Originally posted by gdfriends: lost is now at survivor demo levels...except that show is 16 seasons to losts' 4...and correct me if im wrong but heroes has never gone below a 4.6 demos...so lost in my book is weaker then heroes...(considering lost faced repeats while heroes faced 2.5 men and dwts)
as for lipstick jungle...i would say it was a winner...not a loser...up in ratings/demos/viewers with a so-so lead-in...
Lets wait if Heroes can reach a fourth season and then we talk.
Since you were just comparing Lost (season 4, no competition) to CSI (season 8, tough competition), it seems a bit odd for you to say that someone can't compare Lost and Heroes.
CSI is always going to score better because it's a show you don't need to tune in week to week to follow. Not to mention I believe CSI has stayed in the same time period for it's entire run. Lost has had 4 different time slots in 4 seasons (soon to be 5 time slots) season 1- wed at 8 season 2- wed at 9 season 3- wed at 10 season 4- thu at 9 season 4(part deux) -thu at 10
I think it's amazing it gets the ratings it does factoring in constant change in time periods and the highly detailed storyline which requires you to watch each week. The bottom line is It's around for 2 more seasons after this one and ABC is thrilled with it because the ratings are above average, downloads are strong and DVD sales are very high.
Producers have been told the show is ending its run on the broadcast network, sources said.
CBS will air the season finale on Tuesday with an ending that helps give closure to fans.
After the first season concluded with an abrupt cut to black, fans famously inundated CBS with tens of thousands of pounds of peanuts to urge the network to continue the show. For the seven-episode second season, producers shot two endings – one that leaves viewers in suspense for a third round, another that is more conclusive.
The ending that will air Tuesday night doesn't entirely slam the door on the series and is only slightly different from the cliffhanger version, sources said. The ending also doesn't preclude the possibility of "Jericho" finding a second life on cable, though the economics of the production will likely prevent a continuation of the show.
The most recent episodes of "Jericho" have averaged about a 1.9 rating among adults 18 to 49 during their Tuesdays at 10 p.m. time period.
CBS declined comment, though a formal announcement is expected later today.
I was just starting to have hope for Miss/Guided and then Dumont had to ruin everything with another of his ringing endorsements. Damn! I liked that show.

the two episodes did better than the Lost enhanced encores were doing in the same timeslot;
the two episodes retained 68% of their Tuesday launch viewership (inflated by a large lead-in) and 81% of the Tuesday young adult demo;
the young adult demo grew over the two episodes, while the viewership remained constant;
the series is well-written, acted and highly amusing, and has received good critical feedback.
Also, with regards to Lipstick Jungle, I had read somewhere that NBC has picked up an additional six episodes of the series (or was it merely a script order?).

When a show does an episode that bad, it's no surprise when a lot of fans don't tune in for the next episode, which is unfortunate if the next episode turns out to be good.
Was that the chewing gum cryptonite?
Yep. Kryptonite gum made by one of Smallville's sponsors. (Well, not the Kryptonite part. Kryptonite getting into the gum was an accident.) The gum was a major part of the plot, giving the characters many reasons to hold the package up to the cameras (to make sure we saw it), toss the package around playfully (to make sure we noticed it), and use the company slogan in conversation (so we'd know how long the flavor lasts).
I admit it. While in the store, I paid more attention to that gum than I ever had before. Meaning I actually noticed it. So the sponsor was certainly happy with the episode. Viewers just thought it was really tacky, and felt like it was an hour-long commercial for the gum rather than an actual episode of the show.

I have to start watching that show, who knew there was another great comedy on the CW besides AiA?

I'm almost in complete agreement, just a few changes.

You cant can follow a Sun/Jin centric episodes (which are always pointless interesting and boring exciting), with last nights episode. For the record, the writers should have should never have killed off Jin/ Sunin season 1.. period. As for Miss Guided, it was sort of intresting, but it's no Big Bang Theory or 2.5 men, it's better . I think the biggest problem asset for Miss Guided is that most of the characters are not funny. Aside from In addition to the lead actress and the assistant principal, no one everyone else is funny..
And then theres college basketball, the numbers never seem to reflect on the interest for march madness.

I agree with the first part. Yeserday's episode was horrible, soooo boring and useless tword the story. But i don't agree with the Jin/Sun remark. I actually think Jin/Sun episodes are among the best i've seen on Lost. Including the last one
So let's see.....MEDIUM is NBC's highest rated 18-49 program of the week so far (with a 3.2 in the demo), it built on its lead-in this week, and it's unlikely to be topped by any other NBC show through the rest of the week (Sunday would be the only possibility, and that seems unlikely).
Yet it didn't even warrant an Honorable Mention this week? Huh? Yet L&O was labeled a winner, despite coming in lower than 3.2, and against weaker competition (spin it how you want, but CSI:NY reruns following weak CBS lead-ins are not ever as strong as CSI:Miami reruns following CBS's strong Monday sitcom line-up).

And FOX Thursday gameshows did poorly, if LJ is a loser, so are they.
I think some of the decrease can be attributed to March Madness... nothing CBS has put up against Lost has gotten over a 3.0 in the demo the last several weeks, and basketball got a 3.8 last night.
I think most of it however, is due to the fact that there is a core audience to the show (a heavily DVR'ing core audience, to boot), and this smaller core audience is going to stick with it through the end. You're going to get an uptick for the season premieres and season finales as outsiders tune in to see what the hubbub is about... but then by mid-season it will eventually settle into these types of numbers.
I think the same type of phenomenon, buzz-wize can be attributed to The Office, which has never been able to break-out to consistently above 10 million viewers, but has nice demos.
What is perplexing to me... all my co-workers, immediate family, friends and neighbors watch (or tape) both shows faithfully... yet I don't know a single one of them that are among the 14 - 18 million that watch NCIS or Criminal Minds (to name a few....)
We covered this back on the previous night forums, but thanks for the recap.

I hear ya! And what is perplexing to me is that all of my friends and family watch Paradise Hotel 2 and it really should be the number one show on TV based on that. Nobody I know watches Deal or No Deal and I think they should take it off the air immediately since the ratings system is obviously flawed.

maybe if "lost" keeps dropping it will get the same treatment that "the drew carey show" got from abc, after ordering insane amount of episodes, abc burned off the final episodes in summer, out of order too
