-Ratings Breakdown: ABC and CBS dominated this final night of the Nov. 2007 sweeps, with CBS the most-watched network (inching past ABC by just 120,000 viewers) and ABC a solid first among adults 18-49. NBC and Fox shared the No. 3 and 4 spots, respectively, while the CW finished in the distant last-place position.
Animated Shrek the Halls debuted on ABC with an impressive (and dominant) 21.06 million viewers and a 7.2 rating/20 share among adults 18-49 8 p.m. Comparably, I don’t not recall any holiday special on ABC ever performing this well. That led into a repeat of classic How the Grinch Stole Christmas at a first-place 18.74 million viewers and a 6.8/17 in the demo at 8:30 p.m. Comparably, the two half-hours combined outdelivered year-ago occupant Show Me the Money (Viewers: 7.69 million; A18-49: 2.2/ 6 on Nov. 29, 2006 -- remember that turkey?) by a significant 12.21 million viewers and 218 percent among adults 18-49.
Also in the 8 p.m. hour was NBC’s annual (and older skewing) Christmas in Rockefeller Center with 8.98 million viewers (#2) and a 2.0/ 6 among adults 18-49 (#5), CBS’ disappointing Kid Nation (Viewers: #3, 7.29 million; A18-49: #4, 2.1/ 6), and two episodes of Fox sitcom ‘Til Death (Viewers: #5, avg. #4, 5.99 million; A18-49: #3, 2.3/ 6). The CW’s cherished America’s Next Top Model capped off the hour with 5.03 million viewers (#5) and a second-place 2.4/ 7 among adults 18-49. Anytime a CW show can rise to the No. 2 spot, it’s off to the winner’s listing!
CBS moved into the top spot at 9 p.m. courtesy of Criminal Minds at a healthy 16.26 million viewers and a 4.5/11 among adults 18-49. Comparably, that built from lead-in Kid Nation by 8.97 million viewers and 114 percent in the demo. Second was a 9 p.m. telecast of ABC’s fading Pushing Daisies (Viewers: 10.18 million; A18-49: 3.8/ 9), which could be living up to its title by the end of the season, followed by Fox’s already renewed Kitchen Nightmares (Viewers: 7.03 million; A18-49: 3.3/ 8), NBC’s waiting-to-be axed Bionic Woman (Viewers: 5.99 million; A18-49: 2.2/ 5), and the CW’s struggling Gossip Girl (Viewers: 2.98 million; A18-49: 1.4/ 4). What concerns me about Pushing Daisies, in particular, was erosion in the second half hour of 2.54 million viewers (11.45 to 8.91 million) and 19 percent among adults 18-49 (4.2/10 to 3.4/ 8). Retention, meanwhile, out of the How the Grinch Stole Christmas encore was just 54 percent in total viewers and 56 percent in the demo. Unfortunately, not every show that the critics love attracts a mass appeal audience.
CSI: NY kept CBS’ dominance intact with 14.03 million viewers and a 4.1/11 among adults 18-49 at 10 p.m. But one year earlier, the final national results were considerably stronger at 16.43 million viewers and a 5.3/14 among adults 18-49. Second was ABC’s Dirty Sexy Money at a below-average 7.15 million viewers and a 2.6/ 7 in the demo, followed by NBC’s Life at 6.27 million viewers and a 2.2/ 6 in adults 18-49. Ironically, both low rated dramas have already received full season renewals.

Particularly when they love it for the wrong reasons.
Okay PD fans--let's see some desperate numbers spinning and head-in-the-sand denial. Don't disappoint us. We love our holiday entertainment.
Kudos to the folks who predicted yesterday that Shrek would get over 20 million viewers. Quite frankly I am shocked it did that well. I have a feeling we will be seeing some fresh new animated Christmas specials next year.
Too bad about Pushing Daisies and Dirty Sexy Money. At least we had week to week increases!
I never in my mind thought Shrek would do that well. I guess Robert was right after all! Also kudos to our friend the Grinch! Kid Nation has a decent ep as did Kitchen Nightmares. Nice increases for Top Model. Despite and increase for Gossip Girl, it was probably more due to a higher lead in than anything else. To bad about Til Death. Its really improved.
Because Marc just said PD looks increasingly unlikely to get a second season, and you can't very well call him a troll, since this is his forum?

It wins it's timeslot and has been picked up for the season. Nuff said, eh?
It didn't win its timeslot this week, and lots of unsuccessful shows get picked up for a whole season. Like, for example, Back to You, which is one of the reasons PD has been able to (barely) win the 8pm timeslot so far.
quote:
TV peaked with St. Elsewhere, until Joss came along anyway.
Joss peaked with the first three years of Buffy, until--well, he just peaked with the first three years of Buffy, period. At least he HAD a peak. More than Bryan Fuller can say.
