Law & Order (#1: 7.9/13). Considering that Law & Order faced a repeat of CBS’ CSI: NY (5.3/ 9), the overnight results could have been better.
Marc, can a day go by where you don't unjustifiably blast NBC? Today you say Law and Order should have done better. It's overnight rating was 50% higher than CSI:NY. It grew from its lead in by 40%. And with other networks you love to give praise comparing results to prior year results. One year ago in the comparable week Law and Order's overnight results was a 5.9 (granted this was on a Friday). Which was a gain of about 35%. And if you compare Law and Order to last years time period holder, Medium, it was also a huge improvement (don't have the number, but I know it was a huge gain).
For some reason we always hear praise for FOXs shows on Thursdays b/c of huge year to year improvement, but that same reasoning does not hold for NBC.
When will you get over your hatred towards NBC and report on a level playing field?
Wow...that was a lot of bashing for a fairly innocuous comment from Marc.

Once the new episodes start hitting (Before the other nets mind you), The demo number will start heading back up.
But the consensus was that they would be least affected by the strike because their shows, being in repoeats, were stike-proof (repeats wouldn't effect viewership).
I don't think anyone thought that the Viewer levels would remain the SAME from originals to repeats. But we did think the repeat levels would do just fine, and they have.
Each network, I believe, had a different agenda during the strike. CBS's was to ride out the storm, knowing they would be just fine in the end.
I would bet they lost a lot less money (if any) than either NBC or ABC did, and did it with repeat programming. As aggressive as NBC was, The best they could do was stay even with CBS. CBS has had the slight edge over ABC, in the demo, since the end of November. CBS has still beat out delivering Viewers over ABC and NBC this whole time.

I have a really hard time believing that CBS was happy with CSI:Miami dropping to 8 million or a recent ep of CSI:NY dropping to 10 million. And I know Moonves, who is youth nuts, is not happy with that demo ranking. Its the exact reason why Big Brother was brought in.

I agree on the CSI:Miami drop. I don't think anyone saw it doing that. And it could be the one show on CBS hurt most by the strike. but the one CSI:NY episodes was a fluke. The "Exception", not "The Norm"
But beyond that, the shows have been performing decently in the current environment.
It will be a fun sprint to the end of the season as the new episodes start to fill the broadcast air on ALL the nets.

That lead is less than 200K viewers and CBS will be far out ahead of everyone else with new episodes on their shows, so I would not crown FOX just yet.

FOX has Idol for awhile to keep it competitive. Still, the FOX lead is only because of the Superbowl effect.

Yes with Fox already secured first, the second place finish is what's to watch. CBS, which gets new stuff on first, should take a slight lead, but I believe ABC's strength of Thursday and Sunday night, not to mention Dancing filling Monday and Tuesday will propel them to second in the demo. The key will be what the chimps at ABC do on Fridays. If they leave the repeats there it could cost them second on the season. If they place something like Primetime in at least one of the hours and maybe Duel in another, then they may end up alright. Their planned Wed. lineup of Wife Swap, Supernanny, and Men in Trees should hold about current levels.

I guess we can agree that NBC will be swept back to 4th place by the end of the season then.

Maybe, but in a strike year, I don't think its that big of a deal.
Now, if they lost it to NBC.... then they SHOULD be angry.
After reading the news that the CW or TNT could pick up FNL, I am wondering what are really the odds of that happening? Just curious. Or is it all just talk to make NBC look good?
Way too sensitive AL. Nothing here is bashing, and yeah, the results could have been better, but it's hardly saying they were bad or awful. As I recall before, Marc mentioned that Law & Order's numbers were quite impressive and something about the show being a shoo-in for another season. (I'm paraphrasing)
As for NBC in general. The are in Last place here (of the Big 4) so why would one be expecting so much praise for that accomplishment?
Also, when someone constantly is negative to you and sending nastigram messages about every post or comment they make, they tend to take them less seriously.
