a really interesting mystery for almost seven million viewers, and then it left us there, hanging, unsatisfied in the resolution we deserved, teased into a musical-dramatic odyssey that would never be unfolded.

I, like Miss Melanie Griffith, get the feeling I've been cheated.

Don't make fun of Futurama. It was and is better than all of the current FOX animated fare.

I like Family Guy best but American Dad imo has been the best of the bunch when its at its best. Then at other times, its the worst. Very very unstable.

That would be the perfect night.
Lead off with Jericho, followed by Viva Laughlin, and closing with Cane.

A nightly average of about 5 million viewers and a 1.6 demo

Kind of sounds like ABC's Tuesday night results. Wink

This is the first I have heard about the WGA demanding the right to hold sympathy strikes. How could they have possibly expected to get that ok'ed when the other deals (DGA/SAG) were set to expire? If the WGA takes Reality TV and sympathy strike demands off the table, I see no reason why they shouldn't be able to proceed towards an end to the strike very soon.

I read that too and thought, the WGA negotiating team must be insane. There was no way the AMPTP would okay the sympathy strike. I agree. I think we will be seeing this strike end soon and I think one of those reasons is the Oscars coming up.

Peace!!

I wondered at the time if it was simply a negotiating tactic, that the WGA intended on backing off on these demands later on to appear to be giving in to the AMPTP. But that never happened - or had a chance to happen.

No keep the crappy Cane away from it. That show moves slower than the old folks who were watching it.

Interesting how we're seeing more and more MNTV wins over CW. A couple decent shows averaging 3 million could start giving them weekly wins.

Exactly. All they need to find is their "ANTM" and/or "Smackdown".

Even though I don't watch any shows on the net, it is nice to see them get things turned around into the right direction. Sorry Dumont & X, but those telenovels were just a terrible idea.

Wednesday 8 p.m.
American Idol (Fox) – Viewers: 30.28 million, A18-49: 15.5/36

Hey, Marc, in your Wednesday 8pm rundown, I believe you mistakenly used the year-ago A18-49 numbers instead of this years...

No chance of moving into a leadership position if all this crap is renewed. MIT should have been cancelled last season -- and there is no justification for returning marginal weak players, like WMC, PD and DSM.

You haven't mentioned SW -- which plummeted once it lost its Dancing lead-in. What they must do is rethink their entire program strategy if they hope to turn this ship around.

Neither show is returning. The shows that benefit from this show tanking are Pushing Daisies, Private Practice, and Dirty Sexy Money, all of which are more likely to return. Ditto for Men in Trees, which if it hits 7 million, will likely get at least another 13. I also think the likes of Wife Swap and Supernanny, which do very well away from Idol, will get renewed. Women's Murder Club as well because it pulls CBS-like audiences away from the eye on Fridays. All other returning shows will be back save for Jim, Notes, and October Road, which are goners. We may end up with Primetime getting a fall spot too.

Maybe CBS should give it some prune juice.

If that fails, they can always give it some craft service from the "Smith" set. That stuff really works wonders for getting things going. Just ask Nina Tassler!

I agree.

I think SW will be the only comedy that ABC does renew for another season. As for dramas I think there are a lot of ones that are up in the air for renewel that ABC will consider, maybe not just based on ratings alone. I think the only drama pretty much guarenteed not to come back for another season is Big Shots. I think MiT, DSM, OR and WMC (maybe Cashmarie Mafia, too soon to tell) are all on the fence. I don't think ABC would want to get rid of all these at least not at this time not knowing how long the strike is really going to last.

That's it, blame it on the alchohol.

Why should my advocacy for a show I enjoyed be called into question. Have I ever made any mocking comment upon your obsession with Mr. Simmons Family Jewels? No, never have I done so.

Viva Laughlin was one of CBS's grand experiments of the season, and I enjoyed it so much that I would even pay a little stack of greenbacks to see the remaining six episodes...there's one additional episode that was produced that I wasn't aware of.

Covering Reality, Animation, and getting the right to honor other guild's picket lines back (sympathy strike - which we used to have) were never important to the rank and file, they were mostly symbolic. In many ways they were an amateurish bargaining tactic on the guild's side. On the other hand the AMPTP has always known we would take those off the table for a good deal on new media, (and many failed back channel attempts prove this to be true - see Jeffery Katzenberg's foray into mediation) The truth is the same today as it was yesterday - the strike will end when the AMPTP wants it to. What we really want is so minimal we'll get it, but only when the AMPTP has finished it's agenda of: deal flushing, testing the saturation point of reality, and signing a deal with the dga that makes the wga look like the one's who wouldn't bargain. As much as I believe the wga leaders are naive there's no doubt that the other side is responsible for the financial distress being brought to bear on the industry.
