Analysis: HIMYM is just as strong of an 8pm show as BBT, while AOP is a goner despite actually being funny these past few weeks.

The 5 main actors' contracts were up for re-negotiation at the beginning of this season (7). The 2 actors (Chad Murray and Hilarie Burton) were offered to return to the show, but the actors did not accept the offers.

The show made the decision to continue without those 2 actors and so far, I believe this was a good decision on the part of the network. OTH, though it is down from year-to-year, is currently outperforming (on average) Gossip Girl, 90210, and Melrose Place which all are younger shows with more buzz.

I believe that any audience erosion has more to do with the overall problems at the CW rather than the actual cast changes.

Where it's going to be anyway, eventually. It's a dull show, getting dull ratings.

Castle is barely hanging on with just CSI Miami and Jay Leno for competition, and DWTS as a lead-in. It's dead the moment it leaves that timeslot. And ABC has plenty of warm bodies to replace it with, whether at midseason, or next fall.

ABC's crappy development is rapidly sending it down the same road NBC has already gone.
