They sure did and so did CBS with Shark.

But at which time for Shark did most people see promos for???? The original 9pm promos, the followup 10pm start times or the quickly and recently changed back to 9pm promos?

Something like "Check local listings".
Just a reminder that Viacom spun off CBS and it is CBS that has the 50% stake in The CW, Not Viacom.

I wonder if the GG spot was a local spot that was on an ABC affiliate, which may also own the local CW affiliate.

I know my CW affiliate here in Michigan is owned by our ABC affiliate. CW61

When local stations promote shows on other networks because of common local station ownership, I doubt that advertising comes at any cost to the network. So, again, CW is not spending a dime to advertise on ABC.

Side note on advertising: you see a lot of product placement in TV shows where certain items show up on screen in exchange for money (example: theose hybrid cars that show up in all the CW shows). however, you usually don't see TV shows showing up as product placements inside the advertisements. Tonight, CW is featuring an ad for Degree deoderant starring Ashley Tinsdale and the ad references protection during the 'OMG moments' in life.

Even with a duopoly, I'd be shocked, I tell you, SHOCKED if the ABC affiliate promoted a prime time show on The CW against its own prime time. It's just not done in Promoland. At best, there would be cross promotion for local programming, but not for prime. ABC still pays its affiliates network compensation. The CW doesn't. And if ABC found out that they were using their airtime to promote competing prime time programming, they'd make adjustments to the comp. Depending on market size, the comp can be the difference between profitability and not.

Get your facts straight SN has always performed good on the CW. Except last week of course. Otherwise it has always performed modest ands good against powerhouse CSI and Greys

Actually my facts are quite straight and their isn't a single show I pull more for then Supernatural. But in that adults 18-34 demo it doesn't do well. Thats pure and simple even its peak this year only managed a 1.4 in the adults 18-34.

Currently total viewers Smallville, WWE, Top Model and One Tree Hill (and yes Galveston knows that kills me dead) all have a higher viewer average. On top of that they all have a higher 19-49 demo average, and all of them (plus several others Gossip Girls Pussycat dolls, ect) do better in the 18-34 demo. And you must remember this is the specific demo that the CW is programming for.

And yes I am quite aware of the competition of the Thursday line up (both 8 and 9pm) since i am one of the few people who actually post those numbers on this board in arguements.

The fact that before this last week (where it's viewer average feel below 3 million for the first time. Or the fact thats its reruns average the 2nd highest on the CW, doesn't change the fact that in the demo (specifically the 18-34) it isn't strong it is in fact fairly weak.

And yes its 2nd revenue streams are what have pushed the Warners to pressure the CW in keeping it on the air.

You keep complaining about how much money was spent on GG (I'm still waiting for anyone to give a number on that. I didn't see one off-network ad, so everything I saw was media generated 'free' advertising due to the 'controversy'). In any case, the money has been spent. It makes no sense to claim that CW should ignore the superior ratings becasue they 'bought them'. When it comes time for renewing shows for next year, how much was spent last year is almost irrelevant. All that matters is what viewer/demo/advertising income is projected for next year.

I have actually seen ads for GG on other networks; ABC, MTV, and the N network. So, they are showing them off network.

Peace!

No it was not on the ABC family channel. Here in New Mexico, the locals channels come from El Paso, so they show promos from ANTM, FNS, SV, OTH, GG, and Reaper. They have not aired ones for SN, EHC, AIA, and the other shows. Most of them are aired during daytime, but they still are being aired. And sometimes they air Check Your Local Listings or the day and time the shows are airing have been mentioned.

Ok...so when they advertise a show for the CW on a local affiliate, marketing/promotional money is not used, correct? Ok, that is interesting to know.

Peace!!

Seriously, read his posts. They are not well formed and sound very young.

Not trying to start anything here, but I was just wondering if posters would stop insulting one another? I come here, when I can, to see the ratings and read others opinions about tv shows. I do not come here to read posters insulting one another. Can we just have a nice, analytical, and informative converstation here, without the insults being thrown at each other?

And may I add that we do not know each other personally, so there is no way to know if someone has a disability, that could pretain to spelling or writing of some kind. Everyone is entitled to his/her opinion, whether someone agrees with it or not. Don't always have to agree with it, but I think it needs to be respected.

Peace!!

Yeah right, let's shut up everyone that doesn't agree with you, OK?
IMO Walter has not crossed the line so far, just the fact he doesn't like a show it's not enough reason to ban him.

Loved Denny Crane at the end on why he lives life to the fullest every day: "not to mention some wack job homegrown who can cancel you any second." Smiler

I don't think you have anything to worry about, Denny! Wink

Apparently Boston Legal's return next season, may rest with it's license fee. From USA Today

http://www.usatoday.com/life/television/news/2008-04-30-save-our-shows_N.htm

Legal producer David E. Kelley says his show's fate may rest with a renegotiation of its price tag before ABC's May 13 schedule announcement. "I don't think it's a show that can last forever like Law & Order," he says. "We have stories in the bank that are good for another year or two. After that, we'd have to sit down and see if it's time to stop."

It doesn't happen as much now as it did in the past, but ads using a Character from a show has been around a long time. I think the 50's & 60's where the Hay-Day for this type of advertising. By the early 90's it was mostly gone. I think most Character specific advertising is now limited to the animated Characters (Family Guy w/ Subway - Simpsons w/ Butterfinger)
