-Ratings Breakdown: It was all about The Grammy Awards on dominant CBS last night, with the 52nd annual festivities at a whopping 26.61 million viewers and a 10.0 rating/24 share among adults 18-49 from 8-11 p.m. Comparably, that outdelivered the year-ago telecast (Viewers: 19.05 million; A18-49: 7.4/18 on Feb. 8, 2009) by a considerable 7.56 million viewers and 35 percent in the demo. Take a look at the half-hour breakdown:
The 52nd Annual Grammy Awards (CBS) 8:00 p.m. – Viewers: 25.41 million (#1), A18-49: 9.0/22 (#1) 8:30 p.m. – Viewers: 28.33 million (#1), A18-49: 10.4/24 (#1) 9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 27.31 million (#1), A18-49: 10.1/22 (#1) 9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 28.25 million (#1), A18-49: 10.7/24 (#1) 10:00 p.m. – Viewers: 27.10 million (#1), A18-49: 10.5/25 (#1) 10:30 p.m. – Viewers: 23.26 million (#1), A18-49: 9.3/24 (#1)
Earlier in the evening on CBS was older skewing old faithful 60 Minutes at 12.35 million viewers (#1) and a second-place 2.2/ 6 among adults 18-49 from 7-8 p.m.
Second-place ABC, which battled The Grammys with an all original slate of programming, took a hit, no doubt. Veteran America’s Funniest Home Videos remains a keeper at 7 p.m., with 8.83 million viewers (#2) and a first-place 2.4/ 7 among adults 18-49 at 7 p.m. Like Cops and America’s Most Wanted, this show will outlive us all! AFHV led into aging Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (Viewers: #2, 8.53 million; A18-49: #3, 2.2/ 5 at 8 p.m.), followed by Desperate Housewives (Viewers: #2, 11.43 million; A18-49: #2, 3.7/ 8) and Brothers & Sisters (Viewers: #2, 7.72 million; A18-49: #2, 2.4/ 6) from 9-11 p.m. Worth positively noting for Desperate Housewives, of course, is the ongoing solid growth out of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.
Without football, NBC has its work cut out on Sunday. With that in mind, a two-hour edition of Dateline barely delivered, with 4.76 million viewers (#3) and a 0.9/ 2 among adults 18-49 (#3) from 7-9 p.m. That led into two-hour special, SNL Presents: Sports All-Stars at an embarrassing 3.06 million viewers and a 1.1/ 3 in the demo from 9-11 p.m. Here is the half-hour breakdown for the SNL special:
Fox opened the evening with back-to-back episodes of sitcom ‘Til Death at a mere (and last-place) 2.28 million viewers and a 0.8/ 2 among adults 18-49 from 7-8 p.m. Opposite The Grammy Awards, Fox’s animated slate lost steam as follows:
Fox/Sunday 8:00 p.m.: The Simpsons – Viewers: 5.11 million (#3), A18-49: 2.4/ 6 (#2) 8:30 p.m.: The Cleveland Show – Viewers: 4.53 million (#4), A18-49: 2.2/ 5 (#3) 9:00 p.m.: Family Guy – Viewers: 6.21 million (#3), A18-49: 3.2/ 7 (#3) 9:30 p.m.: American Dad – Viewers: 5.06 million (#3), A18-49: 2.5/ 5 (#3)

@bhofheimer_espn: ESPN's Pro Bowl overnight rtg: 7.9 mtrd mkt avg. +39% over last yr's 5.7 on NBC. Wow! I'd say one vote in success column for new format
It shouldn't do any worse. I expect an increase from the ratings, as long as they are comparable to ESPN and not a broadcast to Cable network.

I know I watched more Pro Bowl action last night than I have in the last 5 years combined.
Once the Super Bowl is over, the Mind set of fans is that football is over. At least this the game on the week before gives fans a taste of football action before the SB.
