-Ratings Breakdown: CBS opened this second week in February on a winning note, with a first-place finish in both total viewers and adults 18-49 care of its combination of How I Met Your Mother (Viewers: #3, 10.11 million; A18-49: #2, 3.8 rating/10 share), Accidentally on Purpose (Viewers: #3, 9.23 million; A18-49: #3, 3.4/ 8), which is moving to Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. to make room for benchwarmer Rules of Engagement, Two and a Half Men (Viewers: #1, 17.55 million; A18-49: #1, 5.7/13), The Big Bang Theory (Viewers: #1, 16.20 million; A18-49: #1, 6.0/14) and CSI: Miami (Viewers: #1, 13.46 million; A18-49: #1, 3.9/10). Rule of Engagement returns on March 1.
While the rating results remain positive for Two and a Half Men, the personal problems for Emmy nominated star Charlie Sheen continue to escalate. Yesterday he was charged with felony menacing and two misdemeanors (assault and criminal mischief) in connection with a Christmas Day incident involving alleged domestic assault against his wife. If convicted of the felony charge, he could face up to three years in prison.
Second-place ABC was on the map as a result of growing The Bachelor: On the Wings of Love, which averaged a healthy 12.33 million viewers and a 4.1/10 among adults 18-49 from 8-10 p.m., and respectable Castle (Viewers: #2, 9.48 million; A18-49: #2, 2.6/ 7 at 10 p.m.). Take a look at the half-hour breakdown for The Bachelor, which built in every half hour:
The Bachelor: On the Wings of Love (ABC) 8:00 p.m. – Viewers: 11.20 million (#2), A18-49: 3.5/ 9 (#3) 8:30 p.m. – Viewers: 12.03 million (#2), A18-49: 4.0/10 (#2) 9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 12.52 million (#2), A18-49: 4.2/10 (#2) 9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 13.57 million (#2), A18-49: 4.6/11 (#2)
Who knew The Bachelor would remain so resilient.
Also worthy of positive mention last night was Fox’s line-up of House (Viewers: #1, 13.55 million; A18-49: #1, 5.1/13), which has a winning lock in the 8 p.m. hour among adults 18-49, and compatible 24 (Viewers: #3, 10.18 million; A18-49: #3, 3.2/ 8).
Over at NBC it went from bad to worse with its line-up of Chuck (Viewers: #4, 6.60 million; A18-49: #4, 2.3/ 6), the season (or series) finale of Heroes (Viewers: #4, #4, 4.41 million; A18-49: #4, 2.1/ 5), and the second-to-last episode of The Jay Leno Show (Viewers: #3, 4.31 million; A18-49: #1, 1.2/ 3). If NBC really wants to move forward, it needs to officially cancel Heroes, which has been struggling for two years now. Let it go and move ahead.
Last was CW with original episodes of dramas One Tree Hill (Viewers: 2.22 million; A18-49: 1.1/ 3) and recently introduced Life Unexpected (Viewers: 2.01 million; A18-49: 0.9/ 2). While I recognize who The CW’s target audience is, the female audience cannot be that large based on these results.
Ratings: 'Big Bang' Just Won't Quit By: Josef Adalian
"The Big Bang Theory" just keeps getting bigger, scoring another record Monday thanks to a Super-sized promo push.
CBS's geek-centric comedy notched a 6.0 rating/14 share among adults 18-49, its largest rating yet and the biggest demo number this season for any live action comedy. "Big" was one of a number of CBS shows that got a major push during the Eye's record-smashing broadcast of the Super Bowl.
How big is "Bang"? Consider that it was just over a year ago, in January 2009, that CBS was putting out press releases noting record-high numbers for the show -- based on a 4.4 rating. The series is now regularly scoring in the mid-5s, demo-wise, and has now surged into the 6 territory.
If your last name is Lorre or Prady, or you work in the syndication unit of Warner Bros. Television, you can feel free to just burn some cash for heat today, if you so care. Because there's no reason local stations shouldn't be signing over their firstborns to land a piece of the "Bang" when it hits off-net syndication in about two years or so.

Thank-you Superbowl promotion!

Great numbers again for the Bachelor. Castle remains a modest performer and one of ABC's better 10pm shows.

I'm surprised that CSI:Miami didn't do over a 4 last night. Is it because 10pm is just that much harder, people realizing CSI:Miami sucks, or an overkill of CSI shows taking its toll?

Probably all of the above. Miami's demo is no doubt due to its great lead-in. It is the highest rated CSI in demo, which pains me to admit. The show is stupid. Castle has taken some of the crime viewers; I hope L&O takes more. Chuck's numbers aren't that impressive, but I do think it's a little better than last year; and I love it.

Don't let anyone tell me there is no such thing as a Super Bowl bounce. The Men and BBT numbers are monster numbers. HIMYM and AOP and CSI: Miami got small bounces, but still a bounce.
Originally posted by robert: Doesn't look good for LUX. And i cannot imaginne CW not reneweing OTH, even with further costing cuts
And yes another high for BBT but that's beacause it has a fantastic lead in. Impressive for Men
NBC really needs to start from scrtach next season. Both Chuck and Heroes are doing terrible
The Men lead in is great, but no other CBS sitcom in the past several years could retain more than about 80% of Men's numbers. BBT builds on them so it is not all lead in.

I think you're overrating the flow of the hours and not looking at the arc of Miami. The verdict is in on it. When it was big, it did its numbers above and beyond the 930 show, and cannot now really benefit from the boost now. This is just one of those hours a show has to itself, for better or for worse, somewhat similar to SVU at tuesday 10pm when it was big.

I have to admit that the Bachelor has become a guilty pleasure in my house. Even though I know who will be the last woman standing, there is just to much crazy drama to look away.

The 10:00 hour will never be that big of a ratings hour again. People use it as their DVR hour to watch the stuff they recorded earlier in the evening. However, CSI : Miami and Private Practice get the best demos of any 10:00 shows every week, and they have the biggest lead ins from BBT and GA, so lead in from 9:30 shows still help.
While Heroes needs to go more than Chuck, Chuck still needs to go.
Leno is still there (for a bit longer), and Castle sinks back to 2.6--renewed it may be, but dependent on a strong lead-in and little competition it remains--and even with those advantages, it's not a successful show. It's well below the 3.0 revised minimum standard laid out by an ABC exec recently. But success and renewal are not the same thing, as anybody who follows ratings knows--how many times have we seen perennial 'losers' go on to another season of failure here?
Should NBC have renewed Heroes and Chuck? Nope, but it did anyway. Networks make a lot of mistakes, in case y'all haven't noticed.

If NBC is happy with a show that is consistently in the 6.5 million range and demos in the mid 2's then Chuck will be around for a while. Chuck has shown no growth in the three years it has been on the air. It has its loyal, dedicated, fanatical fan base, but nothing more. It will never grow into much more than it is now. If NBC is happy with that then they will keep it. If it was me I would look for a new hit show with growth potential. However, this is NBC. I am sure it stays.
