It is the HUT levels (houses using TV's) that determine the viewers. 1.7 of more houses using TV could be higher than say a 1.8 of less houses using TV. The 1.7 and 1.8 are basically percentages, but the difference is the percentage of what. If the whole universe of viewers is bigger the 1.7 could represent a higher amount of viewers than 1.8 of a lower universe of viewers.

What will happen is the Bachelor will be the lead in with higher demos and probably a higher rated Castle.
This is one of the oldest-skewing dramas on the air. Younger viewers just don't want it, and never will. And by 'younger', I mean "haven't had a 50th birthday yet."
I know there are many Castle fans who were disappointed last Monday when the preliminary 3.0 adults 18-49 rating dropped to a 2.2 rating in the finals. Don’t be too surprised if last night’s 2.4 rating drops somewhere to around a 2.2 as well due to a minute or two of Dancing With the Stars overrun that will be stripped out in the final numbers.
Cartwheel all you like Dumont. There's been no documented climb yet, steady or otherwise. And maybe that end zone metaphor was unfortunately chosen?

A younger lead in will help bring more younger viewers to Castle. Either way, it doing better than any drama to ever air behind Dancing (save for a few seasons of Boston Legal). It's going nowhere anytime soon.
They only like the total viewer numbers for press releases. The advertisers don't give a sh*t about them and will only look at demos. Since advertisers pretty much own network TV exec's balls these days (and every day since the beginning of TV), the demos are all the networks need. HIMYM could pull 5 million viewers but if the demos remained the same, it would continue to get renewed.

They still market Two and a Half Men as the # 1 sitcom, while we all know that we have a new # 1 sitcom where it counts.

Thanks for continuing to post this. I think the way Marc is writing up that 8:00 hour is really silly.
I am pleased to see Castle holding steady. ABC would be fools to can it if it holds this audience. Steady at a moderate level is more than ABC can claim for a majority of their new shows over the past few years, so they should definitely hang onto Castle if it can keep this up.
ABC can't make money with this level of performance. If every scripted show performed as well as Castle, ABC would either have to get rid of scripted altogether, or go off the air.
It's got the audience it's got, and it just isn't good enough.

Care to post any actual data proving they aren't making money on it? Or are you just blowing smoke up our a$$es like you always do? The latter you say? That's what I thought.
mushu, I had NO idea you were such a Nathan Fillion groupie.
The simple reality is that demo sets the ad rates. Demo is low. Costs for a network drama like this are high. DVD sales are miniscule for the first season. Repeats get basement ratings. They are not making money off it. With data like this, the burden of proof is on YOU.

Brothers and Sisters moves to Wednesday - just as the Kitty story reaches a climax to ensure that the audience moves with it.
