Prime-Time Ratings:
Tuesday 2/19/08

The following results are based on the fast affiliate ratings (Live Plus Same Day data)

-Total Viewers:
Fox: 28.84 million, NBC: 8.54, CBS: 7.40, ABC: 5.46, CW: 2.34

-Adults 18-49:
Fox: 11.2 rating/27 share, NBC: 3.3/ 8, CBS: 2.0/ 5, ABC: 1.5/ 4, CW: 1.0/ 3

----------

Note: Any prior rating results are based on the final nationals. Also, since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 9 percent in early 2006-07 to approximately 20 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted.

----------

-Yesterday’s Winners:
American Idol (Fox), Law & Order: SVU R (NBC)

-Honorable Mention:
NCIS R (CBS), The Biggest Loser 5 (NBC)

-Yesterday’s Losers (Excluding Repeats):
Just For Laughs (ABC), Big Brother 9 (CBS), According to Jim (ABC), Carpoolers (ABC), Jericho (CBS)

----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
Fox stood well above the Tuesday competition, with a two-hour edition of American Idol averaging a hefty 28.84 million viewers and an 11.2 rating/27 share among adults 18-49 from 8-10 p.m. Comparably, that outdelivered the four competing networks combined. As for the initial 12 male performers, Jason Yeager and Leif Garrett look-alike Garrett Haley would we wise to start packing. The best of the bunch (and the early favorites): teen David Archuleta and 29-year old Michael Johns.

In the very distant No. 2 spot was NBC with its combination of a two-hour edition of The Biggest Loser (Viewers: 8.15 million; A18-49: 3.4/ 8 from 8-10 p.m.), which built in every half-hour, and a repeat of Law & Order: SVU (Viewers: #1, 9.30 million; A18-49: #1, 3.4/ 9 at 10 p.m.). Take a look at the half hour breakdown of The Biggest Loser vs. American Idol.

The Biggest Loser
8:00 p.m. Viewers: 6.85 million (#3), A18-49: 2.7/ 7 (#2)
8:30 p.m. Viewers: 7.53 million (#3), A18-49: 3.2/ 8 (#2)
9:00 p.m. Viewers: 8.88 million (#2), A18-49: 3.7/ 9 (#2)
9:30 p.m. Viewers: 9.36 million (#2), A18-49: 3.9/ 9 (#2)

American Idol
8:00 p.m. Viewers: 26.51 million (#1), A18-49: 10.0/27 (#1)
8:30 p.m. Viewers: 28.49 million (#1), A18-49: 11.1/27 (#1)
9:00 p.m. Viewers: 30.72 million (#1), A18-49: 12.0/28 (#1)
9:30 p.m. Viewers: 29.65 million (#1), A18-49: 11.7/27 (#1)

American Idol clearly rules, but The Biggest Loser deserves accolades for building in every half hour.

CBS got off to a positive start last night, with a repeat of old faithful NCIS at 10.85 million viewers (#2) and a 2.2/ 6 among adults 18-49 (#3). But the combination of Big Brother and Jericho took a hit from 9-11 p.m., with Big Brother: ‘Til Death Do Us Part at 5.42 million viewers (#3) and a 2.0/ 5 among adults 18-49 (#3) at 9 p.m. (#3) and episode two of season two of Jericho at an equally disappointing 5.94 million viewers (#3) and a 2.0/ 5 in the demo (#2) at 10 p.m. One week earlier, Jericho opened with 7.08 million viewers and a 2.6/ 7 among adults 18-49. CBS would have been better off finding an earlier time period for Jericho.

ABC remained dead in the water from 8-10 p.m. care of Just For Laughs (two episodes: original and repeat – Viewers: #4, avg. 4.58 million; A18-49: #4, avg. 1.3/ 3), According to Jim (Viewers: #4, 4.83 million; A18-49: #4, 1.6/ 4) and Carpoolers (Viewers: #4, 3.95 million; A18-49: #4, 1.4/ 3). Why ABC bothered to give According to Jim another season is one of the mysteries of this season. Boston Legal capped off the evening for the alphabet net second at 10 p.m., with 7.43 million viewers (#2) and a last-place 1.9/ 5 among adults 18-49.

Unfortunately, the CW had nothing unusual to report with its line-up of a repeat of Reaper (Viewers: #5, 1.79 million; A18-49: #5, 0.8/ 2) and serial One Tree Hill (Viewers: #5, #5, 2.90 million; A18-49: #5, 1.3/ 3). Worth noting for One Tree Hill was growth of 1.11 million viewers and 62 percent in the demo out of the Reaper encore.

CBS is really going to be hurting because they chose to bring on 3hours per week of Big Brother into their non-summer lineup.

Side note for TV-aholic: I hear that Gene Simmons' Family Jewels are now out on video. Wink

OTH is still doing great Big Grin!! I'm really happy with this season's content and ratings! They're like the 3rd best show rating-wise on the CW during these past weeks. The growth of 1.11 million out of a repeat is really something (in CW standars of course :P).

Also, the winter run of Big Brother might end up hurting the summer edition due to overexposure. But they show never really got good ratings anyway in the summer.

Marc, I think the Law & Order: SVU repeat should be a winner or HM as well(Viewers: #1, 9.30 million; A18-49: #1, 3.4/ 9 at 10 p.m.) -- it's demo rating would be great for a first-run procedural, but it's awesome for a repeat. And it placed #1 in both categories...

Almost Everything else is in repeats. The real question for CW is how Americ'a Next Top Model will be received tonight. It is up against Idol's female singers for the next two weeks and it has to overcome the stigma of the last season. Can ANTM do that and lift the sinking ship that is the CW? If it does, the rest of the CW lienup should benefit with a ratings rise as well.

I doubt they will cancel it before the 7 episodes are completed. The replacement would just be another crime drama repeat which is already littered all over their schedule.

I'm pretty sure those AI numbers are lower than last week, and defintely lower than last year. I thought last week's turnaround might be a sign of an overall turnarounf for AI, but it looks like it was just a 1-week bump...

I'm guessin that ANTM would keep most of its last season ratings, cuz the ANTM watchers are pretty loyal to the show, even if they're facing off with the female contenstants of AI.

Even though I don't actually like the show, I'd have to say that Jericho holding all of BB's demo rating and actually building onto its viewers is a good sign. CBS may actually want to try swapping their timeslots to see if they do any better. BB is what is failing the night, not Jericho.

It looks like AI got off to a strong start for the Top 24 round. I thought at least 5 of the guys could go tonight. Garrett Haley (how did this guy make it and not Josiah is beyond me), Luke M., Jason Yaeger, Eze and his suit, or Danny N. I think the guys have 4 solid chances at winning, Dave A., Michael Johns, the Jason C, and David H. I think it will be David A or one of the girls winning this year. Why did they do a 60's theme? I thought that was pretty dumb so soon. Did anyone else notice that Carly was absent from the audience?? Wonder if her record deal backlash has caused AI to do something.

CBS looks pretty bad with BB9 and Jericho. BB9 is definately a summer show. Jericho should not be on that late. Like I said before, I think CBS put Jericho there to kill anyways so there wouldn't be a debate for next season.

NBC did pretty well for Biggest Loser. I think that's pretty decent counter programming against AI. Not that expensive and they can pump out episodes pretty fast.

ABC is just plain sad. I feel bad for Boston Legas without any support on the night what-so-ever.

Oh, Yes. You can get the first 2 seasons on DVD.

And don't forget... Season 3 premieres Tuesday March 11th at 10pm, with back-to-back episodes.

Will we ger the 4th and final report from X the day after????

I wonder if a simple switching of time periods for the two shows (on Tuesday) would help both.

At least Jericho is somewhat compatible with NCIS and BB9 could then get the leftovers from the AI audience.
