I forgot you are from Iowa. It was not intentional. Just selected a smaller, Midwest city. quote: Originally posted by mushu_jj: quote: Originally posted by TV-aholic: CSI: Des Moines
Do you realize how much of a joke that has been in the industry since the franchise started expanding? Granted, it would do well for our worthless CBS affiliate here.

We are forgetting a hugely successful castoff. JAG!!!! NBC completely wrote that show off and its ratings were in the toilet. It ended up being a huge success for CBS and led to an AI-proof spinoff, NCIS, that NBC would love to have in its stable. quote: Originally posted by mswood: quote: Originally posted by blackfury: If they are going to spend money to make money, I suggest bringing over a show or two from CBS. For some reason, it appears as though they are so fixated on the young base, they are driving away everyone overall. Young people do watch things other than gossip girl, supernatural, or reality. Also, I remember when Buffy came over from UPN. Although this was weblet to weblet, the show did fine as I recall. Unfortunately, it was not pulling down 30 million or even 10 million but it was solid by UPN or WB numbers. The challenge is that some shows are moving over to new networks when they have already peaked. So, the ratings were going to decrease anyway. Hence, you cannot blame that on it being on a different network. Out of curiousity, I wonder what an AI, NCIS, DH, or CSI would do on the CW. Could they get above 10 million viewers consistently?
Well the only show (that I am aware of switching) was the CBS show Wolflake (not sure on the title), and it suffered a large drop in viewers. As to Buffy (and Roswell) switcing from the WB to UPN, its a different comparison. At the time UPN and the WB roughly had a similar market share. So it wasn't a matter of worrying to much about a show losing a large number of stations that they air on. And Buffy was a huge signiture show, it had a tremendous amount (based onits viewer numbers) of media coverage to help give it a huge push. This typically wouldn't happen for most "cast offs" from other networks. Unless the show was already a big media darling. And even though Friday Night Lights (as a current example) is a critically loved show, it doesn't get much attention in the public's eye. And yes, some of the big name shows on the other networks could manage viewers over 10 million on the CW, but it is far and away not what most struggling shows would do. You can tell based on the huge numbers that Star Trek was able to generate with their two pilots that netlets can with a huge Brand name (and lets face it while Trek hasn't been a good weekly performer on tv, it was still a huge brand for people to check out) deliver an audience over 10 million. Then you just have to manage to keep it.

How about an international version of CSI? I'll offer Casino, Australia as the perfect location.

quote: The CW, to survive, may need to reinvent itself. This 13-21 demo programming is, for the most part, not working at all.
Let the CW become more like USA or TNT or even TBS (go all comedy).
As I said recently (quite possibly not knowing what I'm talking about), the tanking economy is going to create a small window of opportunity for CW to go for people who have developed a taste for edgy cable programming, but don't want to shell out for cable anymore. There's a limit to how edgy a broadcast network can get, obviously--and clearly CW has no chance of taking HBO's audience. But they could go for USA's, TNT's, FX's, definitely.
I agree with this. The CW needs shows people will talk about. They need to take creative chances. Unfortunately, I don't think Dawn Ostroff can or will do so. To my mind, the CW made several bad choices. The first was becoming the CW. They should have stuck with an already existing identity. Since I am white and had a teen aged daughter, I would have chosen to keep the WB logo. That was the network that had the shows with the most buzz. The second mistake was trying to appeal solely to such a narrow demographic. Even now the most popular show on the CW do not appeal to the 12-24 year old demographic. Smackdown pulls predominantly male viewers. Smallville's, Supernatural, and One Tree Hill are their highest rated scripted programs and they all pull older viewers than the targeted demo. The CW needs to get its act together, but as others have said as long as Supernatural gets its full run, I don't care.

Wow, Supernatural was excellent tonight. Talk about a reveal that even I did not see coming. I am really glad they switched the last two episodes around. Now we have to wait until April 24th to see the last four episodes of the season.
Peace!!

The CW prized demo is 18-34, not 12-24. quote: Smackdown pulls predominantly male viewers.
Sure...but they are probably in that 12-24 group that you just disparaged. quote: Smallville's, Supernatural, and One Tree Hill are their highest rated scripted programs and they all pull older viewers than the targeted demo.
Are you sure about that?

Well Obveeus, I know that Supernatural does. There are a lot of older viewers who enjoy the show....not just viewers in the 18-34 demo. Peace!!

Any real numbers? What percentage of Supernatural viewers are over 34? Same goes for Smallville, Smackdown, ANTM, the Monday comedies, etc... Are the shows the other poster listed really attracting more (percentagewise, not totalwise) mature viewers than all the other CW shows?
