Any chance CW will get some quality Warner Bros. movies or is all the best stuff going to stay with TBS/TNT?

I think Reaper and Supernatural will both end up on Tuesday's next season. The Thursday slot after Smallville will end up with a Smallville spinoff or a 'counter-programming' reality show.

I highly doubt that. I bet what would happen is advertisements every 15 minutes or so, like they do online, the ones where you can't avoid it.
Please explain how advertisements every 15 minutes or so won't be 'avoidable' with a DVR.

Even more ironic when you hear them brag about how much smarter they are because they use a DVR.

Well, unless they are a Nielsen household, it really doesn't matter if they watch it live or on DVR, or download it via torrents.

I'm a Smallville fan, and I can admit that it isn't a great show most of the time. But even when the show isn't great, it can be fun, and a show doesn't have to be Emmy-worthy in order to entertain me.

But ratings and quality often have nothing to do with each other. Some of the best shows ever produced struggled in the ratings, while shows that would rate pretty low on the quality scale have been huge hits.

Why don't networks run constant promotions on the bottom of the screen like PIF has at the top? There would be no way to fast-forward through that.

More and more advertisers are thinking seriously about product placement because, unlike ads, you can't just skip over it. It's part of the show, and part of the scenes.

I actually have no problem with product placement in general, as long as it doesn't go overboard and interfere with the actual show.

Don't you realize how hard it will be for the avid RP fans w/ Nielsen boxes to turn the channel as soon as RP ends and not catch a second of SN, and for the avid SN fans w/ Nielsen boxes to start watching as soon as SN starts and not catch a second of RP?! Razzer

Because, it wouldn't be in the DVR format if it were pay-per-view.

You will see. But I don't think anyone's predictions are going to be completely accurate, seeing as how the world of TV changes every day, unexpectedly.

They already have Justin Hartley in a holding deal, and with Eight Days a Week seeming to go the way of VM S4, why not create a Green Arrow spinoff or some other show starring him? He's already recognizable to the SV audience, so SV might make a good leadin for it.

I don't mind some product placement (having someone drink a Pepsi instead of out of a can that sys "cola," giving the characters specific car, or having the characters use Dell computers), but it can go overboard, especially when it interferes with the storyline or the flow.

Product placement does bring up a few issues that need to be decided/resolved before it becomes a primary means of advertising. For example, how much would it interfere with casting. The guy that was going to voice KITT on the new Knight Rider movie was replaced because he had done an ad for another car company. Could Mercedes do a product placement in Private Practice since Kate Walsh does Lexus commercials? If Coca-Cola was doing product placements in HIMYM, would they let Britney Spears do the guest spot? Or if Coca-Cola had a significant product placement deal with HIMYM and it was canceled, could the actors go straight to a show that has a product placement deal with Pepsi?

Another issue is how product placements can be perceived as celebrity endorsement. What if it's a product the actor doesn't support? If Emily Proctor hates Hummers and thinks everyone should drive hybrids, does she still have to drive a Hummer on CSI: Miami? Should actors get a veto or do they just have to accept whatever ad deals the network makes? After all, it's their face and voice that people are going to associate with the product.

Exactly. Smiler

It's a shame it didn't do better though, since last night we had one great episode.

I have the nerve because Smallville's a mediocre show. Oh, I'd dearly love to switch timeslots with Smallville and see how it performs against original episodes of Lost, CSI, Grey's Anatomy and The Office. Wink Let's see if trying2b can "fix" this quote and make another witty comment. I'll bet he can. He's so clever. Too bad he can't fix Smallville. I'd must rather be paired with Reaper than Smallville.

I wish that were true, and we'd be getting Green Arrow, but The CW doesn't seem interested.

I do have to agree that I'd love a Smallville/Reaper night, too. Supernatural seems to have a very loyal fan base that would follow it most anywhere.

I also don't see any reason for Smallville and Supernatural fans to fight - it's apples and oranges. Considering SPN is up against something like three hit shows, I think their performance is admirable.

I wish they'd do a crossover between the shows at some time, though many might point out the resemblance between Dean Winchester and Jason Teague Wink

Could the CW network as a network be in trouble?

In the grand scheme of things -- Lost was still the number 4 show of the week last week -- wasn't it?

If lipstick jungle had a better lead in, I think it would do better.

I really wish the CW would keep reaper on thursdays. I think supernatural can now stand on it's own.

I'm a fan of both shows, so I can't fight with fans of either one, because that would mean fighting with myself. Smiler

And, as a loyal viewer of SV, I feel perfectly free to say that, sometimes, it just ain't good. (Last week's ep being the perfect example.)
