-Ratings Breakdown:
Fox, as usual, took top-rated honors on Tuesday. Second in total viewers and adults 18-49 was ABC, followed by CBS, NBC and the CW. But powerhouse American Idol actually took a hit against of the first hour of an expanded Dancing With the Stars on ABC, with 21.25 million viewers and an 8.2 rating/23 share from 8-9 p.m. Compared to one year earlier, that was a decrease of 4.22 million viewers (25.47 to 21.25 million) and 12 percent among adults 18-49 (9.3/28 to 8.2/23).
Second in the 8 p.m. time period was CBS’ always reliable NCIS (Viewers: 13.79 million; A18-49: 2.8/ 8), followed by first hour of the 100th episode celebration of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars (10.50 million; A18-49: 2.4/ 7), two episodes (original and repeat) of NBC’s low-rated Most Outrageous Moments (Viewers: avg. 4.21 million; A18-49: avg. 1.3/ 4), and soon-to-depart Beauty and the Geek on the CW (Viewers: 1.63 million; A18-49: 0.7/ 2).
At 9 p.m., the regularly scheduled portion of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars shared leadership with Hell’s Kitchen on Fox as follows:

As for Dancing With the Stars, how do you like survivor Marissa Jaret Winokur? No wonder why Sony Pictures Television has signed her to host a daytime talk show in fall 2009.
Third in the 9-10 p.m. was CBS’ recently relocated Shark (Viewers: 10.43 million; A18-49: 2.2/ 5), which is performing similarly to former occupant The Unit, followed by a repeat of Law & Order: SVU on NBC (Viewers: 4.06 million; A18-49: 1.4/ 4), and the CW’s Reaper (Viewers: 2.47 million; A18-49: 1.0/ 3). Worth noting for Reaper was growth out of Beauty and the Geek of 840,000 viewers and 43 percent among adults 18-49.
The regularly scheduled edition of NBC’s Law & Order: SVU won the 10 p.m. hour, with 10.44 million viewers and a 3.5/10 in the demo. Second was ABC’s relocated Women’s Murder Club (Viewers: 8.68 million; A18-49: 2.2/ 6), followed by a repeat of CSI: Miami on CBS at 7.62 million viewers and a 1.9/ 5 among adults 18-49. Comparably, retention for Women’s Murder Club out of the second half of lead-in Dancing With the Stars (Viewers: 18.54 million; A18-49: 4.6/11 at 9:30 p.m.) was just 47 percent in viewers and 48 percent among adults 18-49.
