-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS led this second Sunday in December, finishing first in both total viewers and adults 18-49. ABC and NBC tied for the second and third positions, with Fox in fourth-place and the CW a very distant (and embarrassing) fifth. Have you ever considered Sunday Night Smackdown!, CW? Note: All program ratings for CBS are estimated due to a late start time.
An approximate 30-minute football overrun opened the evening for the Eye net with a very dominant 24.40 million viewers and an 8.1 rating/22 share at 7 p.m. That led into late starts for 60 Minutes (Viewers: #1, 15.92 million; A18-49: #1, 4.3/11 from 7:30-8:30 p.m.), just renewed The Amazing Race 4 (Viewers: #3, 11.87 million; A18-49: #3, 3.8/ 9 from 8:30-9:30 p.m.), Cold Case (Viewers: #2, 11.22 million; A18-49: #3, 3.0/ 7 from 9:30-10:30 p.m.) and Shark (Viewers: #2, 9.00 million; A18-49: #3, 2.2/ 6 in the 10:30 p.m. half hour). Results for the second half of Shark were unavailable. Keep in mind, again, that all program results for CBS are estimated.
Pre-Game Football Night in America on NBC (Viewers: #3, 6.24; A18-49: #3, 2.2/ 6 from 7-8 p.m. / Viewers: #3, 9.96 million; A18-49: #3, 3.9/ 9 at 8 p.m.) opened into a below-average 11.32 million viewers and a 4.5/11 among adults 18-49 for the Colts vs. Ravens match-up on Sunday Night Football.
Over at ABC, America’s Funniest Home Videos (Viewers: #2, 9.14 million; A18-49: #2, 2.6/ 7 at 7 p.m.) and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (Viewers: #2, 12.78 million; A18-49: #1t, 4.4/10 at 8 p.m.) led into made-for Oprah Winfrey Presents Mitch Albom’s For One More Day at a respectable 12.54 million viewers (#1) and a 3.2/ 8 among adults 18-49 (#3) from 9-11 p.m. Comparably, this skewed considerably older than regularly scheduled occupants Desperate Housewives and Brothers & Sisters (which may not be back for months with the writers strike still in full swing).
Fox had nothing unusual to report with its combination of two repeat episodes of King of the Hill (Viewers: #4, 4.50 million; A18-49: #4, 2.0/ 5 from 7-8 p.m.), a repeat of The Simpsons (Viewers: #4, 7.65 million; A18-49: #4, 3.5/ 8), an original installment of King of the Hill (Viewers: #4, 6.54 million; A18-49: #4, 3.1/ 7), a repeat of Family Guy (Viewers: #4, 7.80 million; A18-49: #2, 3.9/ 9) and American Dad (Viewers: #4, 6.48 million; A18-49: #2t, 3.2/ 7). Worth noting for the Family Guy encore was growth of 1.26 million viewers and 26 percent among adults 18-49 from should-be-retired lead-in King of the Hill.
Last, and very least, was the CW’s line-up of CW Now (Viewers: 802,000; A18-49: 0.3/ 1), a repeat of Aliens in America (Viewers: 846,000; A18-49: 0.3/ 1), Life Is Wild (Viewers: 1.17 million; A18-49: 0.4/ 1), and a repeat of America’s Next Top Model (Viewers: 1.80 million; A18-49: 0.8/ 2). No…it doesn’t get much worse than that!
